Older Forgiving Irons for Wife

My wife played a "box set" of Ladies Miscela TaylorMade irons for over 15 years. She won club championships in three different States with them, and can still break 80 as a more "mature" woman. You can probably find a set like that at goodwill for $20. Just put on good grips. They were not even very expensive when they were new. They are a vey basic cavity back design. Lofts are "old school", PW is 50 degrees, the 5 and 6 are hybrid like.

I replaced my wifes "starter" set of irons with a used set of Ping G15s that are 5 through SW (8 irons) for about $175. They are ladies flex with graphite shafts.

Looking to build or buy my wife a "new" set of irons. She rarely gets out with me but is showing more interest. Forgiving is the name of the game.

 

I'd like to spend less than $150 (less is of course better) all in and looking for model recommendations from the community. I haven't played this game long enough to recall older irons that might fit the bill.

Id just love it if Mrs R joined here herself, saw how much you spend on golf clubs and how you were looking to spend the price of a second hand wedge to fully kit her out. Could be a fun thread :)

Older Callaways. The original 90s era Big Bertha irons are stupid easy to hit and super cheap (under $100). I got a set of '97 Golds and its topline and sole are so thick every club looked liked a hybrid.

 

I gave that set to my GF so she can use it when we go out on Pitch and Putt (she'll only play on those types of courses).

That would be disastrous! She already complains about quantity. If she found out cost...

 

I didn't set the price limit. She did! Practical like that unless its something for the dogs. ?

I got my daughter a set of Cobra SS Oversize irons 5-PW with nice graphite shafts for under a hundred $ on the bay. These are very nice clean heads that I hit well on the range before I gave them to her. She likes them.

Re-reading the title of this thread again and now it sounds like you're willing to trade your wife for older forgiving irons.

I think he'd have to price her out if he listed this in the BST... and that kind of thing can shorten your life span by decades.

 

Of course if he's a lefty, there's always the Swap thread.
