Best Mizuno Blades

I am thinking about getting some Mizzy blades to replace my almost worn out MP-60. I see some great value items in the second hand market so wanted to see which Mizuno MB irons are worth considering as I might not be able to test them first before purchase. Thanks in advance!

I went from MP 60s to a mixed set of MP H5/25/5. Generally, I find the 5s in the 6-PW to play pretty similarly to the way the 60s played. Can't comment on the longer irons, though. But, I agree with Warrick that the 5s are pretty darn forgiving for a blade and that would be my suggestion if you're looking for a full set of blades. Another option would be the MP 32s (they have the same cut muscle as the 60s) if you can find a set in good shape.

I love my MP18 MMCs. I would highly recommend hitting them first though. Maybe you can find them new somewhere and demo them before purchasing them used.

4's feel

5's forgiveness

18's looks

I have not played older Mizzy blades.

Nailed it. I am not a great striker and the 5s are playable.

These.

Also, for older models, 32's are beloved, and 33's but not as forgiving.

Of the muscleback MP’s, I rank the 5’s most forgiving, with the 69’s next. I can’t really handle a full set of blades so I typically sub out the 4 and 5 irons. Of the MP CB’s, my favorites are the 53 and then the 59. The MP53 long irons have a deep/low COG and for me launch like the MP18 MMC Fli-Hi’s.

I am a big fan of the 14s and 4s. That said, my current gamers are the 18s and I’m not sure how they could be improved upon. Looks and feel are too notch and they might be the best at address and through the turf.

They really nailed the transition from 8-pw for the 18’s. They look incredible at address!

I agree with this as well. feel of the 4's may be the best they've ever done. The 5's although not all that much different looking seem to be playable to so many more golfers. may be your best bet

The MP 60 has a very low center of gravity. If you really like them, I'd try to hunt down another set of them. If not, the next 4 lowest center of gravity MP's among newer offerings are:

- MP 54

- MP 53

- MP 4

- MP 64

Low CG will encourage a higher ball flight with less spin. Low CG also tends to feel better for "pickers" who don't hit down forcefully. I don't know anything about the OP's game but these I think would tend to play the most similar to the 60.

Going back further, two blades that have lower CG than the MP-60 are the MP-33 and the MP-14, both very highly regarded offerings from Mizuno. Coincidence?

You are right. I don't create huge divots. So i should test out irons that have low cg after reading what you have advised. Where can i find out cg comparison charts for Mizuno irons?

Look at the column "actual VCOG".

I don't pay attention to the overall MPF rating at all but certain individual measures like the VCOG and the MOI are useful.

Interesting that the MP-18 SC, which many complain is pretty tough to hit, has the highest VCOG of any Mizuno iron.

Yeah. I realize MPF is highly controversial on here, but I've found it to be pretty accurate in terms of what I've hit. That said, I find my i200 as forgiving as GI irons and they are rated in the mid 400s.

I find MPF spot on for when buying wood shafts, especially when you can't test them out.

Picked up a set of MP-68s recently with ProjectX 5.5 shafts. So good, they kicked my MP-14s to the curb (currently in the BST)

How are the 32s for having a touch of forgiveness mixed in? A nice 2-PW set near me for cheap I'm thinking of grabbing as a back up set/improver set.

Get 'em while you can! They are beautiful, easy to hit, feel great and look sweeeeeet! I sold my beat-up set when I moved to the MP-4s, which I'll never sell. The most beautiful and best-feeling set of irons I've ever come across.
