Driver fitting -!confusing results

Hi All

Anyone out there experienced a driver fitting that had the best numbers but felt you had to struggle with the club? Had a fitting with a well established fitter in Carlsbad area.

Went in for a fitting over the weekend and hit different brands and narrowed down to Ping G400 LST and G400 max.

The LST had the best raw numbers but I felt that I had to work hard to get the lift to carry the ball. Maybe the solution is to adjust more loft?

Swing speed is 96 mph, hitting regular stock shaft, and got about 250 with carry and roll out with the LST with spin rate low 2K. The head was 10*

The Max 10.5 * felt great but the fitter said it was spinning to much in the 3K range. Little less distance But I liked the feeling and more forgiving on miss hits.

Now if I could get the spin rate down with shaft flex,

brand or loft ?

I am 62 and a 12 index and home course is Torrey north and south.

Would you go with straight numbers or feel? I could play either.

Any input to clarify would be greatly appreciated.

Did you keep any numbers? 250 including roll out is not a good fit of a driver from 96 mph club speed

Rule of thumb : Club speed x 2.5 = carry as yards or total as meters....

96 x 2.5 = 240 yards carry and a total of 240/0.91 = 263 yards

Thats the normal target, and we can also get beyond it, so when you only get 250 including roll, that club is not fitted correct, and if it dont feel right either, you got the answer, thats NOT the club for you

if you got some LM numbers, let me look them over

I asked for the numbers and got deleted. Will go back in the try the 2 again to confirm which I like better.

Pay attention to where on the face you make impact

Never below the center line of the face, impact should be above and tad to the toe vs dead center

Impact position makes a huge difference for both ball speed, launch and spin

The same club, player and swing, can see launch variables up to 4 degreds depending on impact, and spin can vary from below 2000 to above 4000, still because of impact position only...

So LM numbers without knowing impact position is not club fitting, so pay attention to impact and smash factor to start with

Take chocolate and drink of Coke with you. Clubs got to feel right from the first Tee no use being fit for a shaft that needs 5 holes to warm up to hit good.

Diamana Dialead is a winner for me...keep at it and Low Spin doesnt always work dont let fitters ego ruin Your Game

Watched a video of Mark Crossfield and his friend testing drivers outside with a monitor. Crossfield was flying it by his partner on the monitor and when they got to their tee shots, his partner was the longest.

Moral of the story, monitors dont always tell the truth.

I got fit for a driver indoor using GCQ. Since GCQ club speed is always more than Trackman, I would say a rule of thumb is roughly around 3-4mph faster on GCQ on average.

I was hitting around 97~101mph on GCQ (so probably 94~97mph on Trackman), so similar to the OP.

However, my carry wasn't 250 at all. I had about 13 launch angle, 2600rpm spin, about 140mph ball speed and the impact location towards the toe in the middle or slightly lower than middle. My carry was probably around 220~230yds. But it performed the best out of all (G400 Max 10.5 as well).

Does it mean then I need to work on my swing now or that driver is still not the best fit for me?

Thanks.

I would like to see the face impact, but with a average spin of 2600 RPMs your average is below the centerline and should be raised a little

Depending on how long the distance is from VCOG to impact we can make a judgement if its more ball speed to get out of that head, but if impact is like you describe, most likely not, and if it is, its not much.

That means your ball speed of 140 and a shot from the hip of a PTR value of 1.48 on Trackman, your center of the club face speed is about 95

If you can tune impact a little higher, and above the center line, and keep impact at the center or up to 3/8 toe side, there is a potential for a few mph more ball speed, 3 - 500 Rpm cut off on spin, and 0.5 to 1.0 higher launch. It want make no big difference 5-7 yards at the most, with what ive got now to base this on, so a photo of the face would help.(based on a assumption of a actual PTR of 1.48 from a Trackman as it is now)
