Spell Monterrey correctly.

Excellent - do as I say, not as I do :)

^No no :) I wasn't replying to you.

Outbackhack deleted his typo after pointing out yours... that's just cheating that is... that's the gotcha one I was enjoying.

Passionfish for the duck, if none of their daily/seasonal seafood specials are appealing.

Bistro Moulin another good dinner choice.

Get out early one morning and play the back nine at Pacific Grove.

That particular area, which shall go unnamed, is a fantastic part of the world. You're in for a great time.

Pacific Grove back 9 as of 60 minutes ago. It’s a gem of a course. The front side is ok but the back is where the glamour is. We also had breakfast at the Red Roof Inn, a little house someone put a restaurant in. Decent selection, decent prices. No matter what, you’re going to come out ahead playing out here.

If you are flying into San Francisco, take 380 from the airport to the “Great Highway” and have a look around, (Olympic Club through the trees, Sunset Beach, Golden Gate Park par 3, windmills) then drive down CA-1 to Monterey, about 2.5-3.5 hours. Pigeon Point Lighthouse is on that route as well. (Not the pictured lighthouse; that’s Point Pinos at Pacific Grove)

If it's your first time there, grab a drink at the Hog's Breath in Carmel, which was/is a tourist spot because Clint owned it, but I have always enjoyed it. A rare "tourist" place that is good.

Have fun, and give us a report for sure!

There are a lot of really good restaurants on the Monterey Peninsula.

The Tap Room at Pebble has really good steaks, prime rib chili with corn bread, Kobe burger and the chocolate sundae or Southern coconut cake. We just had the chili and Kobe burger again last week.

Sticks at Spanish Bay has blacken fish tacos that are very tasty.

Peppoli at Spanish Bay has a Tomahawk ribeye, Tuscan T-bone for 2, Pappardelle Bolognese that are really delicious.

La Mia Cucina in Pacific Grove for Italian

Compagno's Market & Deli in Monterey makes huge sandwiches

Mission Ranch is owned by Clint Eastwood and the food is good and you may see Clint if he's in town.

AW Shucks has good seafood and a huge cocktail menu.

Also the two that duffer987 mentioned.

It's also Dungeness crab season

If you like pubs there's The Crown and Anchor, Brophy's Tavern is where the caddies go during the AT&T.

If you want more suggestions pm me. My wife and I have dined at more than 50 restaurants on the Monterey Peninsula from inexpensive to fine dining.

Make sure you play Cypress. I’ll be there!

Soooo, we flew into San Jose and quickly made our way to Pacific Grove to get in 9 and I flew down there and we actually got in 18 on our first day, which was unexpected. Pacific Grove was a great warm up for the next few days. I can honestly say, I don't think I've ever played a course with two Par 3's as the first and second hold, quite interesting.

The next two days were just absolutely perfect weather playing Spyglass and Spanish Bay, played well at both, they were just stunning all the way around. Saturday we played Pebble in the worst possible weather ever. 40-50mph gusts, constant pouring rain and it felt like it never got above 45 degrees. Even though the terrible conditions, we couldnt help but realize how special that golf course is.

Overall, the week was great and I apprieciate all of yall's suggestions. I was able to do most of the things that were suggested and my buddies all wondered how I knew so much about the general area, all thanks to you guys.

Thanks again!

That's a little bit of the weird thing when they re-routed Pacific Grove's front nine. The original clubhouse is the building down at the corner where you walk from 5 to 6. It's a Meals on Wheels facility now. So, I think the original routing would have been a figure 8 where you would start on 6, play through 9 would have been 3, and then came in to 5 where it would have originally finished. With the back 9 being over Asilomar Ave. clearly that wouldn't have worked. And, I totally agree the way they have it now with 2 par 3's, then 2 par 4's and then 2 par 5's is kind of weird. Although it looks like the original routing would have been 3 par 3's in a row. Must have been some changes when they re-routed it. I have played several H. Chandler Egan layouts and I like his work, but that one is definitely unique.
