Any other D1cks on tour?

Ive heard stories of Fred Couples being a total d1ck, as well as Lee Trevino, but Lee is my second fave golfer of all time so please nothing bad about him

Kuchar, Scott Piercy, Cantlay, Greg Norman, Michelle Wie, and Bubba can be. McIlroy has his moments. Spieth's caddie Greller is d*ck as well.

Regarding Michelle Wie, spent about 30 minutes talking with her while I was on range at a course on Oahu. During my time living on Oahu, saw her a few more occasions while out dining with my girlfriend and Michelle always made effort to stop by and speak, sweet and genuine girl. That being stated, also witnessed some people being less respectful of her privacy and personal space, which led to her seeming aloof and uncomfortable, even a bit defensive. Tough thing to constantly be faced with others expectations while trying to find your own way. In my opinion, have seen enough acts of kindness from Michelle to kids in Hawaii to more than make up being cautious with those that are demanding, rather than appreciative of her time and privacy.

I definitely think that the pros (or any high profile figure or celebrity) get mobbed with people all the time where they have no privacy or personal space. So of course, they are very stand off-ish with total strangers approaching them. To me it is totally understandable that they may be not the most friendly in many situations.

I don’t care who they are, I don’t treat them any different than any other person. To me they are total strangers who happen to play a sport for a living. I have never understood why people turn into jello when they encounter these people.

hahaha, Richard will love this when he reads it :) He has always had this thing about grown men fawning over other adult men/women that they don’t even know, lolol :) Madison

I was playing with a local pro I know well and do some lessons with. He played 30 some PGA tour events in the early 2000's. I randomly asked him who the most disliked guy on tour was, and without pause, "Rory Sabbatini without a doubt".

He was Bubba, before Bubba was Bubba

More like Perez before Perez was Perez. I honestly think Bubba being Bubba isn't entirely Bubba's fault and there is an underlying condition of some kind there whether it be severe ADD or something similar.

I think he acknowledged that on the 60 minutes feature. The reason I compared Rory to him was the "voted least liked" feature...Bubba got that distinguished honor a few years ago as well. FWIW i dont think he's a bad guy...was very nice and signed an autograph for my wife at Tiger's tourney a few years ago. We all have our quirks, lefties especially :)

This. I've yet to hear a good explanation as to why a grown man would want another man's signature on something that wasn't a contract or a check.

How about wearing a jersey with a guy's name on it?

He does seem cordial when being interviewed. I will say many years ago when the Disney Tournament was still going on at the end of the season (I believe it was a full pro-am at the time), I was following his group because there were a couple Tampa Bay Rays players in his pairing. Rory was paired up with an older gentleman (not sure who he was) but he was quite rude to the older amateur he was paired with. He frequently was yelling at him from a distance and using foul language. Obviously people can change but that was just one example I saw when he was younger.

Could be that he is just very serious during competition.

Hey SD, I hope that you’re well and had a nice season?

It’s not the on course “seriousness” that bothered me, as this is their job, the course is their office and in my eyes(actually “eye,” lol) at least, they owe the fans nothing when they walk out of that locker room pre-round.

I will give a guy/gal much greater latitude than most people do, for a variety of reasons, starting with having competed athletically through college, and while on a much much smaller stage than these gals/guys do, I saw what arseholes fans could be, some intentionally however I would say more unintentionally, as in they just didn’t know any better, lolol. I chalked it up to bad genes and thanked the Big Guy every night before I closed my eyes for mine?, lol

However, It’s his off-course behavior that bothered me and I’ve never said this before on this or any other board and in fact if you look at a few earlier RS threads, I defended him, in one I believe that I was the only one to do so though in all fairness, the vast vast vast majority of those casting dispersions wouldn’t recognize Sabbs if he passed em on the street(don’t his ears look like “elf” ears????) , much less having ever met him and spoken to him, lolol.

The bar incident that I spoke of earlier in this thread was after the earlier RS thread and there was another off-course incident that doesn’t need to be disclosed/discussed that left me shaking my head and that I called him on and it ended our evening and I haven’t seen/spoken to him since.

Nah, his on-course behavior is what it is, and it works for him and I am in no way qualified to judge, critique or criticize him on it.

But his off-course behavior???

Simply put, he’s a jerkoff and the only “seriousness” that I observed was that lil Rorrs takes himself waaaaayyyyy too seriously~

Off the course of course?

Stay well & have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy Healthy New Year?

I think Sabo is a great guy. I've always liked his competitive spirit and the way he plays the game - full tilt. As far as personally, I haven't met him, but followed him at the Nelson and enjoyed that. Took a picture with a friend of mine that worked the Nelson after his round and was kind and gracious. I think he's a fiery guy that probably has had some moments he wants back, probably like a lot of us!

I'm originally from South Africa so I like all the South African PGA Tour pros except for him. When the Honda Classic was in town he tried to hook up with my wife's best friend and luckily she called me first to ask me if I knew who Rory Sabbitini was seeing I used to be a pro golfer and was also from SA.... he had told her that he wasn't married, I told her that not only was he married, but his wife was 8 months pregnant at the time. Total d-bag!

I think he's a fiery guy that probably has had some moments he wants back

Ya think, lmao???????

I’m a fiery guy Collin, however when I flip the switch, as I said, it’s on dbags bigger and supposedly nastier than me, not some innocent low keyed guy 2-3” and 30-35lbs smaller than me standing at a bar with his wife or a young college aged female food server who had done absolutely nothing wrong yet he berated her and then turned on his then wife, Amy, when she tried to quietly calm him down.

Though ya don’t know me from Adam, about as well as ya know “Sabo,” you’re gonna have to trust me here that competitiveness fire and “playing the game full tilt” has nothing to do with him bein a dbag, lolol, as Sabbatini’s problems have not been on the course competitive and “fiery” in nature.

Having spent a good amount of time with with him, both alone on the course and with Madison(my fiancé) and his former wife, Amy, off of the course, the problem is that RS suffers from a lil man’s complex, in conjunction with a serious bout of entitlement along with a propensity to slam down drinks quickly combined with an inability to handle the after after effects of those drinks.

He’s nothing more than a Greg Norman light. I hate guys that belittle men/women that they believe to be inferior to them or beneath their “station” in life, but I’ll flip the switch anytime, anywhere and against anyone that berates, insults or criticizes a woman publicly and especially their wife.

I’m sure that he was a gem in the less than 5 minutes that you/your friend were with with him as I too witnessed him behaving perfectly fine following a competitive round and a few times during the round as I caddied for him in a Pro-Am when his caddie was unavailable and was flying in that evening.

He was gold that day.

—————————-

Later Edit:11:28am, 12/10/18-> I just thought of this and it’s irrelevent to the story line but you know me and how I go off the tracks??. It was just funny as s*** when it occurred and I’m speaking to the Pro-Am that I pinch hit as his caddie. As those of you know that have Played in a Tour Pro Am and most of you probably know also, all the top Tour Boys have their foursome already chosen for them and it’s basicslly a VIP group consisting of senior corporate big wigs from the sponsors or other big corporations in the area, to individual VIPs, clients, etc., and then when ya move down the list, the “working man” Pros are in the pre-Am draw at the party the evening prior to play. Well, ole “Sabo” was in the “working man’s” group and so he was in the draw. Oh boy, he wasn’t pissed, he was friggin LIVID??

Ya see, when ya get the VIP Ams, one, they’re normally not chops, and while they may not be Plus, they are usually low double digit/single caps and most importantly, they know the rules and ETIQUETTE of the game, which makes the ensuing 5+ hour round much more palatable for the Pro, and also his caddie, cuz most of the Pro’s caddies will help/assist the Ams with distance, clubs bla bla bla, basically “shielding” the Pro as much as possible from a hell on earth experience??

So here’s the Rorrster with a group of Ams that are out of a hat and he’s got a caddie(moi) that’s fillin in and not that familiar with the course, though I had Played it a few times, lol.

The absolute best and I kept this to myself but told Maddie and his then wife, Amy, that it was perfect Karma and that is that our fourth was some writer from some scrub newspaper from an outlying town and he was doing a piece on “The experience of playing in a PGA Pro-Am”????

It was BRUUUUUUTAL??

This clown had NEVER been on a course prior as a player and had been to the range 4 times the week prior to the tournament and had one lesson AND he was using these borrowed Sam Snead Wilson, NOT Staffs, the box set Wilsons with the beginner set-up, lmao???

Right hand to God

I had to go into the bathroom cuz I was laughing so hard that I was crying, literally, cuz he was furious, but I’ll give it to him, he took it like a man???

It was so hillarious that I called my Tour Bud from the bathroom and I could hardly talk from laughing??

And yes, the following day was BRUUUUTAL, and Rory handled himself like a Pro, and I told the guy on the second tee that we were there to play golf, not for him to conduct an 18 hole interview, and we understood each other and he also picked up on 16 of 18 holes prior to getting to the green, lol, so we did our part for the pace of play crowd??

Just thinking back on it has me LMAO??

Yep, Karma’s a B****?

——————————-

However as I said above, you ask me about a Player, one, I only will give you my opinion if I have FIRST HAND experience with them and not based on my Buddies’ experience with them or other second & third hand gossip & stories and secondly, as I’ve also stated, unless someone is downright rude during a competitive round, and I never saw this with Sabbatini, either prior to, during or post round, I will not make a judgement call on them as a person based on their on-course behavior, be it good, meh or poor. This is their work place and we all handle the ups, downs & pressures of the work place differently however very few people on the face of this earth in the course of their workday have the almost manic ups, downs, highs & lows that a Professional athlete faces during the course of their 2 to 5+ hours competitive work day, especially Professional Athletes who participate in an individual sport, such as golf, tennis or skiing, where everything is magnified ten-fold and there are no teammates on which to share the burdens with or push the blame to, unless of course they’re like the Bubster and blame their caddie, lmao?

He’s no more “fiery” than most of the guys that I’ve Played with and known, they just don’t have his sense of entitlement.

A man doesn’t speak to or treat any woman like he did Amy, and I don’t care if she “derserved it.” A man shuts his mouth, turns around and walks away. I’ve been there done that and it ain’t easy but that’s the difference between handling perceived adversity with class or handling it like a piece of s***, which I and Madison(who spent much more time with them than I did and saw his dbag side many more times than I) witnessed multiple times.

Oh yea, I too liked when he walked ahead during his round. Sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do to stoke the fire, keep the edge and not let someone else drag ya down.

So I don’t have a problem with “Sabo’s” on-course behavior as he was decent when i observed him. It’s his off-course behavior that is appalling.

I’ve found that most of the guys who think “Sabo’s” a “great guy,” one, don’t know him from Adam and have spent less that 3-4 minutes around him ON THE COURSE, and base their personal opinion of him as a man, on that brief superficial encounter, or they have a friend or the friend of a friend who themselves had a great 3-4 minute experience with “Sabo” ON THE COURSE and so they all base their opinions on that friend or that friend of a friemd’s experience and opinion, lolol

There is nothing wrong with that however I just base mine on different parameters~

Stay well Colin and have a great Holiday season?

And a Sports Illustrated poll of Tour players this week listed Sabbatini - with 25 percent of the votes - as the player they’d least like to be paired with.

“There’s probably 25 percent I wouldn’t want to play golf with,” Sabbatini said Thursday. “You can pick your battles, but I’m not out here to make friends, I’m out to win golf tournaments.

“You can let it affect you. But I know who my friends are and those are the guys whose opinions I respect.”

What would you expect from a guy who, when asked once who the best player under 30 is in the world, said, “Me.”

Nobody really thinks of Sabbatini, who turned 31 earlier this month, as one of the best young players in the world. Nobody really thinks of him as being one of the best South African golfers.

They just think of him as being a jerk.

Rory is viciously rude to volunteers. VOLUNTEERS!. People not getting paid to be there. People helping him find his double cross ball in the woods. I have marshaled a handful of tournaments and this is echoed by almost all Marshal captains. "Watch out for Sabbo". Marshal Captains have had to go so far as to get the tournament directors to intervene and tell Rory to calm the F-down and threaten to not let him back to the tournament (THE PLAYERS).

Example: Hole 16 at Sawgrass PAR 5 has 2 pedestrian crosswalks. 1st is about 200 yds from the tee box the other is about 370 yds away up by the lake closer to the green. All week, when the players on the tee are ready to hit, the first tee box is shut down for obvious reasons, but the second is left open. Only one player all week (Tony Finau) reached it. There are toooooons of people at this tournament all drunk, all being loud and moving about all the time.

But the ONE time Rory has honors he has it on this tee-box and curses out the whole tee box marshal staff about why that crosswalk isn't closed. (mind you he doesn't hit it all that far by todays standards). He is off put by seeing movement 370 yrds away and that's no way to conduct a professional event and he is sick of the tournament letting these idiots on the course, etc, etc, etc. General lack of respect for other human beings. Thinks/wishes he was Tiger woods. Other players on the same hole, if they didn't want to wait, HIT OVER crowds of people in the first crosswalk. Rory wishes there were no fans allowed on the course, then there would be no need for incompetent volunteers. buuuut he still wants to play for millions. come on.

Those "fans" that pay his bills and make the Tour what is are providing him the opportunity to earn a $50k check by making the cut and finishing t55. Those volunteers are the ones keeping these Rory-Hating fans from bum-rush-tackling you and beating you for the Di*% he is.

WiTB is too fluid, so here are some other less fickle facts:
Dog - Viszla
Child - 2 yrs Old
Wife - Hot
Truck - Beat up Nissan Titan

Hey RS, nice post and I would agree with ya however I have to say, and some scenarios and situations I’ve spoken of on the board however there are many more that I have not and all I’ll say is that while I really believe that most of the fans, when they’ve approached guys/gals that I was with, did not intentionally set out to be rude inappropriate or boorish, as most seemed like in a normal setting with their buds, they were decent guys.

It’s just that their thoughts, visions, words and actions get so narrow & myopic when they see their “hero” or sports star, that all common sense, courtesy and etiquette go out the window and all that is on their mind is “me, me, me,” and it’s even worse if it’s legitimately for say, their son or daughter, and I’m giving them credit that it is legitimately for their son/daughter, as they will push the child to the front, lol.

I remember back when Sam(Snead) would join Pete(his Bro) and I at a meal when he was in town and his only “rule” was, he didn’t sign autographs while he was eating his meal. You could approach him prior to any food hitting the table and he’d be fine however once the appetizers or entrees hit the table, you either waited till he was finished or ya just were s*** outa luck that time, lol.

I liked that rule and in fact my BFF from childhood, who went on to Play 5 years in the NFL even adopted it when I was in town to visit him(He Played for the Baltimore/Indy Colts) and two guys approached when he actually had just taken a bite of his pasta and couldn’t speak with a mouth full of food, lmao, and I responded that he’d be glad to sign however could they please let him finish his dinner and then he’d be glad to spend a few minutes with them. They were decent and the one apologized and as they were walking away, I felt badly cuz they were so polite that I called em back???. He signed a hat and a piece of paper for em, lolol, however he adopted that policy from that point on.

It’s just sooooo hard for a celebrity to go out and try to enjoy a nice quiet relaxed evening with their loved ones and friends, so I can understand how occasionally one may be short with a fan, because unless you witnessed their total lack of privacy and then the pushiness of some of the fans, and I’d say probably 25-30% are pushy and get nasty if denied, it’s hard to understand their point of view.

The only three individuals that I never saw refuse a fan were Mr. Palmer, Michelle Wie & John Daly.

They are/were Gems??

Stay well my Friend and have a Great Holiday Season?

Fair enough. I will never have a clue what it's like to be hounded everywhere. I do remember wine tasting in Temecula. Molly Ringwald came up to my wife and commented on our son we stood around a chatted a few minutes. She then went up to the bar to taste and everyone wanted her autograph, pictures etc. She was really sweet about it but left soon after. This was when she wasn't very popular. Couldn't imagine around the teen flick era. Guess it comes with the territory. I get it having a meal etc. leave them alone. It does seem most of the accounts on here about Sabbs behavior is on the clock. Professionalism must win out. He'd probably beat the hell out of someone if they came up to his dinner table LOL

Great Holiday to you as well.

I saw Sabbatini up close and personal at the Transitions over here at the Innisbrook Resort in March. At the 18th tee, he called out someone who was supposedly talking during his backswing.

I was standing right there, and there was no such talking. One of the caddies in the group was standing by me while Master Rory was bitching; we looked at each other and simply gave it the "you gotta be kidding" eyeball roll.

At Riviera, early in the season, Sabbatini berated a 16-year-old volunteer for marking one of his wayward drives with an empty soda can. He tore the kid a new one, and the tour later made him apologize.

Rory will soon solve that problem by becoming a citizen of Slovakia. (for the Olympics I presume)

Great post B!!

The only remark that I would disagree with is the one regarding Sabbatini eventually getting his block knocked off.

As I stated earlier, and I said this to him twice, including the last time that we ever spoke and that is, and Amy confirmed this to Maddie, that like the typical bully, he chooses and berates those that he not only considers himself superior to, however with guys that he knows they either will not retaliate with force or if they do, he’s comfortable that he could handle them.

He had two opportunities to make me eat my words, and I even moved the table from between us and had Amy and Madison step away and as I slowly closed the space between us, he backed up, spun and exited the restaurant, leaving Amy with us, and she spent the night with us at Madie’s friend’s condo that evening, lmao. I have never in my life taken someone on in front of their spouse or loved one, however I would have taken great glee in humiliating him that evening, and Amy said not one word in an attempt to intercede prior to his leaving and later told Madison that she was hoping that he stood his ground but knew that he would not, lmao.

He’s a piece of work for sure, lmao

Stay well Bro and I wish you and yours a Blessed Christmas and New Years?

My Best,

Richard

Two years ago at the Honda, he hit a spectator with an errant drive. The poor guy just bled all over the place and the EMT’s wrapped him up like a mummy. Rory was so shaken up from that he went on to score an 8 on the hole and then a 9 on the next. Never really said he was sorry to the guy either. I think he dropped out after that day.

I think it all speaks for itself on this one. Aside from the Elkington video where he uses a marker on his driver for him, is there any other positive moments for the guy. I even heard from a disabled Vet that I caddie for that he was an absolute jerk at a Birdies for the Brave event, which I believe he was wearing those pants for at one time. He does seem to relish his reputation. At the Northern Trust last year on Friday he was getting razzed by some guys in the crowd and he gave them a smirk and mouthed something at them as he walked off the tee, then smiled as he shook his head. It was interesting.

We don't know if he did later on though either.

Here is all you need hahahaha

Wow! Never ever seen that. Shame that he did it to Rickie and now someone a little more volatile. Then I can't imagine Rory is the sort of guy that would try that with someone who wasn't like Rickie.

Like to see him try that move with Perez. Or better still his fellow countryman Ernie....
