TP5 in yellow

Hmm. I’ve never heard anything but odd. They look legit aside from the box having a bunch of Chinese writing on it.

Could be an offering for the Asian market?

I wonder if TM will bring this state side with Titleist having a ProV1 yellow next year.

Asia has always taken to the colored golf balls. I could see that being legitimate. Don't think it would be a big seller in the States.

You would be surprised how many crap volvic vivids get sold simply because " i like the color".. the US likes them as well.

The TP5 in yellow has nowhere to go but up up up. More and more players are playing the colored stuff nowadays. I won't say it's a half half split from white to colored products down here in San Diego but, it is easily at least 1/3 players using a yellow, orange, or truvis style ball. That being said, when I was in New Hampshire this past August, it was all white. I was the only person I saw after playing about 10 rounds with a yellow or orange ball. But, up there, no one really plays Taylormade balls. It's a titleist monopoly up there with them being manufactured in MA as well as Snell and cheaper balls.

I think that Taylormade has nothing to lose. I'd game it as long as I knew the cover were better than the original TP5 / TP5X because that is garbage.

Covers for standard white are trash. Got 6 dozen on eBay, tp5x. Every shot with spin leaves my ball looking like it went through a whole round ...inside a blender.

Hmm. I've had good luck with mine. Even when I got a tree or cart path it's ok. You must have some serious grooves

It was probably grooves. Had new hi toes at the time.

They seem better than trash now :) sorry for the dramatics.

Still get scruffy quick imo, but overall a solid ball/cover

Maybe you bought refurbs or counterfeits from the bay because what you’re describing seems unusual based on other users’ experiences.

ONOFF Labospec 358 — Tour AD TP6
Titleist TS2 16.5* — Kuro Kage XM 80
Justick Proceed 21* UT — Nippon GOST
Mizuno MP-20 HMB/MB— MITSUBISHI MMT 105/125
Mizuno T20 50* and 55* — MITSUBISHI MMT 125
Seven ST 61* Black Boron — MCI Black 125 “mild”

Incorrect. Many upon many are stating the covers finish / paint is garbage. TM even refinished their covers and made a special note of it in the 2019 TP5 / X flyer posted on this forum.

Now, this is it to say the urethane layer itself is garbage. It’s that micromillimeter if white paint that is covering said layer that is trash.

I personally wouldn’t be using a TP5 more than 9 holes and that was if I was extremely lucky.

It’s not just the newness of your club that can slice a ball with grooves. Though that is definitely a factor. But if you’re steeper and hit down a lot more as opposed to being a shallower / sweeper attack will be friendlier to the finish.

Either way, hoping these yellow ones make it state side with the new finish.

They might be done at retail in Japan. The TP5 are no longer available in yellow on the TM Japan web site. However they are still listed on the USGA/R&A conforming ball list as of 11/6/19 list. That could change at any time.

They gotta keep pace with market demand. I’m really surprised yellow wasn’t released with the 2019 TP5 release. I think TM held off a yellow ball so they could promote the Pix ball.

The Asian market is basically a nice beta tester for the international market.

Indirectly, the yellow cover already exists. Project A, if I’m not mistaken is the same cover as TP5. The thickness obviously changes and all the layers underneath are altered for TP5. But that dimple design and pattern is the same if I’m not mistaken.

Over 90% of all balls sold are white and I’d imagine that percentage increases when isolating to only multilayer urethane. The relatively low demand has made development of this a lower priority.

Producing cast thermoset urethane covers in something other than white is much more difficult than injection molded TPU hence the reason why Titleist and TaylorMade have been late to the game with yellow urethane vs ionomer models which they have offered for years.
