He doesn't want to tell the world as it's early days but he knows for the next 8 months he wants to stay near home...as a relatively newly wed couple this would make sense, well as much as all the other theories anyway!

    Hmmmmmm

And whose wife are we talking about? Pray tell!

Lol, how can he play for the Euros in the RC? Isn't it a sham to do that? I think you need to have gained US citizenship before you're 18 to be on the US team. It would be great to change that rule and poach Rory over.

We trade Patrick Reed for Rory McIlroy straight up.

You better sit down. I'm afraid I have some bad news about the Sabbitini version of Rory.

Hasn't played a shot yet and he's already the greatest Slovak golfer of all time.

European Tour can't fix it because Fed Ex is putting $15m into their cup and no sponsor in the world exists that will put more money into another golf Tour.
Actually Fed Ex is doubling the FEC prize pool to $70 million dollars next year. $15 million to the winner.

Remember when Rory gave up PGA Tour membership and skipped the Players?

    yep

    https://www.pga.com/rory-mcilroy-might-not-play-2011-players-championship-focus-europe

Of course, with the way the PGA Tour and European Tour have set their schedules it should be easier for players to play in the US January-June plus the playoffs in August and get their minimum tournaments to play in Europe.

I think the real issue is that Rory saw what the Saudis were willing to pay Tiger to show up for their event (roughly the same amount as the entire purse of the British Masters) and he wants that rate.

When McIlroy skipped the Players, he won a major, in fact he's won more majors with more of a European focus than he has in recent years with more of a PGA focus. It's money speaking rather than what is 'good for his game'.

Just feel like as soon as Rory's put in a corner, he kind of lashes out and says something rashly. Was the same with the Olympics, Ryder Cup and now the European Tour. Six months later he'll say 'oh I regret that'...then he does it again.

I mean if it comes to September and he's feeling fresh and decides to play on the European Tour, he'll look silly for bringing all this doubt on himself. This is the year where The Open is at Royal Portrush as well, I would have thought he would have wanted to keep his home people happy, but obviously not.

    What Rory could have said:

"I've had a great time starting on the European Tour in recent years but I've decided to go down a different path at the start of this one. The way the schedule is set with the PGA in May and 3 majors here, I've decided to focus on the US for the first half of the year, I'm sure you'll understand that's best for my game.

After that, I haven't made my schedule yet but I look forward to the Open coming to Northern Ireland greatly and intend to come home for a few weeks to prepare. Once the Fed Ex Cup season is finished I will finalise my schedule for the end of the year."

Watching him interviewed yesterday, he's seemingly lost about 80% of his Irish accent.

Not his fault. Many gradually lose native accent if they constantly talk to/hear other accents.

Whenever I hang out with/speak to southerners, Ill start to catch myself doing it.

In order to win at Augusta, you must also sound like you're from there.

Ah reckon you got something there. But Ian Poulter's accent hasn't changed a bit.

That's why Poulter beats his chest so much, beats out any new twang which might change his accent.

As many suspected, Rory did file to be a member of the European Tour for 2019 by the May 1 deadline.

So he likely plays Omega European Masters and BMW Wentworth or Dunhill Links thats the two events he needs.

No. He still needs to play 4 ET events not 2 to keep his ET membership. It's explained in the article linked above and copied below.

**The four-time major winner will be required to play four events outside of the major championships and the World Golf Championship events.

Because he had not yet joined the European Tour, McIlroy's appearances in the WGC-Mexico Championship, the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play Championship and the Masters will not count toward the Race to Dubai standings.

McIlroy is likely to play the Scottish Open prior to The Open at Royal Portrush, as well as the BMW PGA Championship in September at Wentworth, which kicks off the qualifying period for the 2020 European Ryder Cup team.

The Northern Irish golfer would then be required to add two more events on the European Tour schedule before the end of 2019**

I was referring to the two additional events he needs but I didn't quite get that the article assumed that the BMW Wentworth was already part of his plans. So he needs 3 events post-FedEx Cup playoffs basically and they are assuming BMW Wentworth is one. I understand he is playing Omega European Masters immediately after the Tour Championship so he needs to commit to one more event if this is all correct.
