Not sure if it’s verifiable, but allegedly, Dennis Trixler was fined more than he earned in one season?

I thought I’d have a shot at this one

I heard Calcavecchia was having a run at that record one year but he won the Canadian Open in September one year to put him in the black for the season.

Tom Kite and Fred Couples both have the biggest wins - 8&7 in Ryder Cup singles matches. No chance that anyone ever goes better than that. A 9&8 or even better/worse 10&8 is just unfathomable.

Not sure that it is much of a record or one that anyone would want to have as their record but how about Justin Rose missing his first twenty cuts as a Pro and then going on to win a major and end up world number 1, possible that anyone else is ever able to do that?

At least not in my lifetime.

  1. Jack's 18 majors
  2. Jack's 48 top three finishes in majors
  3. Jack's 17 years making the top 10 on money list
  4. Tiger's scoring record; 67.794 in both 2000 and 2007
  5. Tiger's 683 weeks ranked as #1 on OWGR
  6. Kathy Whitworth's 88 LPGA wins
  7. Phil's 1314 weeks (and counting) ranked in the OWGR top 100
  8. Nelson's 18 wins in one season
  9. Nelson's 11 consecutive wins
  10. Nelson's 65 consecutive top tens

Of those listed Nelson's 11 consecutive wins is the least likely to be broken - followed by his 18 wins in a single season.

Tiger winning 4 consecutive professional majors

Tiger spending over 10 years as the #1 ranked player in the world

Tiger winning a major championship by 15 shots

Tiger not shooting over the field scoring average for an entire year

Tiger largest OWGR points gap between #1 and #2

Tiger largest win in 1-on-1 professional match play 9&8

I'm sure there are plenty more but we overlook the number of unbreakabke records Tiger has set.

When it comes to records, look first to longevity!

https://www.golfdige...nead-still-hold

Oldest player to make a cut, at 67, at a regular PGA Tour event - Sammy.

OIdest to win a regular PGA Tour event as well, say what you will about Tiger/Phil/etc. - don't see that getting broken either.

And Bob Charles, at 71, will likely be the oldest ever to make the cut at the New Zealand Open.

How can you make such a list without mentioning Tiger winning all four majors in row?

Hey chopper, what are you hitting there?

After how long does being "out of form" turn into "a bad golfer"?

I would say of these, number 7 is most likely, followed by number 4. There may be a female Tiger out there for number 5, but I am not sure if anyone will decide that they want that long a career. Annika would have almost certainly broken it for example.

Can't see anyone winning a major by 16 shots anyway. Even if someone gets 9 or 10 ahead at some point, it's unlikely they'll have the burning passion of Tiger to push the record as far as it can go.

Rory's won a few majors by 8, Kaymer won one in the last 20 years that wasn't Tiger, but that's half of what would be required to do it. I suppose if Mickelson didn't exist in 2016, Stenson would have won by 14, but again I don't see Stenson pushing that hard without Mickelson, just not his personality.

I thought I saw recently that Tiger had some rediculous record for most consecutive cuts made? I remember saying to myself wow, don't see anybody ever even coming close to that number again... I feel like it was 160 something? No time to google right now.

That's the DiMaggio record of golf. Do you know how hard it would be to break that? Never mind the level of golf necessary. How many cuts would a guy have to make before the media started bugging him about it? 40? 50? 60? 70? The pressure that would ramp up would be crushing.

Ah okay cool.

Wow looked it up... nobody seems to have even broken 50 (other than the other top 4 people) in the past 40 years. What's even more mind-bogglingly insane is this:

"At the 1980 Inamori Golf Classic, Jane Blalock missed the cut. It was her first missed cut since ... ever! Blalock was a rookie on the LPGA in 1969, and she had never missed a cut. She had a streak of 299 consecutive cuts made when it finally ended at that 1980 tournament."

That could be a once in a century kind of record. Almost 300 cuts in a row... I'm not sure the climate of LPGA competition at the time but that's still bananas.

Agreed. That's the thing about the top players. They set unimaginable records while under the pressure of 'expectation'. You expect them to go above and beyond and then they actually do.

It is a ridiculous record. But the name is misleading. His 141 "cuts made" includes events where there was no cut. So it's better described as 141 events where he did not miss the cut. You can't make a cut if there is no cut.
