Best Budget Wedge

Recommended Posts

In the market for a new 3 wedge upgrade for my gamer bag. I no longer buy into all of the hype of marketing around player/commercial endorsed products, just good functional tools that work, (meaning I have owned/played top shelf gear in the past and I believe in the archer vs the arrow more...as long as the arrow isn't crooked..hehehehe). I want to upgrade my gamer bag that I am working on for 2019. First post and question for the WRX gents.

What's the best bang for your buck wedges? (either build it/buy it built/etc) Maltby? Primary OEM brand (if so WHY)? DTG? Gigagolf/Acer/Dynacraft?

I am an average hacker getting back into the game looking to break 80 consistently and get some finesse at a reasonable cost. I do know how to spin the ball, etc., I just don't know I want to pay $99+ per wedge for 3 wedges or get a worn out beat up gear just for OEM namesake from ebay (done that already).

My goal is to have reasonably good tools to score better with if I use the proper technique. Thoughts? THX!

Depending on the fine line of how you really want to do it and the budget Maltby is a good bet. Their stuff is as good of quality as any. If you are able to build your own clubs you can do the shafts and grips like you want them. You can also mix bounces and even style of heads within the set.

Driver--- Callaway Big Bertha Alpha--- Speeder 565 R flex

5W  --- TM V Steel Fubuki 60r

7W --- TM V Steel UST Pro Force 65 R flex

THX gents...keep em coming. The Maltby pack kit goes for $53 (with KBS shaft)….that's a steal and prob good quality. I have a ton of component clubs since I am a taller guy, I just build or have them built for my size when I can, to my specs which I dig. I see and expected the usual OEM names (VokeyCleveland) popped up so far and that's cool, but still pretty premium prices ($70 x 3 wedges = $210), I don't want to buy used wedges on ebay….I'll buy a regroove tool and redo my own before I do that at this point.

Anyone playing a higher end component wedge they would endorse? The Vokey inspired CNC cut on some wedges component or OEM really catch my eye.

If you are serious about saving some coin and you want customized, Maltby is your ticket. I have bought various wedge heads from them and they are no doubt quality. This is one of my favs.

The best have been said. Rock bottom t7 for 69. Dicks - gg rtx 3 for 69. Or Maltby for like 39. I have all of them and can’t decide which I like best. They are all great, depends in shape you like really. Can’t go wrong.

I also have a set of these. One thing I really like about them is the DBM finish makes the soles super smooth. They glide through rough better than almost any wedge I've ever used.

Awesome feedback, thx! First thread on WRX and you guys sounded off nicely. Several Maltby users sounded off which is what I was hoping to get affirmation or thumbs down on. I had never been to the RBG site...thanks as well. Saw some good prices there as many alluded to.

Well....I think its gonna be a Maltby order after the holidays. Price is right, several affirmed quality is g2g and I can get it my size.

I'm not cheap....I'm frugal and like to make my dough go a ways hence the question.

I don't know if they're still available but for years and years Adams had a 3 wedge set bearing Tom Watson's name for under $100 USD. Never heard a bad thing said about them.

10.5 deg Titleist 905R with stock UST Proforce V2 Shaft (Stiff flex)
Titleist 990 (3-PW) with stock Dynamic Gold in S300
Taylormade V-Steel 5W & 3W with Grafalloy Prolaunch Red shafts (Regular Flex)
2011 Adams Tom Watson signature wedges in 52 and 56 degrees with stock steel shafts (Player's Grind)
Rife Island Series Aruba Blade Putter
