If Zach Johnson goes back to Titleist and gets back in the winners circle, I'm convinced.

Of what?

That it's a better fit. Always thought Zach hasn't been the same player since switching to PXG.

Ah yes, it must be those damn clubs, lol....

Dude, it took PXG the better part of a year to build him a driver he could play (see above). He's been on staff with them coming up on three years and they still haven't been able to build him a three wood (TaylorMade) or driving iron (Titleist) that he can play. He won two majors and 10 other tournaments with Titleist and he's won jack and sh*t with PXG. Not sure what you're "lol"ing about here.

It’s not unprecedented that a manufacturer doesn’t fit a player and their play regresses. Don’t know if that happened with Zach, but it certainly could have.

My take on it is this: it is a combination. First, like Corey Pavin most notedly, going for the equipment dollar grab will almost always hurt your performance. However, if/when you've won a US Open, a Masters, or a British Open....I guess you can do whatever you like. You are most likely set financially for the rest of your life.

Secondly - and, I believe more importantly - is that Zach Johnson is one of the first "younger" major winners to experience the explosiveness of the newest wave of youngsters who have no fear of hitting the ball as hard as they do, since the equipment they have played since early youth is so much different than what most of us (Zach included) played in younger times. When he won the Masters, he laid up on almost every par 5, if I remember correctly. He played to his strengths.

PXG doesn't "fit" him, and I doubt that it ever will. Maybe if he had played Pings earlier in his career, but that wasn't the case.

Really, the only player on Tour that seems to have become "better" with PXG is Pat Perez, but I would also suggest that he actually combined the equipment change with harder work on his part to make the change work for him. And, I say that taking nothing away from Zach.

I tried to get PXG irons to work for me but no matter what I just can't hit a hollow body iron design. I went down the same road with the P790s. I don't mind the PXG Wedges and woods but I just couldn't jive with the irons. If I were out there that is one company I just wouldn't sign with simply because I don't think I'd ever be comfortable with the irons.

You see it more when someone switches club types when switching manufacturers. Payne Stewart being contractually obligated to play cast cavity Top Flites coming from Wilson Staff blades (before switching to Mizuno blades un-sponsored) is the classic example. With ZJ who knows as the PXGs aren't all that different from the AP2s he was playing.

Nobody takes pity on players begging to sign with us like we do. Period.

Equipment changes have derailed a lot of careers. Payne Stewart is one, Corey Pavin going to PRGR, Curtis Strange to Maruman, Lee Jansen was like Payne where they made him play Hogan GI irons and then he got back to winning when they let him play the Apex blades, and the biggest one was probably Nick Price. Atrigon? WTF is Atrigon?

Well the big test will be with Justin Rose as he supposedly is leaving TaylorMade for Honma as the CEO of TM is now with them. I'm sure he will win again but seriously we all know he will never repeat the same year or years he had with TM. I hated to see him leave. Just glad he never switched to PXG as it would be all down hill for him.

No, we fon’t know if Rose can’t repeat his 2017-2018 performance. Same ball, same driver, same putter, and his irons will be darn close to what he had now.

I'm surprised pxg has not come out with a set of non hollowed gss blades. I played in a tournament a few years back with a pxg rep who said their wedges are gss and the softest on the market but need to be replaced every couple months by pros or amateurs who practice like a pro. I am sure some of their tour players would switch to those gss blades.
