For a company that started with "Big Bertha", we should not be surprised at any future product name.

The name came from a WWI Howitzer named the Big Bertha

Who is getting paid the big bucks to dream up names like these? Flash? Unbelievable.

I mean given the desire to attract younger people into the game of golf the last thing you would want to use is a hyper-relevant term like "flash".

Thank god you guys aren't running marketing...

I'll bite. What are you talking about? What is "Flash" hyper-relevant to (and with respect to young people)?

It's possible in not the target demographic, but I'm under 35 and I never considered the Epic based on name alone. Epic Flash I'd just laugh at if somebody tried to sell me one.

I was actually in the "Think Tank" that decided on the name, and have to admit I'm not thrilled about it, but goodness, you should've seen some of the stinkers that almost made it. Epic Reboot, Epic Rogue, Rogue Epic, Epic DBD 2019 With Even Better Jailbreaking Technology, and my least favorite, Epic "C". (Hope that doesn't cue Bobcat).

I honestly don't understand why Epic Flash is bad. I don't mind the name at all

I thought Rogue was way worse. Literally every product category has something called Rogue

I could drive a Nissan Rogue while playing a Callaway Rogue with an aldila Rogue.

Isn't the Epic's successor the Rogue? So the Epic Flash would be the Rogue's successor?

rogue was the successor to the xr16

Cripes hard to keep this stuff straight. Thank you sir!

That is wrong. Rogue was a addition to the wood line not the replacement for XR16. Most likely the NEW XR Speed will be the value line this year.

So you were being sarcastic? Or you think that it makes sense to tie a golf club's name to that of a current (yet rehashed) TV show and character?

People have picked clubs for dumber reasons. The show is successful and not going away anytime soon. Despite DC Superhero movies typically being trash, the Flash was one of the brighter spots of the movie so you can plan on seeing more of him on the big and small screen.

The only thing sabotaging Callaway is that Red/Yellow is typically used by Taylormade which is probably why they used green instead (plus people seemed to like that shade on the Epic, so why reinvent the wheel totally).

Name is incoherent and sounds silly. What do Epic and Flash have to do with each other? Just stick 2 exciting words together and call it a day? Big swing and a miss.

Now I'm trying to decide which is a bigger turd, PGA Tour's 'Live under par" or this....

So, you think this driver will be a flash in the pan?

I don't have much of a beef with this name. Now, "Rocketballz"? Just terrible (and I still have 2 of 3 RBZ clubs in the bag). For me, that name was especially stupid because it had "ball" in the name of the things that HIT the ball. Along with sounding childish, it didn't make any sense to me.

And when these manufacturers say that something has "jailbreak technology," or "hammerhead technology," it's ridiculous. Those things are brand names, not technologies. If you want to put a sticker on your car showing that it has a V8, or dual overhead cam, or a hybrid engine, then go nuts -- because those are actual technologies. "Variable face thickness" describes an actual condition or technology. "Jailbreak" isn't a technology.

I am sure they're just trying to elicit an association to something good and relevant with this name. If you think the ball will come off the face with a flash, then that's good. If you think this driver's useful life will flash before your eyes, then that's not so good.

So, you would completely write off what has been praised by so many just because you don't like the 4 letter name on the bottom of the club? Seems a bit extreme.

Yes. Look at address and colour would also contribute heavily.

To be honest, the vast majority of drivers in any given year perform more or less the same when properly fit and I tend to not alter my bag for years (played my second iron set for over a decade), so it's important to me to have something I really like in there because I'm going to be staring at it a long time.
