46 posted rounds on home course.

21 rounds from Blue tees 6567 yards 72.0 129 slope

71.7 scoring ave

8.4 fairways

13.5 greens

25 rounds from White tees 6167 yards 69.8 125 slope

72.1 scoring ave

7.8 fairways

13.5 greens

Started season 0.5 handicap. Finished at +0.9

Don’t keep track of putting too much but guessing an average of 32 putts per round.

Higher scoring ave from 400 yards closer.. that's interesting. Maybe a game management kind of thing? Trying to really bomb it on the shorter holes, and it gets you in trouble?

I noticed that as well. Same GIR off both tees. Shorter course has some risk/reward lines off the tee, which is our league tee. I get up earlier than normal and hustle throughout the day to make tee time w/o proper warm up as well. Thinking that’s a contributing factor.

Pretty interesting topic and one that has really hit home for me in the past few days. First, here are my stats per GameGolf in the past year for this 13 handicapper:

Item >>>>>>>>>>Value >>>>>>>Equivalent Handicap Level

Off the tee >>>>>>1.45 SG >>>>>>5

Approach >>>>>>>0.74 SG >>>>>>3

Short Game >>>>>3.63 SG >>>>>>21

Putting >>>>>>>>>5.61 SG >>>>>>24

100 & in approach >82% >>>>>>>>+2

100-150 approach >50% >>>>>>>> 4

151+ approach >>>38% >>>>>>>>>1

Driver distance >>>242 yds >>>>>>5

Scrambling >>>>>>7% >>>>>>>>25

Putts/hole >>>>>>>2.1 >>>>>>>>25

GiR >>>>>>>>>>>>57%.>>>>>>>1

Until recently, the really poor short game, scrambling, and putting-related stats really weren't computing for me. I knew that putting was something I needed to work on this winter but I didn't see it as being as critical of a problem as it clearly is. This past Saturday, I played a round of winter golf in cold temps and strong winds and missed more greens than usual as a result. As my stats would predict, I didn't putt well either. After looking over my post round numbers, I went back and looked at that round more closely and FINALLY understood the scope of my problem. I was stunned at what I found.

In Saturday's round, I realized that I either chipped and two-putted or full-on 3 putted 17 of 18 holes, yet still shot 15 over. It was at that point that the light went off in my head and I realized that if I spend my winter and spring really working on my chipping (I strike the ball fine but consistently fail to predict the length of rollout) and my lag putting from nearly every hole to around half of the holes, I would be consistently shooting at or under 80, which would make me a single digit handicap in no time.

Needless to say, I have found an avenue to dramatically improve my scoring that is extremely attainable in the coming months and I would not have discovered it without having detailed stats about my rounds.

EDIT: Tried to improve the formatting of the chart for readability.

Here are my stats for all rounds in 2018. Needed to start keeping this stuff since I have a toddler at home and can’€™t practice all that much. I needed to get more focused to stay competitive in Am events.

GIR % / scoring from 180-200 is a struggle as well as 3-putting. Handicap is +2.

Sorry just realized the picture is illegible ... let's try this again

I'm too cheap to pay for the extra stat features on Swing x Swing but here are the ones they have given me for the last year. Only about 15 rounds since I had a baby in late 2017 (and I have another one coming in January 2019 :swoon: ).

Scoring Average - 82.4

Putts Per Hole - 1.8

Birdies Per Round - 1.5

Pars Per Round - 7.1

Bogeys Per Round - 7.1

Double Bogey's Per Round - 1.9

Others - 0.4

Greens in Regulation - 39%

Handicap - 5.3

Needless to say I would LOVE to improve my ballstriking. So I went from some nuclear long P790s to some more controllable Ping i210 irons. I also get myself into trouble off the tee chasing distance I clearly don't have.

Appreciate the kind words. With a kid under 2, I worked very hard last year simplifying my golf swing with my backyard hitting net so I didn’t have to practice as much to stay competitive in the Phoenix Am scene. Charting stats really helped as well to see where I was struggling.

Sorry to probably ask the dumb question, but how do you calculate the Strokes gained without an App etc?

Not dumb at all. If you've got Mark Broadie's book, he shows how to do it and provides the appropriate reference table. You can do it manually, but it's a little tedious. I'm not sure if any app other than the one from GolfMetrics will handle the calculations. FWIW, Broadie makes a pretty convincing case that traditional metrics like fairways hit, greens in regulation, and total putts are pretty worthless and, in fact, often render the wrong conclusion.

Sorry for the delay in answering!

I'm -7.79 Strokes Gained per round vs. the PGA Tour avg. And actually, when you look at my hcp index vs. the known indexs of a few pros, that number works out about right. Of course none of this accounts for pressure, better green surfaces, tougher rough, better overall course conditions, firmer fairways, etc. but it's a great way to know what I need to work on!

Hey! I know I'm late but I really enjoy the stats behind the game of golf and maybe this post will stir up some others to post their 2019 stats. By looking at the other posts I can almost imagine your game without seeing your swing it's fun. Also, I'm noticing that those who keep their stats seem to be well under my 10 HCP goal so maybe that's a lesson in itself. Without further ado here are the statistics of a 14.2.

BTW I use thegrint.com to track all my stats. I don't work for them or get paid but it has changed my game and I highly recommend it. By simply adding your score and tracking your putts and hazards it will provide you with everything I posted above and more.

Annnnd they provide an official USGA HCP. GHIN isn't the only game in town anymore.

If you don’t have terrible speed control or green reading abilities, you will pretty much always be <2 putts/GIR no?

After 6 years of constantly playing between a 2 and a 3 hcp (avg score 75.5-77), I changed my team, my coach and started to use DECADE :)

My hcp dropped from 2.5 to 0.7 so far, hopefully still ongoing.

selected Category | 2019 | 2018/2017 (if available)

Scoring Average | **72.47** | 75,7

Birdies per Round | 2.7 | **2.75**

Bogey's per Round | **3.06** | 4.2

Double Bogey+ per Round | **0.18** | 1.13

Double Bogeys per Round | **0.18** | 0.94

Fairways hit | 54.98% | ~50%

GiR | **70.51%** | 55%

Scrambling | **50%** | 42%

Putts/GiR | 1.86 | 1.86

3-putt avoidance | 4.64%

SG driving | **-1.81** | -2.64

SG approach | **-1.11** | -2.89

SG short game | +0.55 | **+0.6**

SG putting | **-0.89** | -1.37

Par 3 Scoring | 3.15

Par 4 Scoring | 4.09

Par 5 Scoring | 4.76

Par 3 GIR | 65.98%

Par 4 GIR | 68.06%

Par 5 GIR | 79.41%

Feel free to dig deeper into my stats, see attachment. Note: There are some conversion issues in the DECADE-App. Take the putting distances, round up and you'll get the distance in feet:

So 2.7-3.6m is actually 3-4ft.
