Easier to hit "Player's Irons"?

Looking for some suggestions here, I'm a 6.7 cap whose strengths are driving the ball and short game. If I had even a semi-reliable iron game, I think I'd be able to threaten par from time to time. I hate offset, so I've mostly played "player's CB's", and while I love how my current Z745's look and feel, I bang them out of the middle of the face too often to get the best out of them. I don't mind a thicker topline, or a clunkier sole, but offset is a big turn-off. I've hit the Rogue Pros and I like the way they look, and coming from Srixon, I'm very interested in trying a 5 series iron. Any others I should test/consider? I know that improving my iron swing is the real key to improvement, but I'd like to stand on a par 3 tee box and have a little bit of confidence that if I toe-jam one, or miss it a little, I might be able to still get away with a GIR.

14HC, got fit into P760's. Easy to hit, pretty forgiving, look great. My main issue is more getting my face angle and path to marry up every single time, not so much striking near the center. I'm also not good off above feet lies, or down hill lies... So those lies add strokes to my score for sure.

I think you'd probably be fine in the 760's, Z785s or the 919F's. To me, the 760's were the best.

Z765 is what I upgraded to from J33 CBs, I like them better than the Srixon 5 series and that V sole works, very forgiving.

This might be obvious but AP2s are a perfect combo of player iron with some help.

I'm about a 10, got fit into AP2's up through the 6 iron then AP3 for the 4 and 5 iron. Best of both worlds.

FWIW I game a 545/745 combo set and don't find the 545s noticeably more forgiving. I'd rather they were all 745s.

Titleist T-MB.

Player look and blade turf interaction. They cut through the turf just like the MBs. Turf interaction and lack of offset is what I really want in an iron.

T-MBs have nice vertical and lateral forgiveness off of the sweetspot. Love to go high and straight. X-100s in the short irons bring ball flight down nicely and I can still spin the 9/PW back a few feet with a urethane ball. Zero issue holding greens even with longer irons.

Only downside (for some players) is they take a lot of effort to put significant "side sauce" on them. TBH, thats not a down side to me at all. My stock miss with AP2 like clubs was an over cooked draw, causing me to miss greens.

So sure, with the T-MB its hard to really bend them around a significant obstacle, but these are so point and shoot its crazy. Really improved my game, and I can still get the draw/fade if I really need it.

Down to about 9HCP since the switch from Wilson V4s (was a 13HCP), which are admittedly very forgiving, but will bend the ball too much when I close the face down early.

And yes. The drop in HCP was also due to improving my FIR, but the iron swap was the biggest factor.

I went through a couple of sets of irons this year which included 765s, flyz+, and finally settled on the.....Bridgestone J15 DPF. There are some great reviews of these irons. The 765s are forgiving but the j15s are even more so. They have a very thin top line, are workable, and are lonnnng. I'm still working out the yardage and seem to get a flyer from time to time but my gir has gone up substantially. They feel awesome out of the center but I would give the srixons the nod in the feel department by the smallest of hairs. By biggest complaint is that the blade length is pretty long and severe mishits have a hollow type of feel. Great clubs that can be had for a little over $200

Nothing can match the J15 CB in feel, workability, and forgiveness. Benched Mizzy, Blew away AP2, hurdled X-Forged, and rivals Muira feel.

They are untouchable.

By out of the middle, do you mean you are getting heel and toe strikes? Or just toe strikes? Or, ar you getting high face hits. Not sure what you mean.

If your main problem is toe strikes, you might need a slightly longer shaft. In my old irons (38" 5i shaft), I had to line up a half inch toward hosel to get a center strike. My new clubs have a 38 1/4" 5i, and I'm getting center strikes with center face alignment. Some fitters had suggested slightly longer shafts at demo-day rough fittings.

I saw the same thing. I think he meant "outside", not (just) "out".

OP, you can't find the middle of the face ? Offset shmoffset. Go ahead and go to the dark side and go full GI.

I think you’re already in the best set for you. I changed from 545 to 765/965. The difference isn’t that much. The 765 are very forgiving for the type of club they are and I suspect it’s due to the length of the blade.

If the VT sole works for you (and I get that it’s not for everyone) then I would be wary of change

He has already got z745 which are just as forgiving as most of peoples recommendations so far......a 900f, 760, Ap2 is pretty much what he has already

Since your not getting consistent strikes Either more forgiving club or work on your iron game....simple

Another option if you practice and hit balls is get set of MB (doesnt matter, cheap ones)to hit on range to work on strike.....if you dont really do that than nevermind
