What clubs do you generally chip/pitch with green side?

58 was my default for a lot of years.

But still played chips lower than a lot of people. I like hooding the face and playing off the back foot.

Vary it more now between 50, 54, 58.

Been enjoying using my 50 for chipping since going to the SM7. My old Mizuno 50 felt heavy and clumsy on short-ish chips so rarely used it.

And you'll never catch me chipping with something other than a wedge on any sort of routine shot. I feel the ball comes off the face too quick and it feels clumsy. That then makes it harder to commit to the shot, makes it easy to decelerate on the shot.

I use 60 mostly both back in my stance and forward. if its uphill and/or into the grain i'll use my 56 or 50 depending on length. If I really want to get it rolling i'll use 3 wood with a putter action at times. Every once in a while i'll use pw through 7 iron for really long shots where I need a lot of roll but that is pretty rare.

Mostly, my 58* PM Grind. I'm of the school where learn to hit one wedge (greenside) well to be more consistent, works for me.

Way back when when I started playing I had awfully good touch. Loved to hit low running chips with clubs down to a four iron. Sadly that touch just isn’t there any more. Now, if I’m hitting any type of bump and run shot it’s going to be with a seven or a nine iron depending on how much carry and run is needed.

Anything needing loft I really like my 54*, but with our small, elevated greens the 58* probably gets used as much if not more.

So I got this buddy who simply can't chip to save his butt. Drives the ball a mile, often ends up on or near the fringe of the green, then stubs any wedge, slightly better with a hybrid, even a cheater chipper wasn't much better. So, he came up w/the idea of cutting down an old Adams bladed 3 iron to 7 iron length, dropped a jumbo grip on it, & bingo, his chipping from said areas actually became pretty decent. Mostly improvement in those medium to long chip and runners. Guess whatever works, but I still stick to my old 58 degree for most everything.

I generally carry my 50*, 58* and putter around the green side, but use the 50* the most.

Used to use my lob wedge (58 deg) a lot, then learned that realistically it's a lot easier to get the job done with my sand wedge (54 deg) or less. Actually thinking of ditching my lob wedge given how infrequently I use it at this point...it's probably come out of the bag 3 times in the last few months.

IMO there is no better feeling than pulling out an 8 iron, putting the ball back in your stance, and bump n running the ball up to the cup for a tap in...people look at you like you just pulled off a GD magic trick

Anything from 7 iron to LW. I really like my 46, 50 and 55 Edel wedges. New set of irons coming so we will see how that affects my decisions. I play a very hilly course so I am usually having to pitch it with some height and get it stopping quickly or it will run out past the hole fast.

Bump and run works but not well at my course.

I've never chipped with a driver, but I've given the rest of the clubs a go at it. My first thought is always my SW or 8-iron, then I adjust depending on all the factors. 90% of the time I stick with one of the two, otherwise I may switch to a LW or maybe another iron...

I play with a guy that chips with a driver, no I’m not kidding either. He’s good at it too!

I prefer to use "lower" lofted clubs whenever possible to get a bump and release....instead of a bounce bounce check. So I'll go all the way down to a low 30's loft club, if only a few feet of carry is necessary with a lot of green afterwards

If an average golfer wanted the easiest way to take strokes off their game this is exactly what they would do, but they won't, they will stick to chunking 56 or 60 degree wedges and wasting shots around the green. I never understood the mindset of the average golfer... they could improve their game by doing nothing else than changing their approach to their game between their ears. I guess I always was more proud of shooting a low score than doing what everyone else was doing....

Or you could practice a lot and still use a higher lofted club if you wanted. Agree that bump and run is great when available but if you play tough courses you don’t often get the chance for the bump and run. I use my 60* for almost anything around the green, I should probably practice the lower porter bump and run more but I learned how to make my 60* run out and it gives me a lot of confidence using the same club. To each his own, I’m not a traditionalist but chipping and getting up and down is one of my strengths.

I will say if I went traditional it probably would have taken less practice for some things but I learned a lot of good specialty shots that most struggle to pull off
