The two best fairways of recent releases are the G400 and Epic SZ for different reasons.

G400 for forgiveness and great launch conditions from just about any lie, plus it sounds extremely solid. Might still make my bag if I can find the right shaft combo

Epic SZ is better for me than the Rogue for adjustability, ball speeds and head shape. I found it worked off the short grass better than anything, and if I miss the fairway it's more likely to be the hybrid or a layup.

Distance wise m2 series, particularly deep face ones. Playability wise, depends on your swing type.

I hate 3 woods. Hate. Cannot hit off turf and hadn't bagged one in 4 seasons.

 

Swapped to a titleist setup this year and on a whim picked up a 917F2 to test. Weight toward the toe and suddenly is the best stick in the bag.

 

I've hit everything on the market and nothing can beat the consistency and sound of my titleist F2. Some are longer, none are better.

 

Ditto. Until I came across the Srixon F65. It's last year's model and came with the Miyazaki Kaula Mizu shaft. I get 240-250 off these babies, and find more fairways than not!

GC I've noticed that you played the Callaway BB alpha 816 3 wood and have moved on. I too have the alpha 816 and like it especially at setup, for some reason I feel the urge to pursue another 3 wood. Could you explain why you changed?

Just bought a 2017 M2 Tour 15 degree and it arrives later this week. Wasn't a lot of 2016 M2's on eBay and after reading the comments here, now I know why.

I am bad about giving my family ideas for things to purchase for me at Christmas. So, I went to my local golf shop and started messing to make a "Christmas" list and ended up opening pandora's box instead. I know the guy who runs the shop and he let me borrow a 3 & 5 Rogue for my trip to South Carolina for Thanksgiving. I played 3 rounds and they just consistently outperformed my 816's in every way in terms of distance, forgiveness, and control. My 5 wood 816 was essentially my unicorn, the club I could hit well no matter how things went to s***. The Rogue was still better. My only hang up was the lack of an adjustable hosel, but with the right shaft (for me the Evenflow Blue), it made no difference. I highly recommend trying each shaft offering before committing or concluding they do or do not work for you.

 

I ended up just buying them on Black Friday due to the BOGO deal.

He isn't wrong, part of why it was so difficult to get the 816 out of my bag was the ability to adjust it to 16 degrees. The 3W (4 Wood) was longer than most 3 woods and stupid easy to hit out of everything.

I like my setup - Ping G30 3 wood with a Grafalloy prolaunch axis red special 5 wood shaft.

The original Callaway XR is still my favorite. Sounds awesome and is so easy to hit. I'm not the biggest Callaway fan, but they make great fairway woods.

 

The correct shaft is also giant part of "The Best 3 wood" puzzle.

Currently game a G400. It’s alright. Forgiving and playable. The 2017 m2 tour is amazing. Flat, open, and deeper faced. Also extremely workable and long. Not all that forgiving however.

Just purchased a titelist TS2 with Atmos Black 7x and it is a straight bomber..... tipped it an inch, but the feel/sound of the TS2 is the best I've experienced from a 3 wood in a while. Easy to launch and shape.

I will agree with this statement. The new line is phenomenal but the 3 wood is much to upright for me. I believe the lie angle on this is 59* with most other 3w manufacturers run somewhere around 55*-57* range. These can't be adjusted either. The only option Srixon had to offer was to use a shorter shaft. My Epic SZ 3w is an absolute bomber!

In my limited experience, Nike VR Pro and TM Aeroburner TP (High Spin Tour Model) were the best. I like my current Vapor flex 3wd but I just haven't had enough time with it to say it's better than those two lovelies i mentioned

Currently gaming 816alpha from Callaway 14* adjusted to 16*. It has been solid for me with PX red 6.0 75gm. But in Wrx fashion I’m looking at others.

Still rocking an Adams XTD Ti! If I were to look at a new 3W, likely from Ping, as it matches my G400 LST. Ping's branded shafts agreed with me well, worth looking at for a similar club.

Tour Edge Exotics CBX found a place in my bag recently. The thing goes a country mile and really keeps spin low giving me more confidence in my aiming accuracy.
