New Titleist TS drivers

I just went and got fitted yesterday for a new driver.

Nothing else came close to the feel of the TS3. Almost had a heart attack when I ended up getting fitted into the KuroKage 60XT in X flex...talk about a sweet feeling shaft (and a hefty price tag)

I was amazed at how much of a difference in feel there was hitting shafts side by side.

I went in expecting to walk out with an M3, but I couldn’t consistently hit that thing to save my life. The twist face technology completely screwed with my head at address

Ultimately I walked out the door with an 8.5 TS3 set at the A1 (neutral) setting. I ponied up and got the KuroKage shaft because for me it was just that much better.

Between the topline looking more like a routed round edge and the toe looking horribly open, it just instilled very little confidence. I actually hit the M4 well, but the sound and look of the topline just didn’t sit well with me. Considering I’ve played Bridgestone and Titleist drivers for almost my whole playing career, the rounded edges of the Taylormade were harder to get used to than I thought

Still loving and killing my TS2 Once I got the settings right to neutralize the draw bias I can’t seem to miss a fairway. Hit it on the screws and I get great distance. Mishits are not as long but are still out there and in the fairway. For the first time in years my driver hoing is over. Loving my TS2 16.5 HL we also.

For me ball speed matters on launch monitors only and does not translate into on course performance. This year I have gamed the Rogue SZ, M3, M4, F8+ and new Srixon and none of them perform as well for me as the TS2. Not saying that ball speed is not important but rather that after trial and error theTS2 with Smoke is firmly entrenched

  • 1 month later...

tried the TS3 again today vs. the G400 Max. The Max was not an improvement for me over my Rogue. But I did get lower spin and slightly more distance with the TS3, and I found it to be very forgiving. My wife had huge improvement with the TS3/Tensei combo. Do you guys still like your TS3 or have you moved on to the newer drivers now coming out LOL

I havent tried the TS2 yet; is it that much "better" than the TS 3?

Neither is better than the other, but one might very much be better for you and your swing. The TS2 launched quite a bit higher for me in the same loft. I was fit into a TS3, but I have a very positive AoA. It is absolutely THE BEST driver I have ever played (played G400 LST this last year). Launch is up and spin is down, the ball just hangs in the air for days. TS3 gave me near perfect numbers for my SS and AoA. Try them both. The TS2 may work better for you.

When I went for my fitting - that’s what I found - the TS2 was better than the TS3 for me. The most interesting thing I found out was that I wasn’t spinning the ball enough with driver as of late - and was fit into a TS2 at 10.5.

I played at 10.5 for a long time and was then fit into 9.5 head about four years ago because I spun the ball way too much.

It’s amazing what happens to one’s swing over time.

I have had the TS3 with the smoke and before that the 917D3. The TS3 is far away an improvement, distance, feel and accuracy. I loved the 917D3, but I love the TS3 way more. My $.02.

I ended up with the TS3 and I think it was due to my AoA also. I am usually between 4 and 5 degrees up, I have in the past been as high as 7...the guy that was coaching me at the time couldn't figure out how I was able to hit it good and to be fair, on occasion I was definitely hitting the ground first. Anyway, on the TS3 I went from 9.5 in the 917D2 to 8.5 and find the TS3 more forgiving that the 917D2 which is an impressive thing to say in my opinion.

I bought my first Titleist driver since the 905R I’ve still got. Prior to that I had a 975. Since the 907 came out I just never got back on board. I play Titleist irons and wedges and have for years with exception of a few trials. I did decide to try the new Titleist and was really impressed. Titleist look and sound with legit distance. As it turned out I found it to be longer than anything I’ve hit. The launch and distance was perfect on an off the rack driver. I got 9.5 ts3 with Smoke. I had my Rogue SZ set at 10 and I launch the ts3 2* higher with the a perfect spin number for me of 2300.

I would look at multiple heads when you buy. I pulled 3 off the shelf and the face angle was slightly different with all 3. I bought the one that looked open. I imagine there are variances with all the drivers. But I never really noticed until now when I was buying.

Anyway I LOVE my new driver.

It just might be time to get a new driver.

I went to GG yesterday and spent an hour on the monitor hitting the TS2. The Kuro Kage seemed to be the best fit for me. I also hit the 917 and my 910 D2.

My swing is pretty in consistent right now, but what I saw was a slight gain in yaradsgw with the TS2 Kuro Kage combo over my 910.

After getting really loose and warmed up, I hit 3 balls with the 910 D2, 917, TS2 Kuro, TS2 Tensei Blue...

The result were the TS2 gave my the best numbers, followed closely by my 910.

While I wanted the TS3 to blow away my old 910 so I could get a new shiny toy, if I’m being honest I can’t justify spending 500 for a few more yards. It did reduce my spin numbers, but that didn’t seem to add enough forgiveness or length to justify the purschse.

Maybe I’m just used to my club since I’ve had it for so many years?

I’ll probably hold onto my 910 until I see a used TS2 with the right shaft for sale.

Club head speed increased 4 mph? Using the same shaft at the same length? That doesn’t make sense.

The TS is supposed to give better BALL speeds at the same Club head speed. If you gained that much club head speed it was certainly not the new club head. You were just swinging harder. The new head is more aerodynamic but no one is getting more than 1 mph extra CHS because of the new head shape alone.

In the end it doesn’t really matter because you’re hitting it better. Congrats.

Had my TS3 out for a proper spin yesterday and hugely pleased with it. After shaking off the rust I was able to do what I needed with the ball whether that was hold up a fade or turn one over. On the couple of poor hits that I caught off the bottom of the club I was still down where I would expect a good one to be. Looking forward to getting out there more with it.

As jag mentioned, 4mph solely on a different head sounds very unusual. But was this a "best effort" swing ? Or a consistent 4 mph increase ?

I ask because when my biomechanical stars (OK, body parts LOL) align I can actually see a 4 mph increase and roughly 10 yards more in carry with the same club. That's maybe 1 in 6 or 7 flush swings though, certainly not consistently.

BTW, how do you like that BB-6 shaft ? It sounds like something I'd really like, to cut down on launch and spin but I've never found one I could afford (they seem to hold their price very well) so I found a HZRDUS Black about 16 months ago. It works great but I still have that itch to try the BB-6. (Damned itches !!! LOL)

Could have been the launch monitor he used. Some prepopulate the smash factor and determine swing speed through the other variables. It assumes you hit the ball center area each time. So if you toe one at 100mph and then middle one at 100mph, the distances are different and it calculates that the swing speed is different. It has no idea one strike was better than another.

Seeing a 4mph swing speed increase could mean he was hitting the TS more in the center. Ball speeds will be accurate on these set ups, so if ball speed is high then you were more likely to have a center strike.

I do not post often but I felt the need to chime into this topic. I am a decent golfer on some days and Driver swing speed is 113-117. I have not played a Titleist driver since the 910 which was only around for a short while. They were just lacking ball speed and yards for me. I have been in TM Drivers for years and have had great luck. Last season went back and forth with M3&4 with my go to Tensei CK Pro White 70TX shaft. I have enjoyed the drivers and had a good driving year. With the new drivers coming out in 19' I have started my testing. I picked up a TS3 with the stock Evenflow White X, trimmed it to 44.75 playing length added heavier weight to have it D3. Color me impressed. The sound and feel is great, more forgiving than M3 by far. Distance is just as long as M series if not longer! Going to put Tensei in the TS and I will wager, be more impressed. Almost forgot to add, it just goes straighter.
