I shortened my Driver and found it to be incredibly helpful for consistency. Maybe you’re on to something.

For me Driver=43.25" and 3 wood=42.5"

Didnt lose any noticeable distance just much better control of the club head. My wrist to floor indicates i should be playing "standard" length clubs. Also my irons are all 1/2" short of "standard"

Just have to remember to add weight/lead tape to clubs when you shorten them or else you will screw up your swing weight potentially creating new problems. My driver has about 1 nautical mile of lead tape on it. enough to where it completely change the way it sounds/feels.

What good is that extra 2mph club head speed when you hit it off the toe/heel/bottom?

If I carry a 3 wood, it would be 42.5. I carry a 4 wood and it is 41.5 inches.

I just switched to a shorter 3w shaft playing at 42.25" from 43.5" and noticed better control almost instantly after adding the requisite lead tape. Driver plays at 44.5", which was also down from the 45.5" stock length driver I used to hit so I figured I would try the same with the fairway.

Good stuff guys. I currently play my driver at 45" and have not had any issues hitting it. Also I have half the backside of my 4 wood lead taped lol. The 3 wood IMO feels really heavy to begin with but I'm getting continental golf to check swing weights after.

You’ve been on this site 7 years and have more than 2 dozen BST transactions and you don’t have a SW scale yet??

Come on now. Every equipment junkie needs a SW scale.

Every purchase I make goes straight on the scale. You wouldn’t believe what you find sometimes.

I feel like SW is too limited. There's so many factors that go into it. Grip weight, how counterweighted a shaft is, etc. Clubs can be the same SW and feel totally different and vice versa

The vast majority of my purchases were 5-6 years ago then I was injured and am now finally rehabbing that injury. The itch for new equipment is coming back lol. Then I was 18-19 working part time in college and now I have a full time job, I can imagine I'll be buying much more.

While I agree with you in general, grip weight and shaft type can easily be taken into account when analyzing a club and it’s swingweight.

Anyone doing any significant amount of clubmaking and home tinkering should have a Swingweight scale. It is absolutely critical for proper club making.

I never did any real club making. I liked to try different clubs that's about it. I worked at a country club and would use their stuff to replace grips, change lofts, and check swing weight.

Sure. Makes sense. Even if not making clubs regularly, I would advise anyone that enjoys trying clubs bought off the internet or second hand in general, to invest in a SW scale and a 48 inch rigid clubmaking ruler. An electronic kitchen scale for 10 bucks is a nice idea too.

It is very common to get second hand clubs that aren’t stock and sometimes the sellers don’t even know it.

Driver 43.5

3 wood 42

5 wood 41.5

5'7"

I'm a very big fan of hotmelt and lead tape. ; )

At your height it's no wonder you think all drivers are too long!

I'm 6' 4" and have two 3-woods I alternate between, one is 43.75"/15* the other is 44 1/4"/14*.

Justin Rose plays 43.5" 3 wood.

Being a +1.6 handicap you could most likely play a 44" 2by4 and hit it better than me lol.

Agree'd you can get a value SW scale that is fairly accurate for 125 bucks......it is a necessity for a club ho
