Wilson C300 Forged vs. Ping i200

Tommyj

Recommended Posts

Looking to replace my G25 irons with a more compact/less offset iron. Always been a Ping guy but the Wilson look nice and there is a significant price difference up here in Canada - Wilson is $125/club, i200 is $175/club.

Very limited feedback here on WRX from people who have put the C300 Forged in play. Would love to hear back from both those who are playing the C300 as well as those who have tested/demoed C300 Forged vs. i200.

Thanks

Originally placed an order for V6s, but at the last min. changed my mind and got i200s. I agree, there is a big diff. in price, but was worried about trade-in value if they didn't work for me. Around here Ping gets top dollar for trades and Wilson one of the lowest. Don't get me wrong, Wilson makes great stuff. If you are going to keep these irons for a long time, why not save some $$ and go with the Wilsons. C300 driver, woods, hybrids are great too. ;)

I sort of did the same thing, I was looking at the Rogue Pros and the C300 forged, and.I was actually moving away from the i200s..I just struggled more in my mind with the look/feel of the Pings.. Really liked the look of the Wilsons, feel was not as soft as I had hoped, but still good, but the Callaways were quite similar, a bit stronger lofted, but $100 more. Sadly, I made the same calculation, trade in value and how long I probably will hold on to the clubs. On that scale, the Wilsons have a hard time competing...

Everything else equal, I would probably play the C300 forged over the i200s or the Rogue Pros....but it would be close.

Its like you and Mike_C are reading my mind. Whenever I look at Wilson my first thought is - "I can buy those new for half price next year". You're right about trade in and resale values, I can still get some decent money back on my G25s. My other question is, do I trust Wilson to build a custom set for me.

The other problem I had was KBS was pretty much stock with Wilson. I don't get along with KBS, except Tour 90s. I prefer TT and Nippon. Another reason I went Ping. Wilson wanted big bucks for anything other than KBS installed?!

I got the C300forged last week, and have played a few times with them on course. Phenomenal. I've hit the i200, along with pretty much everything else comparable to the C300forged and the C300f not only is a better bang for the buck, but just better. Great feel. Great forgiveness. Great look. Just a great iron, and you will not be disappointed and you probably won't worry about the trade in value because you're not going to want to trade them in!

On their website they offer most KBS and TT shafts as upgrades for no extra cost.

KBS Tour (FLT and all weights) are no up charge and for TT only standard DG and AMT. C-Taper is $25/club - Lite is $26, all Modus are $34/club, PX LZ $51/club and even XP 95 is $26/club. These are all shafts that Ping (except C-Taper) and Mizuno offer at no up charge.

I have 4 rounds in with the C300 Forged coming off of FG Tour 100 and am very happy with the switch thus far.

No reason whatsoever not to trust them. I was well pleased when they put Px 5.5s in my FG 100s.

I'm from Canada, we get screwed on golf equipment. We pay more than the US. :(

I'm in Canada as well. At GT most of the OEMs' C$ pricing is relatively close to where the exchange rate is. The only one I'll complain about is Ping - their C$ price is 40% higher for the i200 irons (US$125 vs. C$175 per club) and 50% higher for the G400 driver (US$400 vs C$600). Wilson is a bit of a bargain up here - C300 Forged is US$899 south of the border but only C$999 up here (both for an 8 iron set).

I hit the C300F again today and I'm impressed. Great feel and good distance, but no ability to try different shaft options. I'll pick up a set when they are on sale for $499 at the start of next season.

Not really in the market to make iron changes. I am currently playing FG Tour F5 and im a little concerned on how strong the lofts are on the C300 Forged especially from where im coming from

They are a half club longer but with no loss in height, not sure how

Yes.. you do trust them to build a set.

I was on their baseball staff and used merch credit to buy FgTours, V2s, V4s, pmp wedges... all custom... all over the last 8 years.

And every single club has been perfect.

Wilson is every bit as high end as anyone else. Even though they lost their rep 20 years ago

anyone have any thoughts on the offset of these?

PGA tour SS had a set on display. Seemed to be much less offset than the old C200s and the non-forged c300s.

The short irons (8-GW)have almost the same size and offset at the FGTour V6s.

For non-wilson familiar, the V6s have a tad less offset than AP2.

Has anyone had an issues with the powerholes in the C300 Froged coming out or getting pushed inside of the head? I'm on the fence between either the V6 or C300F.

No. My clubs are a bit banged up and I take very good care of them but I really don't care if they look less than perfect since I game them and then replace them :)
