The new black ER5 looks awesome!

Are they all 355g?

- Josh

Stock...

355g at 35 inches - E4

370g at 34 inches - E0

But you can custom order a length, loft, lie, SW

let me know if you find an ER9 around you and what you think of it. Been keeping an eye out myself but haven't run across one

Golf Galaxy in Pittsburgh had at least one. It works, at least to the point of rolling the ball dead straight every time. The face is very resistant to rotation. I found it interesting enough to consider but couldn't get over three things. First, for me, moving to a higher moi putter in the ER5, I reduced my tendency to hit lag putts way past the hole, but in doing so increased my chances of leaving very long putts short. It took some work but I finally think I have some feel for distance with the ER5 and I think that's about as far as I want to go with MOI; with the ER9 I found myself having to consciously put extra effort into anything over 10 feet or so, even indoors on the mat. Second, the sheer size of the ER9 and its squareness is off-putting to me. It's like the Borg ship on a stick. Third, it's kinda pricey. If it fit my eye and how I see breaks I'd probably dig for the extra couple of bills and learn to hit long putts with it. But for me, the ER5 is a better balance.

Loving myER5.

Looks: A+

Quality of milling: A+

Feel: A

The fact that I used my Scotty blade for the last 8 years and now I’m using a high MOI mallet has been a big change for me. Still getting used to it for sure, such a big change. That said it’s so much easier to line up, that alone makes it worth it.

Added bonus: my initials (ER) are already part of the putter!

Been rolling some at work. I like them! Great looking/feeling putters. Waiting for the new ones to give them some more testing. ;)

...the next time you see me fooling around with the ER9 at the Pittsburgh Golf Galaxy, be sure to say hi. You'll know it's me because I can't imagine too many other people picking that thing up. It's hideous. But fun! And it works.

I'm not one to harp on putter looks by any means, but the ER9 is HUGE in person. I don't think the pictures online do it justice.

My ER5 is giving me the same struggle right now. It's just so damn different from my Scotty that I think it's going to take some time before i get the feel down.

Check swingweight -- if it's 35 inches, it's E4 - lightening up the swingweight to D7-D8, according to Guerin, will help with distqnce control.

How would I change the SW?

I assume 35 inches is your optimal length, but if not cutting off a bit of the length is easy if you can remove the grip. As an experiment, try gripping down on the grip and see if that helps lighten the head.

Another way is with a Tour Lock or Balance Certified Counterweight through the grip. Or see if Evnroll has a heavier weight grip than the 117g 1.2 stock grip.

I'd call Evenroll and ask how they do it -- they once brought it down with counterweights in the grip - you want to bring it down about 7 sw points - they should have enough experience to tell you how much weight.

My ER5 is giving me the same struggle right now. It's just so damn different from my Scotty that I think it's going to take some time before i get the feel down.

Once you reset I think it will be fine. I have much better distance control with the ER5 than I ever did with the variety of blades that preceded it. With the higher MOI it feels like there is less face rotation during the stroke and less release through impact. Which means fewer 10-footers going off in my hands and leaving me four feet coming back, but also means the little extra pop that I counted on to get long putts back to the hole with a blade is missing. It's a very worthwhile tradeoff for me. You can putt really far with an ER5, you just have to mean to do it. : )

Can’t wait to get some more practice with it. I agree with you, just need to reset.

  • 1 year later...

I had a Scotty Cameron Newport 2 Pro Platinum that got lost and I replaced it with an ER2. I've had rounds with the ER2 recently where I made more putts in one round than I did the entire time I owned the SC. I loved that putter and wish I still had it but the ER2 is better for my game hands down. Perhaps the only exception would be on lightning fast greens which I recently struggled with using the ER2.
