Stack & Tilt’s Grid

I really like the idea of Stack & Tilts grid however I find it extremely difficult to trace it (on the follow through). Anyone know of good resource to learn the grid better or is an instructor in person best?

Yes that’s the concept. The part I struggle with is going from impact the the lines your supposed to follow on the follow through.

One of the guys in our group is about a year into Golftech and it sure seems they're teaching a S&T move. His left shoulder goes down and his weight starts left and goes further left.

 

Not that I bought the videos mind you.

My understanding is that stack and tilt had a lot of things right, particularly with regards to iron play. The place it started falling apart was when they argued against weight shift data in the driver swing.

Dahlquist used to teach S&T after he left Mac. When asked why he left S&T, he said it was because B&P had a different understanding of spin loft. We didn't get into the details. The national director of instruction for Golftek is Nick Clearwater, a former S&T guy who actually put some videos out with Dana.

Can we stick to talking about the grid. I didn’t create the thread to debate stack and tilts merit. 90% of these comments have nothing to do with the grid

Hard to say without seeing your swing but I can imagine the hips don't work properly. They need to be forward enough, open enough and slanted enough to allow for right tilt in the downswing. Some of the causes I see: right leg pushing up too much (slowing rotation, keeping right hip high, limit hips slide), thrusting the hips too soon (to do the "hips tucked", but too soon), upper body outracing lower body... I find that significantly open feet allow for the leg extensions to drive better the hips (associated with the feel to keep the butt sliding along an imaginary wall behind you in transition).

Nice for the math to use a golf ball with a 1.68 inch diameter. Interesting that no matter the club, loft, or length, any where between dead center (a magical place where your "shoulder" dictates is the center of your swing) and 5.06"s forward and 10.12" back in your stance will render the shape you want.

 

It's all very logical, but it assumes your AoA and face angle doesn't change despite the fact you're hitting a ball in a 16 inch zone. Not realistic IMO.

I was a 16 cap then learned S&T, now I’m a 5 with my home club being a US Open Sectional Qualifying site. I don’t practice, don’t have the time to really warm up before I play, and I have time for one round a week. I’m not sure why everyone craps on S&T and really don’t care, my guess is that they lack a full understanding of it and don’t care enough to learn something new. If you legitimately want to get better with your ball striking it’s worth the effort to learn. I do agree with the driver arguement, it is better for me to keep my weight balanced on the backswing with the driver.

 

Learn the grid, the video from the link posted above will get you in the ballpark, then learn the circles and arcs.
