All the above is spot on.

Another consideration: Bring your own booze. The rooms are nice. When I took a guys trip there, we basically had a floor to ourselves. We opened our doors up and had a floor party. Different drinks in each room. Nothing crazy.

Of course we bought some drinks and food on site, but it was pricey. We were all glad we had our options as well.

as said, bring whatever it is you might want, cause it is out in the middle of nowhere ... snacks/booze/etc ... all are great courses, though the black is a bit more unconventional due to its greens, so don't go in there expecting conventional holes/putting results ... even if you have a forecaddie, buy a yardage book and look at it before every hole ... (that should be the case for anyone at a course they've previously not played) ... they have a spa on site, so a soak in the hot tub (and the cold tub) will feel great after 18 or 36 holes ...

1. Be sure to save some daylight one day to spend ample time on the putting course at Black. It’s super fun.

2. Definitely bring some snacks/beverages. It’s roughly 30-40 min drive to get to anything resembling a town with reasonable food options. The food onsite is decent, but expensive for pretty small portions.

3. Just as a heads up, you cannot take a cart without a forecaddie. We had planned to walk everyday, but between scheduling and arriving one of our friends had knee surgery. We were surprised when we switched to taking a cart for him. If you’re already planning a caddie or planning to walk then you’re all good.

It’s a great facility and three great courses. You’re gonna love it.

Each course has a unique half-way house (bbq, tacos, etc) hit them up for the experience. Do dinner at Red/Blue clubhouse instead of hotel. I think it has better food/vibe.

Foreplay has a decent podcast... if you like those guys take a listen. They suggest getting cocktails at clubhouse instead of course.

I am heading there on Wednesday to play Black and gonna listen to Erik Anders Lang interview with Gil Hanse on my flight down. Fired up

Make sure you understand where the green ends and the fringe begins on the Black. They do a terrible job of explaining that and it can get very confusing because the grass is the same and it's hard to tell the difference. Alot of the reports of people 4/5 putting comes from putting from what is not actually green where u have the option to hit any shot.

Do you not have the option to hit any shot from the actual green?

Yes I suppose you do but the next time I see someone chip a shot from the green will be the first time.

Black course is simple. The grass that is the shortest is all green, everything else is fairway. What you read above is not the case when it comes to determining if your on the green or off. It's all green!!

Unless it's changed since last time I was there (or it's different in certain parts of the year when the grasses grow more aggressively) this is not true. When I was there the surrounds and fringe were marked by being behind a series of green dots that marked off the green space. They grassed the surrounds in the same kind of grass as the greens (which is different from the fwy grass) to try to make them firm and fast and as a result they look like the greens not the fwy when in fact the whole area is not green. I was there a year ago Jan 2018. I've also discussed this w one of the guys who worked on building the course w Gil Hanse.

Black course is my favorite there because of the ambiguity. The fairway just melts into the green. So many options. To me, the Black course is the Old MacDonald of the East.

The green dots that were spray painted to determine the fringe/green line are no longer there it's just all played as putting green now

Is there an obvious transition from the fairway grass to the green grass?

The putting surface has special status in the rules (lifting, wrong green, etc) so knowing what is and what isn't the green matters.

Interesting. Can't say I'm surprised they made alsmot no effort to explain this to players and it was very confusing. Playability wise it's too bad I'll have to get back down there and see for myself but I think this is probably a negative change overall.

The transition from fairway to green is as obvious as any other course would be. Fairway grass probably cut to half an inch and greens are about .100 of an inch.

played it this summer ... didn't seem to me to be confusing as to where the fairway ended and the green began ... regardless, that wouldn't impact a score ...

Looking to plan my 2020 Buddies Trip here.... of all the Florida golf it looks pretty unique. I went to Cabot Cliffs this past fall and it certainly has that feel since they share designers.

Is there any other FLA locations you'd recommend before Streamsong?

Thanks all....

For FLA there should be nothing else in consideration above Streamsong.

I went to Streamsong a few months ago. Good golf but I was slightly underwhelmed by it. No denial the golf was good but I did not think it was any better then most of the good spots out there. Literally nothing else to do

I think for a good buddies trip I would do PGA National before it. Have done both I thought PGA National was a better deal and more fun overall trip. Lots to do around there. Palm Beach Par 3 is worth a play too final day there.

Buddies trip to Kiawah and rent a house even better

Nothing at Streamsong wow'd me like I wanted it to, but it didn't dissappoint either. Perhaps it's all in the expectations I had, but we did definitely all enjoy ourselves. Couple of thoughts are:

The hotel is a convention factory, so its crowded no matter if its off season. The golf courses were not as crowded as the hotel.

The food is pretty decent and not overly jacked up. Clubhouse at Red/Blue has better food, best bar is at Black.

Staff was very friendly, and helped us navigate what bars/restaurants were open what days

Golf wise, the Blue course was a blast to me. The red was noticeably more difficult for me at least off tee. Black was a wild ride and very challenging, played it twice and thoroughly enjoyed it. The putting course was a huge let down for us.

Rooms are top notch.
