Most Forgiving Bag

Recommended Posts

Current 11 hcp golfer from Australia here. Aim for 2019 is to consistently (or at least frequently) break 80. Whats the most forgiving bag you can think of to help me achieve my goal, as consistency is definitely my biggest problem. Comments about course management and lesson aren't needed as they are being addressed and arent fun.

Thoughts so far

Ping G Max (cut to 44.5)

5 Wood (thinking any titleist)

4-7 Iron Cobra One length

7-GW of Varible length cobra

Ping eye Sand

Ping Glide Lob ES

Putter (Evnroll Mallet?)

Whats everyones thoughts?

Very keen on at least getting a one length long iron as a fairway finder?

If that was my goal(seems like should be tho), I'd go with;

G MAX

G 4 wood

G 4 Hybrid

I500 5-P

Any wedge that I can use(because personally I don't believe in forgiving wedge)

Also putter that I like most(I used to have Evnroll and liked it but I can putt better with current one)

Good luck with your goal.

I'd go all Ping G series for your bag with the G400 Max as your driver.

I agree, taking lessons and learning the game isn't fun, but then again, doesn't the other things in life that a lot of people want (money, power) is worth getting without making sacrifices and doing things that most people won't?

10.5 deg Titleist 905R with stock UST Proforce V2 Shaft (Stiff flex)
Titleist 990 (3-PW) with stock Dynamic Gold in S300
Taylormade V-Steel 5W & 3W with Grafalloy Prolaunch Red shafts (Regular Flex)
2011 Adams Tom Watson signature wedges in 52 and 56 degrees with stock steel shafts (Player's Grind)
Rife Island Series Aruba Blade Putter

"Loft for loft, length for length, and shaft for shaft, the ball will go the same distance when hit on the sweet spot regardless how old the iron."

11hcp here who used to live in Australia (though I didn't golf then). Miss Sydney very much. Lived there for 5 years.

Anyways, our hcp system shuts down over winter despite there being courses open so my hcp is likely high single digits as I break 80 pretty consistently now. My thoughts are the most forgiving clubs are the ones that are fit to you and the ones that you're used to. The Titleist 915 D2, which I see you have, is incredibly forgiving and finds fairways for me. Not the longest but long enough and straight. I swapped my 3 wood to a 5 wood as it's more functional for me. Switching to a mallet made a huge difference in putting. Switching to Ping Glide 2.0 wedges also made a huge difference for me. If you want to consistently break 80 I wouldn't switch your whole bag out. Practice your 2 putting and practice your awkward wedge distances. Pretty much if you keep the ball in play off the tee, advance the ball with smart iron choices, get your wedges dialled, and 2 putt with the odd 1 putt you will break 80.

Thanks for the ideas. Seems like everyone agrees ping leads the way for forgiveness. A friend has a set of G25 irons and they are very easy to hit and the short irons with the fat sole make bump and runs easy as well.

Surprised no comments on the one lengths. There are a lot on eBay but that could be for a bad reason.

If that sig is your current bag, for someone who plays off an 11, all things being equal you don't need anything more "forgiving" than the z745s.

7-PW - unless you just like them more - the z7s will give you all the help you'd need, compared to whatever else.

If you are not sure 4-6, get hybrids, but otherwise I really think you don't need to do anything with the irons.
