What age does putting and short game kick in for girls?

I see many girls at young age (7 and under) struggle with short game and putting even if they hit the ball well

Is that just a maturity issue and do they eventually improve a lot in short time when older?

Is putting and chipping just come naturally or is it a learned skill?

Is it easier to improve full swing or short game or putting when older (which is most important to have as foundation in younger ages)?

I think some kids are just born with good feel and others have to learn it. You will see some kids at very young ages who have great short games and that is just pure god given ability. Others it will take awhile for them to learn. Usually the ones with the great short games don’t hit the ball as well as the other kids with bad short games. Maturity helps because that is when the kids start to see what part is their game is holding them back. Most kids want to play or hit the driver. Very few want to grind and work on short game. That comes with age and maturity. One piece of advice that I was told by a college coach. Make the kids work on as many things as possible that involve touch that aren’t golf related. Pitch quarters against a wall. Play corn hole and horseshoes. These things will teach feel and carry over to the golf course without them knowing it.

Short games come and go. It is just something that is not mastered until they stop growing. You can have touch and feel but if your getting stronger every month it is tough to have the. Confidence.

I generally see kids who have not reached puberty or are small have better short games in girls 10-12. The ones growing an inch a month struggle with their short game. The smaller kids though may win a lot at this age but once the courses get long are going to struggle for sure.

To me the kids who win at all events at an early age are the bigger kids. They are simpler stronger and turn the courses into a pitch and putt. The smaller kids have to have good short games just to compete.

I agree. It still comes down to having a great short game. These big kids are driving next to the greens and the winner is getting it up and down for better than par.

I am GenX.  If you really think I care about what you have to say, I don't.

Seriously? Something like a strong short game doesn't just 'kick in' without tons of hard work and practice. Yes, some kids naturally have really good feel and touch. Let's meet up and I will introduce you to one.

We’ve already met many times S

My question was in regards to kids who aren’t naturals like B but develop short game and putting later

I guess my question is are putting and shirt game less dependent on innate talent than other parts of golf game (like full swing)

Seems like it could be learned skill to be very proficient

Maybe to be elite takes great naturally ability

But to just avoid 3 putts and get up and down 2/3 of time from around green seems achievable with lots of practice and repetition

What you think?

This is kinda creepy.

Especially if k doesn't know who you are.

S (not K) knows who I am IRL

Which is why I was disappointed that he was rude to me on this forum so many times

I don't know what age it kicks in but I think at the 7-9 it is the ones that practice the most that are the best at it...I know that sounds like a revelation but I think the ones that are obsessed with the game at a young age are the best at it. At some point the rest have to realize themselves that it takes a lot of work to improve and the kid has to be willing to put in the time and effort. Not saying that is right or wrong but seems to be what I see or you have to have patience until it does kick in for your kid depending on when that may be and I don't think anybody knows.

not sure it kicks in unless you put hours and hours of work into it. Some will have more short game talent over others, while others have to work harder to try to keep up. Same with putting. But you can bust your tail feathers and get great at both if you put in the hours. I feel the same on the full swing.

I don't think you can just wait for it to kick in.
