Given the OP isn't being accurate about the discussion on GC hate to participate further, BUT . . .

To Basic - I read your first set of putting stats and kept wondering what about inside 3 feet and BOOM can't believe how horrible it is.

Would like to hope it's an anomaly but there seems to be more of a trend and not a good one.

Hoping it's all mental and he figures it out, he's too good.

This is a joke, the man won almost 2.8 million putting as bad as he did and you think he is finished? What would he have made or won putting average?

If his putting comes back then he will win a lot more comps. If not he will make a lot of money but need to get the ball in play more often. Johnny Miller said he was a 60th on the money list player if his putting deteriorated. So much young talent out there that winning is going to get harder and harder.

And Johnny is always right. Right ?

I hope he wins more, but who knows. I (and probably most) wouldn't have thought Rory would still be stuck on 4 majors 4 years later.

Also, other than Tiger, who else has really sustained streaks of winning multiple majors over several years? 2015-2017 Spieth (3 in 3 years) and 2011-2014 McIlroy (4 in four years) is similar to what other players have ended with (Nick Price, Padriaig Harrington). Mickelson also won 3 in 3 years (2004-2006) and then happened to pickup a couple more random ones along the way (arguably, he could have a few more that would put him at the Arnold/Watson/Player level).

Did Spieth and Rory start with more talent? Probably and one would think they'd each get at least another one. For Spieth, I do wonder if there is going to be a new wave of players that all hit it like Cameron Champ (i.e. Tiger 20+ years ago) that changes the game/courses again. If so, it could become harder for Spieth to consistently compete in the big ones.

I think it is more interesting to see if a) Spieth, Rory, or Koepka can really add many major wins to move up the all-time great list (and Career Slam for Spieth and Rory) and b) who of DJ, Jason Day, or JT can get more (all former #1, dominated for a year or so, but only have 1 major. Maybe add Justin Rose here although I don't think he ever really played as well as these other guys).

Definitely not done but expectation is unrealistically high because he had such an amazing run so early in his career. I was watching him and admiring it but at the same time wondering when he was going to cool off. Currently #17 OWGR, I'd be surprised if he doesn't maintain a top 20 ranking.

He could have won the Masters last year, except he hit a terrible tee shot on 18. Which speaks to the fact that he hits some terrible tee shots for a major champion.

Let's say that the practice area at Royal Birkdale was out of bounds (which it most certainly will be the next time that Birkdale holds the tournament). If he can't take the drop over in the practice area, and has to play from 2 club lengths, or go back and re-tee, I don't think he wins - and Kuchar doesn't lose momentum.

He may be a good iron player, but his driving is suspect; hence my low expectation of more majors.

Unseen, in the background, Fate was quietly slipping the lead into the boxing-glove.  P.G. Wodehouse

The real question,

Is Morning Drive done ? Yes or No ?

And if No, Why Not ???

I hope not

Well.... :)

Sometimes during the offseason the issues are a bit forced....I mean you got to find something to talk about right?

Overall you guys do a great job, it's gotta be hard to find something interesting to talk about in the golf world year round, let alone The first week of the year.

Ya, the putting inside 3ft is important because it must sap confidence when those gimmees arent automatic.

If you dig down, and in fairness to JS, even at being ranked 181st on tour from inside 3ft

JS still made 98.79% of those putts.

He made 727 out of 736. So he missed 9 putts over the course of the whole season. It's important but who can say how important. There were 7 guys who made 100% of putts inside 3ft and I don't think any of them won last year either. But if you look at Rory and even TW, both only missed one single putt from inside 3ft so it means something.

The thing that hurts him most is the long range putting slide.

2015 putting:

15-20ft, 2nd

20-25ft, 1st

2016 putting:

15-20ft, 3rd

20-25ft, 3rd

2017 putting:

15-20ft, 34th

20-25ft, 3rd

2018 putting:

15-20ft, 183rd

20-25ft, 169th

In 2015, JS, had 147 putts from 15-20ft. He made 41. That's about 28%

In 2018, he had 154 putts from 15-20ft. He made 21. That's about 14%

And anecdotally, in that awesome 2015 season, it seemed every time he need a big long range putt, he made it.

I posted he was done last year at this time .. then he should've shot an easy 62 in round 4 and won the Masters
