Straight and most forgiving driver

If you get a TS2 setup with just the right shaft for you you will be shocked how straight and forgiving it is. The bonus, it is long.

Objectively there is no doubt. The g400max has the highest MOI. But MOI is not the only thing that makes a driver forgiving... it's just the thing that makes it least prone to twist on off-center strikes.

 

That said, the TS2 is in the over 5k moi category also, and several others too. They statement of 8% more forgiving (based again on MOI alone) doesn't hold against many of the late '18 and '19 models.

 

The most forgiving driver is the one that helps an individual's mishits. For some, the high spin on a miss is killer on distance. For some, the over correction of lateral spin causes the miss to be too far right or left.

 

We aren't robots, and MOI is measured only on the amount the driver twists on a miss. Certainly not the only thing involved in forgiveness.

 

I had a G400Max, LST, GLS. Don't get me wrong, very easy to hit straight overall, but the 400max did favor the left side... that's my directional miss. Th LST and GLS actually was giving me the same number of fairways in regulation, with more distance maintained on a mishit.

 

The TS3, the way I have it fit, has given me the same # of fairways again, but with much more distance on center strikes (lower spin and more ball speed) and much more distance on my toe miss (significantly more ball speed and less spin out to the toe).

 

On paper and on the course are not always the same thing.

 

As far as I am aware, MOI IS the only objective measure of forgiveness. Everything else is subjective and when quantified can be applied to any driver. Things like shaft weight/flex/length, swing weight, headweight, face angle, loft, grip size....all of these things can and do contribute to you hitting one driver differently than another, but none of these things are inherent in the design. Yes MOI measures twisting but twisting is literally what causes a driver to be more or less forgiving. Lateral twisting on heel/toe strikes shifts the spin axis of the ball and produces right/left misses. Vertical twisting on low/high strikes causes spin to increase/decrease which impacts distance. The higher the MOI the less pronounced these effects are, that is the only measure of forgiveness. Anything else has to do with the unique needs of a player and has nothing to do with whether or not a toe strike will hook less or a low strike will spin less.

 

If you were to get the most in depth fitting imaginable on your TS3 or whatever other driver and you're hitting the center of the face more consistently than anything else out there, then you have found a good fit for YOU but you have not found a more forgiving driver. I might absolutely HATE the way the G400 MAX sets up and I hit my M1 430 way more consistently but the MAX is still significantly more forgiving, I just don't swing it well because of subjective reasons.

Callaway Rogue is longer and straighter for me. Had the G400 Max and never could get it really dialed in.

If one can get passed the look of the club and just go by performance one might be surprised at what works,,,,,,,, for you. I DO get that some just cannot stand to look at a particular club behind the ball though. :dntknw: If you can't bear to look at it I get it.

 

 

... I wish as that makes the most sense. But I have been down this road a few times and in the end it just doesn't work for me. When playing well or even average the "ugly" club doesn't bother me at all. But once I start to hit a few bad shots the ugliness becomes front and center. Not really logical because of course I hit those same bad shots with a great looking club but the ugly club needs to overcome it's looks because deep down I really don't wanna play it when I know there are better looking options out there.

 

... Ping obviously is the most forgiving both in reviews and member testing as well as actual playing. I just don't liked Ping drivers so the Fly Z/F8 that spins a little less for me and looks and sounds great are the most forgiving and straightest drivers I have played. I really wanted to bag the F8+ this year as it looks perfect at address but alas I was not as accurate as I am with the F8.

According to 'Spy's website, the G400 Max is the most forgiving driver on the market since its MOI is rated at 5574 while the next most forgiving driver is about 8% less forgiving.

I really wanted to like the G400 Max. I must've tried it 10 times on a LM. Demoed it on course 2 different times. Just couldn't ever get comfortable with it. Ended up with a TS3 as it's the only one I found that gave me more distance. That being said, I generally hit the ball pretty straight and in the middle of the face. My miss tends to be in the middle of the face high up. I'm sure if my miss was more lateral I would've made a different choice. 80% of WRX posters can't be wrong.

If you can't hit the m4/m5 series drivers from tm then you might not need a driver in you bag, I've got them all they are easy to hit and built the the dreaded of the toe hits with the thicker toe and twist face

Once I got the right shaft in it, the 565 I upgraded to earlier this year has been really straight. I have to really put a bad swing on it to miss a fairway.
