Mallet putters without alignment aid?

heatedwire

Recommended Posts

So i've always putted with a blade. Currently I use a Lajosi Sensor and am having a pretty good couple of years putting, however i'd like to try using a mallet as an experiment.

Much to my surprise, I'm struggling to find options in the #7 style (think this would suit my eye the most) or just about any other style from TM, Odyssey, Cleveland etc for mallets without any alignment lines or dots.

While I can see why they might help, I can't be the only one out there that prefers not to have any 'aid' when I look down at address?

Does anyone know of some mallets that are 'blank'?

While the Spider Tour’s success has mainly been attributed to the addition of the slant neck, I think the real reason it ended up being so effective for a lot of people was it forced them to aim perpendicularly with the face rather than linearly with a sight line. I never realized how off my aim was with sight lines until recently.

I reallly, really wish Odyssey would make some naked 7s and other fang shapes. The jailbird is close but still has those 3 dots in a line milled in.

Have a Jailbreak Mini - could have a putter refinisher like BOS take out the sight dots - fill them in and paint to match.

I'm asking Evnroll not to paint the sightline.

Evnroll was probably my favourite putter but I couldn't handle the sight line. Have they responded to you? I'd purchase another one in a heartbeat - specially now they come in black!

They don't all come in black - the ER5; the others in black are tour use only from what I've read/seen. I asked for a tour black version of the ER8 - no bueno.

  • 1 year later...

Bringing up an old thread, rather than starting a new. I am on the lookout for flow/slant neck mallets without siteline or dot (naked). Spider Tour seems like the only MOI toe hang mallet that is readily available without siteline (naked). Is this true...anyone else have recommendations off the rack/ebay. I do see a toulon Atlanta here and there custom without alignment. Would love other suggestions. Anyone have anything...also been looking for a Piretti Matera naked, but no luck on the secondary.

Spider tour is about it. Everything, literally everything else out has a sight line. Custom stuff will be your real only other shot...

Fyi tho, if you like 2ball fang or the Marxman fang with the slant neck then I can put you in touch with a guy who can 3d print a custom alignment piece that can replace what comes from the factory.

I did 2 custom alignment aids...

HZ5SKOI9JZ2A.jpgShould be less than $70 to get a custom one. You can get just a solid piece with no lines similar to the one on the putter in the pic above, or really anything. The only caveat is that the skeleton of the 2ball fang head has a track that runs from front to center that will have to be covered. You can see that in the putter pic.

If you can get your hands on a Spider X, you can do what I did. I had my club maker fill in the sight line, then I had the head specially painted. The otter body flat black and the alignment body matte black. In my opinion It turned out awesome and worth the investment. Maybe this would work for you too? Personally I don't any sight line or dot. Yet this still give alignment aid.

I've never been a mallet guy and Im giving this a good try.
