For those of you that use such an app with GPS, which one do you recommend? Thanks.

I highly suggest Game Golf. It is 100% free and you don’t need to purchase the accessory. I just downloaded Grint and Game Golf is much better IMO. Also, it does advanced strokes gained analysis

Okay, the Grint looks nicer than 18Birdies, but gives you a lot less features for free. If I actually paid for the app I would use it. However, there is really no reason to, so 18Birdies wins in my book.

    Now trying Game Golf.

I hate how the grint doesn't automatically move to the next hole when I put in my score! Seems like literally the first thing to code.

    If score input

    Then move to next hole

I use the paid version of The Grint. Thing I like about it the most is one can input a lot of data for a given hole very quickly. Not sure exactly how it stacks up to other apps but even if I'm a hot mess on a hole I can input all the data quick and know that my stats will reflect accordingly before moving on to the next hole.

Totally agree. The Grint has the best user interface for very quickly entering data on a hole. It's extremely efficient in its design. Whip out the phone walking off the green and takes just a few seconds.

Hey Rudea80, how do you enter scores etc on game golf if you don't have a device. I poked around and definitely couldn't figure it out. Thanks if you can point me in the right direction!

You can use the phone app manually, or can link a smartwatch. The Pebble app was a little flaky, however.

mScorecard is my favorite of these. Good web interface too. You need to actually map each course for the GPS to work, though, unless someone else has done it for you already.

Just discovered a new Strokes Gained: Putting app on the App Store call TruPutt.

Easy to use, straightforward display of stats via tables and charts, ability to save stats for any round.

Also calculates a Putting Handicap Index; the calculation is explained on the website:

Not to be disparaging, because it looks like they put some time into their website (it has quotes!) and the presentation/look of the app, but this whole app looks like a bunch of fluff built around some very

simple math and a couple charts. Strokes gained putting isn't rocket science. You need exactly 2 pieces of information: A. Distance of first putt from hole B. Number of putts. Plug those numbers into

    a chart.

Here's the same stuff for free on a website: https://www.golfrankingstats.com/strokes-gained-calculator/

But hey, if they can get people to pay $5 for it, then more power to them.

Another user of the paid version of Grint. It's not perfect, but much better than anything else I've tried. I'd like to see more options for drives, not sure what is more important to capture on missed drives, distance or left / right. I'd like the ability to specify I missed short left, long right, etc. Otherwise it's a great app, never crashes and provides great stats both on the app and on their website.

You start by saying 'not to be disparaging', then proceed to do just that. To each his own, but the ability to calculate and store strokes gained:putting for all my rounds, plus seeing that information for 5 different distance ranges is useful to me. In addition, I think that the putting handicap index idea is kinda cool.

Also, I'm sure many players lose more than $5/round on their bets, and don't realize it's more than likely due to their poor putting rather than ball striking.
