AP3 vs Mizuno 919F

Currently playing 900 forged and they are great irons. Did not care for the feel of the AP3s at all. The Mizunos will also be cheaper in the long run as no upcharge for shafts/grips.

Haven't hit the 919's but I game the AP3's. Personally I think they feel great, however feel is very subjective person to person so I would say you'd have to hit them yourself to find out. Performance wise they do exactly what I wanted them to do. Launch high and go a little straighter. I have noticed zero issues with distance control compared to my last iron set (titleist 690 CB's). Im sure the 919's are great too, but I think the AP3's deserve a chance as I think they are great.

Distance is comparable on both. Mizunos just feel a little softer.

There's literally a 1 degree difference in loft...

Out of curiosity I looked...….4-6 same lofts, 7-8 are 1* stronger in AP3's, 9 is 2* stronger in AP3's, and PW-GW are 3* stronger in AP3's. The more important factor to consider is how's the gapping on course. Just because you have two identical lofted irons doesn't mean they're going the same distance.

I game the ap3's 4-pw with a 50 degree gap. The gapping on course isnt perfect but it works well for me. I hit the pw about 150 on a full swing and the 50 about 135. I can step on the 50 to get 140 or lay off the pw. I love how the irons gap from pw on up.

I have AP3's and I don't mind them. These two irons you are discussing are both very comparable in my opinion. If I was to switch from the AP3's I would most likely end up with the 919 Forged..

having such strong short irons seems ridiculous. you literally need to buy a separate pw whilst still having a "pw" in the set. a traditional pw becomes the gw in that set. such a stupid trend these days.

Looking at these sets as well. Are we seeing any distance gains compared to let's say an ap2. Does forgiveness seem better then the ap2? I don't get to play as much as I would like and I am looking for a new set of irons that gain a little distance and are more forgiving, but not shovels as I am an ok/decent player per say for the amount I play..

I can provide some personal feed back to this as I heavily tested the 718 AP2 vs the 718 AP3 before I bought the AP3's. I thought that side by side centered (pure) shots felt the same. Off center hits felt bad on both but in different ways. Hard to explain but maybe the AP3's were more of a hard bad while the AP2's were a soft bad? Anyway, distance wise I was on average 10-12 yards longer with the AP3's (7 iron to 7 iron). I felt that on thin shots the AP3's flew about the same distance while the AP2's came up 6-7 yards short of the intended distance. I thought in general the AP3's were more forgiving in the fact that the seemed to get distance out of poorer strikes. Ball flight wise (I play a predominant draw) the AP3's were straighter. I have played the AP3's for most of this season and love them. I have no complaints (no I haven't had any of these random fliers I hear about). Overall I think they are a great club. If you like the way they feel, like I do, then I am certain you will like the way they perform.
