Odd not seeing Speith's name in there this year, especially since he destroyed this course a few years ago to finish -30 after 4 rounds. But then again I guess that's what happens when you can make a highlight reel for all the putts he missed last year from 5ft and in.

Was watching a golf digest video where DJ busted Sky Sports myth that he spends hours hitting wedges on the range....saying he spends 90 minutes max and prefers to play.

I'm trying to control distance as best I can, and this type of practice builds confidence. If you want to score, these are the shots that are going to help the most."

Yeah sorry I meant to put "hours on the range practicing" he does say it's his wedges that he'll spend the time on and he does as much as he needs to.

 

Sky coverage every week he's teeing it up goes on about how he practices with TrackMan on the range as if he does it for hours. GC coverage when I'm in the States isn't quite so misleading about his practice routine.

 

I love the fact that he prefers to play rounds rather than spend time on the range. So refreshing to hear honesty about doing what you need to do and no more.

 

He's not a great interview but that was an interesting five minutes chat about what he does etc.

Played the Plantation Course over Thanksgiving and there were some holes where the greens were spotty. Want to say it was 14 or 16 where it was pretty bad. With renovations starting in Feb they weren’t going to do too much to the course

Played Kapalua a couple of years ago. It’s the perfect course for Cameron Champ to destroy. He’ll win by 5.

According to the people I played with new greens and fairway grass (variants of Bermuda) and refresh of bunkers and new tee boxes. Think renovations being led by Crenshaw.

Last 3 years the winner has been the best on the Par 4s

 

Dustin Johnson: 10.9 strokes gained, next closest was 4.9

Justin Thomas: 10.2, next closest 5.2

Jordan Spieth: 8.8, next closest 5.8

But me - one or two eyes on the laptop. Nope, Koepka doesn't move the needle for me. Love the views on the course/elevations/ocean - that's mostly why'll I'll watch. I ease into the season.
