In a closest to the pin competition, I won a football signed by the entire team of the 1988-89 Super Bowl champion SF 49ers. Gave it to my Dad who’d been a fan since the 1940’s and immediately gained Favored Child status.

Fairway: Callaway Epic Max - 15*, 21*, 25*

Hybrid:  Ping G425 30*
Irons: TaylorMade Stealth 7-AW

Cashed some checks in section events, those were always nice as assistant pro pay was about $450 a week. Have won clubhouse passes to the phoenix Open, a titleist bag, rounds of golf, etc.

Worst prize I ever won was a forged gift certificate to a restaurant that they wouldn’t/couldn’t honor.

In 1986-7 I won a Golf Illustrated contest. Readers could write in an describe why they need Hank Haney's help. I won a week's worth of lessons with Hank at PGA West, all expenses paid for two people. It was an amazing, inspiring, humbling, and enlightening week.

After 20 years of reflection, I wrote a summary that appeared in Golf Digest in 2007:

What I expected from Hank were swing-plane lectures and one-footed drills. What I received was an hour a day with a gracious Hank Haney who patiently and brilliantly began to anesthetize my flailing mess of a swing with logic, examples, praise, and joy. By improving my understanding of the golf swing, I soon began to see something brand new: hope! Following each inspiring lesson, I'd gleefully work for hours practicing what he preached. Then, I took it to the course. Before I left PGA West, I shot 84, 10 strokes lower than my best score of the previous two years. Also, I appeared on the magazine cover with Hank in 1987, and my diary of the experience was published in Golf Illustrated. My best prize of all is one that all high-handicappers can easily receive from their PGA pro: a lesson in how fulfilling it can be to understand better golf, then play it.

I golfed in an outing over the summer that was sponsored by a craft brewery I won the raffle for a cooler full of beer (I think it was 100 cans). They did the raffle before the dinner and I just ended up handing out beers to everyone cause there was no way I could take the many home. The golf course was pissed because no one bought beer from the clubhouse.

I was one of the people chosen for the #TwistFaceExperience. It was the best golf experience I have ever had. Great friendships were made. I got a hands on fitting from one of the best (he's in one of the most recent Taylormade IG videos). The people at Taylormade were gracious and full of information and stories. Thank you GolfWRX!

I won 1st prize in a charity raffle a few years ago, which was a full set of TM clubs... less than a week after I bought a brand new set of TM clubs. I exchanged them for pro shop credit and blew it on golf shoes and Galvin waterproofs.

Summer 1995. Went to a junior golf camp at UCF for a week with about 30 others. At the end of the week I was presented with the top prize for the camp, a new cobra metal wood. I wasn't the best player at the camp. I was probably about the 5th best, actually. I was a weak 17 yr old who could get about 255 total out of my steel shafted big Bertha warbird. I could come close to shooting par but was usually low to mid 70s. A few guys there could break par easily.

But I wanted to practice. I wanted to play. I wanted to get better. Many of the others were there for a vacation. I was there to get better. I wanted to be on the course or the range at the butt crack of dawn and not leave until dark.

Guess the coaches picked up on that. My enthusiasm is just as unhealthy today as it was back then...lol

The nicest prize I ever won was the prize that meant the most. I was invited to a very pricey outing to support breast cancer. The guy who paid for the foursome didn't ask for money, just that we buy raffle tickets. The raffle tickets were $125 / one, $300 / four. I looked at the table of prizes and couldn't find anything I even wanted until I saw the latest apple watch. My wife had been wanting one for a few years, never pulled the trigger. So i bought one ticket in hopes of winning that one prize and wouldn't you know it I won the watch. I was pumped, left the outing as soon as i could to give it to her and she loved it.
