Some eBay Sellers Have Dropped PayPal

I just made a purchase and no more PayPal, at least for now.

I had someone purchase an item I had on auction this morning and was payed via Paypal. I just added an item to a cart and went to checkout and still had Paypal as an option. You sure the seller just didn't offer it as a payment method?

I paid this morning with Paypal via ebay. It's still there, but there have been certain items the past few weeks that didn't accept Paypal, credit card only. They were more merchants with stores. I have a feeling we'll see more and more of this in the near future, but it won't just happen overnight like is being suggested.

eBay is encouraging higher volume Merchants to not accept it but it is still an option unless the merchant deliberately chooses not to take it.

This can't be accurate. If eBay didn't accept PayPal anymore, it would lose a ton of business.

I tried to purchase an item last week and during checkout discovered that PayPal was not a payment option. Contacted the seller and they said they have been incentivized by eBay to stick to CC payments and move away from PP.

Shares of PayPal sunk 7% Thursday after its former parent revealed it would no longer use the payments service as its primary processing partner.

Along with its earnings report after hours Wednesday, eBay announced a deal with processor Adyen to become its primary partner. The company said PayPal will continue to remain a payments option for eBay buyers during checkout, at least for a few years.

EBay said it will start the transition in payments processing later this year, with the majority of its marketplace customers using the new partner by 2021.

The e-commerce pioneer said the change will lead to lower costs for sellers, along with more options and a more integrated checkout experience for buyers. Netherlands-based Ayden also provides payment services for Netflix, Spotify and Uber. Ebay shares rose 15% Thursday after a better-than-forecast outlook.

"After careful consideration, we believe that we can offer a more seamless experience while giving buyers and sellers more choice for payment and payout options," President and CEO Devin Wenig said during eBay's quarterly earnings call.

What about PayPal?

 

EBay said PayPal will remain "an important partner," with a deal keeping the service as an option to make purchases in the marketplace until July 2023.

EBay has to have it, unless they replace it with something else for non business owners, and the like. Otherwise how would those folks receive payment?

Ok I stand corrected! It seems I misunderstood and the seller I bought from doesn’t accept PayPal. Sorry for the confusion on my part.

The only thing that has changed is major investor "Ican" influenced the BOD of eBay to spin off PayPal, making it independent. Now, one doesn't affect the others P&L. However, eBay still holds a strong if not controlling interest in paypal. I still use PayPal for eBay purchases. :beach:

Just get a PayPal debit/credit card. You can use it like any other card and even withdraw cash with it.

Not needed as long as the person has a verified bank account and or a bank debit or CC tied to their PayPal account, which is my case. :beach:

Anyone who has a bank account linked to Paypal and sells is a fool. Unless it’s a burner account for that sole purpose.
