Thank you all for the well wishes and advice/sharing. It is much appreciated.

I chuckled at Bill mentioning a vacation. A quite normal thing for a newly retired couple to take.

On one of those "I forgot my password" questions is "what is your favorite vacation spot?"

Cobi and I always give the same four letter answer.......................HOME..........LOL.

In the never say never category..............perhaps some day the travel bug will come along. For

now we are content to vacation here at home. We have owned this particular house for almost

15 years and I would guess I have been here at home for maybe 1-2 years total if I had the want

to add it all up (I don't want and don't need to know). I feel like I'm on vacation now. I have driven

somewhere around 4 million miles in the past 23 years. That is a staggering number and perhaps

best illustrates why I don't currently have the travel bug. :)

I understand. Mrs. scotee sends her greetings and congrats :)

In case I missed the boat which is getting more frequent lately---- Who is that a pic of? Rad and Cobi or Mr and Mrs Scotee?

Rad BTW in the post you referenced the 56 Pings--- I hit them one time but discovered a great set. 2 years ago Bear brought back a set of Forged KZG cavity backs with really stiff shafted graphite tour shafts. He had also bought a set of Swing Science 400 graphite shafts for me to install for him. I blue printed those irons. He never liked them ( he is more quirky than I am) and threw them in his stash. Since he paid so much for the PXGs he has now he has sworn off club hoeing. He gave me the 56s and the KZGs. Those KZGs hit so good i have not messed with the Pings but one time. The light weight graphite shafts are easy on my back and evidently I am generating more speed because they are stock lofted based off a 47* PW and I am back hitting a 8 iron 145 yards again without pushing the issue. The KZG lofts are the same as I set up my Macgregors. Played a course I had not played in years and was -1 when the torrential downpours came after 13 holes. Should have been better than that but those greens were treacherous and I missed what I consider 3 good birdie putts. But I hit all the fairways with the driver which is not that hard as wide as they are and had 12 GIRs which is outstanding for me. The only green I missed was when I tried to flight down a PW and hit it 125 instead of 115 and ended up in a bunker over the green but did get it up and down. Bear swears I have those lofts jacked. All I know is I hit them good and my back does not hurt.> I did not have a Gap wedge with me because for me SOP I only carry 2 wedges. But I did go into my stash and found a Vokey 54 with a 75 gram graphite that I bent back to 52 and did some sole filing on. Will not get to try this weekend because it is cold as heck now and bad weather is moving in

Wow Stu, 12 of 13 greens. That's a game I'm not familiar with.....oh and -1 through 13....another

game I'm not familiar with. You still got it, my friend. If those KZGs are treating you that well then

you need to stop hoing clubs and stick with those......though I get a ho still gotta ho, lol.

"you may be driving a truck

but ,it remains to be seen if you'll ever be a truck driver.

And the odds ain't looking to be in your favor"

That old gravely voice ,with the Kentucky/Tennessee accent never got too many comments from the young kids out there.

When I was young,The guys out there knew that if you ever had a problem, you could count on the Drivers to help.

OK cool--- BTW a certain red and black afghan is really nice in my new heated back massaging recliner with this cooler weather. I do not know if I told you guys but my butt literally fell through our old love seat the Saturday before Thanksgiving. No joke the springs collapsed and my butt hit the floor. Ended up going that Monday and buying what is called a Big Boy Recliner. Got a super deal since I paid cash. Also bought the wife the one she wanted. My wife sorta got on my butt so to speak. She told me she was getting the recliner she wanted and needed to get off my cheap SOB thing and get the one I wanted. She told me we have the money. So I bought 2 recliners---- I now think those 2 recliners are worth more than my house is now. But I am glad I spent the money my back feels so much better.

Yeah I hit the gold mine with the KZGs and the modified Cally PM grind wedge I built. Told Bear at the end of the round "Now you see how good I USED to be" Now I have to get used to carrying 3 wedges since I do need a gap wedge now with those irons. Talked to former WRXer Eilidon the other night. He is a former PGA Tour player and about 3 years older than I. He has also went the lighter shaft mode putting a set of 95 gram Nippon Steel shafts in a set of Eye 2s. He told me he knew I was not the machine type of guy but he would bet the farm I had picked up swing speed in the neighborhood of 5 mph or so with those shafts

You nailed it "Too many Cowboys and not enough drivers" Most drivers today do not even run a CB radio. But most of us scrap haulers, dump truck drivers and stick haulers do but then again most of us are old schoolers too. Most of us regulars on the routes we run still stick together no matter what we haul or who we work for.

Yee ha, I like these truck stories. My wife dropped our new Ford off at the dealer a couple of weeks ago to get her remote starter looked at, so a retired courtesy car driver named Sonny picked me up at work to give me a ride home since it wasn't done yet. I told him I was retiring soon, so then he went on to tell me about his life story on the road as a trucker. Heck of a nice guy, I told him it was fascinating. We sat out in my driveway for a while as I asked him to tell me some more about some of his stories. He finally had to get back, but it was fun listening to them. I could see a gleam in his eye just talking about some of the stuff he did, and never once had an accident, even in snow etc. Said he didn't mind snow, but high winds he wouldn't mess with. Also said the same things you guys are sayin', too many cowboy drivers nowadays, driver wannabes who don't know their trucks, or the road, or pretty much common road do's and don'ts...

Not being critical...not belittling......but I read a thread...was very interesting. Guy was talking about the rules for caddies talking to players in youth tournaments....And the ones where parents cant talk to the players. And he and a few others were very hyped on the subject, and wanted to

report the parents to the rules official...and he did.....and the official spoke to the parent...and I am thinking, yeah..make everyone follow the

same rules...And then, they are talking about how he hopes things are better in two years...when his kid gets to the 9 year old bracket.

9 year old. means the kid is now 7/8 years old. I really wanted to post " They're kids for goodness sake...leave them alone" But I didn't.

I just cant believe how some folks are so into wanting kids just past toddler age to provide them with an ego boost. And, to me that is all

they are doing. Boosting their own ego by not allowing their kids to be kids. Most of the kids will never want to pick up a club by the time they are teens.

Enough rant...my granddaughter called...we are golfing tomorrow......groan.....maybe the range with enclosed stalls and heater blowers ! But

probably not. Probably 9 holes....i hope....why wont she let gramps be gramps and sit in the recliner !

Bill that is so great that your granddaughter wants to play golf with you. I look forward to when some of my grand kids get old enough to play. Speaking of cold. It was 20 deg when I got up. I went up to the course at 11:00 just to see how really frozen it was and if anyone was hanging out at the club house. It was cold but nice and sunny so most of the frost came off by noon and they let us play. I have an ice pick in my cart that I needed today to get the tees in the ground. We played the front 9 and just 4 holes on the back. It was up to 33 when we finished. I wouldn't do it without the covered cart and propane heater :)

Getting a little concerned about the Judge myself. Last I looked he had not logged on

since 11-14. No hint of a WRX hiatus that I discerned in recent posts though he has

said at times he has felt like taking a break. I'm hoping everything is OK and he's just

taking a break.

The general area he lives in may be getting a big snow and ice storm ( well big for these parts) over the weekend. More than likely he is taking a break. If anyone noticed I took a small hiatus because you guys were talking football and I do not keep up with it. I read but did not contribute because I did not know enough to comment. Which is ok by me so carry on. But usually if you do not hear from me here I will be over in the Classic Golf and Golfers section along with Fellaheem.

Happy belated birthday to Mrs. Sco!

Got home yesterday. Woke up this morning to my first day of retirement.....the air feels

different; better; my feet feel more firmly planted on the ground, yet light. A new and

welcome dichotomy.

Laid there in bed for short spell before getting up; just soaking it all in.....then up, coffee

made and figuring out what to do first. I am a creature of habit and like order in life. I have

a need to feel organized; a base from which a whimsical spontaneity can grow forth, if

that makes sense. Ha, I guess I said that already in the first paragraph; grounded light

feet.

Those of you that are and have been retired for awhile, have told us, no worries, there

will be lots of things to do...........and not enough hours in the day. I have not doubted that

at all. I have lots of things to do; perhaps too many, lol.

The difference I am feeling right now is that the urgency is gone. No doubt things will come

up that demand urgency from time to time. Apart from those, I am not feeling in a hurry to

do anything. This is different for me as I have always had limited time and had to get things

done quickly; things only made urgent by limited time and not in and of themselves.

It's too cold out right now, for me, to play any golf. Highs in high 40s, low 50s....lows in the

30s and a few nights, 20s. I don't enjoy golf in those temps; BTDT and a few holes in, wishing

I had not come. I don't play unless the temp is above 50 for most of the day. We get plenty of

days during the winter that meet my criteria. I'll wait for those "warm spells" to venture out

on the course.

As it is, I have a lot to catch up on at home; most of it outdoors. Once I get those things done

and am feeling more organized, I will turn my attention to golf.......and a few other of life's

luxuries. Weird as it may sound, I play better when I'm feeling organized at home. Golf has

never been an "escape" for me. Whatever my mindset is, I bring that mindset to the course

and it will affect how I play, good or bad. It's just the way I'm wired I suppose.

I wasn't an early riser on the road (unless I had to)but here I am, drinking my morning coffee,

up early and typing a post. Cobi is still sleeping.

Congrats Rad love it when a fellow driver gets to retire. Hopefully I have a little more than 10 months. You know like I do what kind of "no driving 90 day wonder drivers we have out there now" Everytime I hear of one of the old schooler drivers retiring I think of the old George Jones song "Whose Gonna Fill Their Shoes?" To be honest I will probably never fully retire from driving unless I can not pass a physical. I get a kick out of driving a truck like I do it now. Done talked about it with the owner I may cut back to 3 days a week. Really it depends on what happens on my Wife's retirement. She turned 62 Wednesday and she has already put in her papers with the Union. Have been having some equipment issues lately none with the "Big Dog" Mack that 600 keeps kicking. Have had some trailer issues with my dump trailers. Minor BS but still maddening especially dealing with our so called mechanic and our tire vendor. Had a light issue yesterday with my first out trailer. Typical redneck fashion redneck engineered the running and tail lights to get it home. Second out trailer had a tire issue as in one of those idiots with the tire company had plugged a hole in the SIDEWALL for Pete's sake and on the inside to boot. I have never had a tire go flat on that trailer period. 10 miles up the road BOOM! air got between the casing and the cap and blew the cap. Found out what happened. The tire company blamed it on a guy they fired a month ago. Got to the Steel Mill late and called in yes my other trailer was fixed and loaded. Started out this AM and on the pre trip no lights and then it kicked the breakers. My boss came in and I showed him. The scalemaster that handles the loads etc said she ASSUMED my trailer was fixed and the mechanic ASSUMED the other mechanic had fixed my lights. They also had 3 guys from the tire company checking equipment on the yard for tire plugs etc. One of them said something to me and I told him there were no plugs in my tractor tires. Besides no one touches my truck especially my tires when I am not around . The owner of the company told them that. I told my boss that crap that was going on was going to make me retire early. The owner told me to go home and cool off and BTW he would pay me for 8 hours today. The owner told the tire guys he bet them $100 I had been under both of my dump trailers and really closely examined them since the plugged sidewall had been found. Yep I am the only one who drives that Mack and the only one that pulls those 2 dump trailers

I have a horror story about plugged tyres. Had s flat when we were out and about called into a tyre only shop to have it fixed, waited around for ages and he came out told us it was not an easy fix but it was done and back on the car, no idea why he did not use the spare. Went about one mile, we were doing the speed limit and the newly fixed tyre blew out, we hit the pavement and destroyed the tyre. Put on the spare and went back to question them, apparently they put in a plug and when checked it still leaked so he put in another plug beside the plug which still leaked eventually he told us it took six plugs side by side to stop the leak, which in any country is highly illegal as only one plug can be used per leak, or so we understood. Putting on my best pissed off voice we said he would be reported, gave us a new, tyre and promised never to do it again, we told him we would be checking up which was easy as it was a small rural area where everyone knew each other.

Watched a small part of a kids tournament two years ago these were up to 14 years old, if my son had spoken to me as these were speaking to their caddies and parents I would have given them a good thrashing, they were disrespectful to everyone to the extreem, shouting using foul language and generally being an a**. The part the really got to me is no one pulled them up, the referees were even keeping out of their way. Having watched the way many club golfers react during a competition it’s no wonder they think it is OK.

Me too. Not that a WRX break isn't necessary on occasion. Perhaps should post a swing thing comment. That's brought him out of his lair in the past.

"Was reading about the necessity of keeping the right elbow tucked close to one's side. But that feels really tight and constricting. Doesn't seem like I can make a good turn on the ball being all tied up. Am I better off simply letting it go where it wants to naturally? Even if it that means the perfect "V" is not maintained all the way through the swing?"

Or.

"In the on-going effort to improve my pitiful chipping, contemplating wrapping my wrists with duct tape before I attempt to execute a chip shot. To eliminate my propensity for wristiness in said shot. Potential benefit or boolah?"

I don't get this either. For the life of me I don't understand why parents don't let "kids be kids", especially at such a young age. Furnish the opportunity, supply any appropriate tools, then stand back and allow them to discover. Then offer amble praise on the trying, regardless of outcomes.

Based on your past commentary about golfing with your granddaughter, you're committed. Can't say "no" now. Gotta suck it up, get out of the recliner, bundle up, and head out. Maybe they have some comfy benches (that can be rearranged directly under the heaters) for you to sit on. Have fun!!!

Speaking of grandkids. Finally found a "real" putter for the young lad in our household. Anser style. No more of the plastic one he's been wielding around the house. Was going to be a Christmas present, but "Da" (an amalgamation of Doug, my name, and Pa) decided to give it to him early. When it was just he and I around. And only to be utilized in the basement, where any damage to stuff can be minimized. Here he's practicing his LHL, anchored putting stroke. (My boy, OGA already.) Gramps only offered some basic instruction about trying to get his feet in proper alignment to the cup. He did discover that it was easier to make a putt when it was closer to the practice cup thingy. Smart kid. Make more putts by being closer to the hole to start.

The basement looks like a cluttered disaster area mostly because it is.

done quickly; things only made urgent by limited time and not in and of themselves.

Yep that many plugs spread the steel belted radial and literally tore the belts. If the hole is that big tread side it needs to be taken off and a 'boot" installed from the inside. On commercial truck tires if they put the vulcanized boot in they by law have to install a blue certifying tag near the spot. Also on commercial truck tires they have to x ray them at the cap shop to certify them safe for operation

Cool man just cool--- Got him started off right with an Anser style---- And that putting cup I have not seen one like that in ages----- We will have to have him pick his OGA number of course no age restrictions either in the OGA---- And hey he is left hand low already hmmmmm

Wriggs-- When I saw you mentioned about playing I thought why not? it was not supposed to rain until noon here. I said well maybe hit balls at the range or they will let me walk the back with my minimum bag. Went outside CRAP!!!! the rain has already started----- Oh well looks like a sitting around and shop piddling day for me. If I go out it will not be too far due to the time of the season and the combo of rain--- All the idiots will be out on the roads---- gotta figure out what I can get into in the shop today of course I will find SOMETHING. May throw on the rain suit and walk 9 anyhow since it is 50* right now

Today is travel day, so our visit to see the kids is coming to a close.

Thank you all for the birthday wishes for my DW. Her birthday isn't actually until the 13th, so there will be a second celebration then.

Last night we went to the local curling club to watch the kids play. They're playing with two other couples who they are friends with and rotate through. Some are eager for feedback, my son is not. I tried my best to keep my comments succinct and not cover too much. Perhaps you gents are right that I should just let them discover the game on their own like children rather than trying to be helpful. I'll keep that in mind going forward. If they ask that's fine, otherwise just let them have at it. Still it's hard to resist temptation when you see the look of frustration on their face.

I'm looking forward to getting back to my computer rather than poking out a post on DW's iPad. Still, nothing handier when traveling.

Sounds as though we'll be coming home to milder temperatures over the next couple of weeks. It has been quite cold out here, much more so than this time last year. I can't say that I'll be disappointed if we have a green Christmas.

My problem is LOFT -- Lack of friggin' talent

I wasn't an early riser on the road (unless I had to)but here I am, drinking my morning coffee,

up early and typing a post. Cobi is still sleeping.

Good for you Rad. I'm very happy for you! I've got 99 calendar days, or 77 work days left. I know they will fly, so I will be looking forward to your reports as I am on the launch pad. Being a flyer, I was so taken by the story as told by former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney about him and former President George H.W. Bush at his eulogy yesterday:

Former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney gave the next eulogy, and recounted a conversation the men had over Labor Day weekend 2001. Mulroney said he told Bush that he had noted a shift in his mood "over the last eight years from a series of frustrations and moments of despondency in 1993 to ... high enthusiasm" as his family continued to achieve successes. Bush ultimately replied, "Brian, you've got us pegged just right," and took him to a plaque on the Walker's Point, Maine, property that read: "CAVU." Bush explained: "Brian, this stands for ceiling and visibility unlimited. When I was a terrified 18- to 19-year-old pilot in the Pacific, those, those were the words we hoped to hear before takeoff. It meant perfect flying. And that's the way I feel about our life today, CAVU. Everything is perfect. Barbara and I could not have asked for better lives. We are truly happy and truly at peace."

So, CAVU to you Rad, and all others here at the Grille who have retired so far. I think when you get away from work, it sounds like you get the opportunity you deserve to start living. In more modern terms, CAVU means Clear, and visibility unrestricted. That's good, so now you have everything before you, and you can make it what you wish. Take advantage of it for once, you can see everywhere, the open sky is the limit- enjoy!

It's been raining all day, temp in the mid 40s; windy. Not that I had golf plans for the day

and I knew this rain was coming............but.......I went outside and yelled....CAVU! CAVU!

I was thinking about that old cartoon character yelling.....VAVOOM! VAVOOM!......and the

ground would shake and things come a tumbling down.

So........did Bill and the granddaughter have a fun round today? :) :)

Yes we sure did. , It was cold....but really,i was dressed for it,so it wasn't that terrible. Wind stayed down for the most part, and that helped.

I hit a couple good drives...They must not have been very long because I saw them hit ! Was a fun day. Hit some good shots, and even hit

a couple that she accused me of "posing". Ended up with a very respectable 48.good for me it this weather.. She didn't seem bothered by the

chilly temps...I remember when I was young, the cold didn't bother me either. Natasha threw a 41 at her poor old Gramps. Its kinda difficult

to act like you're upset for losing when your heart is swelled with pride ! She did really well. I hope she stays with it and tries the high school

and then the college golf. I think she'd do well. but, thats HER choice. She still wants to be a Nuclear Medicine Biologist , whatever that is.

A great day for this old man !

41 is a very respectable score for any amateur golfer, watched a PGA game last week and some pros were struggling to get that score. definitely has talent being so young. Get her into the pro circuit, be her caddie and then we can all watch you on TV.
