Winter golf jacket

Recommended Posts

I am looking for a winter golf jacket that I can wear in temps around 35 to 45 degrees with wind. I live in MA so winters are relatively long and cold but try to get out with my buddies every 2 weeks until the season starts as long as the courses aren’t covered in snow.

I am looking at proquip tour flex quilted and the Sunice Hamilton hybrid. I would like to find a jacket that I can wear over a base layer and be warm all day. Any suggestions would help or if anyone has feedback on the two I have narrowed down.

If you can find the Ping Norse, go for that. I have played in 40 degree temps with only a golf shirt on underneath. It’s a very warm jacket but also very easy to swing a golf club while wearing the jacket. I had to order mine from a UK retailer.

Here is the link where I got my jacket:

Taylormade M1 10.5*

Callaway XR 19*
Taylormade p790 5-P,A

Look up the winter jackets thread- its probably a few pages back on this subforum-lots of reviews on different jackets.

The best I have is the Ping Norse-way warner than anything else, but expensive.

I also have a Pro quip Therma Pro, which is a quilted vest with windproof sleeves. Very easy to swing in and warm enough in that temp range with a good base layer but the arms are going to be colder. Probably more of a 40-50 degree jacket. I think it is pretty similar to the tour flex quilted but I bought mine from golf support and had it shipped to the US because it was cheaper

There are some reviews of the Sunice I think in the other thread. Another Sunice option is the Franz, which is for colder temps

This Callaway jacket happens to be on sale for 50% off today at dillards- along with some other callaway golf items

It was reviewed by several members in a giveaway a few months ago that can be found in the tour/pre-release subforum. Many seemed to like it but noted it needed a base layer because it didn't block wind well. Pretty cheap price though so may be worth a try

Here is a link to the Callaway apparel review thread:

It is also available in a vest version and big and tall sizes. All 50% off today

I played in 40-45 degrees with 10-15 mph winds last week. Had on UA Base Layer 3.0, a golf polo and the UA Storm Insulated jacket. Along with a knit hat and knit neck warmer (snood). And with golf winter gloves, I was totallly warm. The Norse likely could easily replace the UA jacket from what I have read (Chris’s posts), but that’s my go to layering for warmth and flexibility to swing.

They’re getting hard to find the gold specific models at this point, but the UA Reactor series is the best piece of clothing I have ever owned. No idea how it works, but it really does seem to adjust to your body temperature and keep you comfortable over 4 hours on the course.

I know the 1/4 zip isn’t wind proof, but it handles 10 to 15 mpg winds just fine.

Here in Michigan, I play all winter long as weather allows. The best combination I've found for this temp range is a thermal long sleeve under the Footjoy lined sweater. Very comfortable down into the 30's. The sweater does a very good job of breaking the wind.

For an alternative option, checkout this deal at Costco on an Orvis Hybrid. Picked one up for $18 while shopping for everyday use. Wore it on a whim while golfing last week - it is perfect! And will save you a ton...

Thanks for the tip. I bought one.

I liked the 32 Degrees brand jacket at Costco much better. My local Costco had the Orvis, but I felt the 32 Degrees was of higher quality with a better fit for me. This jacket actually has down fill, not polyester like the Orvis. It's a few bucks more, but well worth it.

Now you tell me. Well, I'll have to make due with Orvis. I plan to keep this in my car as an "emergency" golf jacket.

I concur with @Steeltown1 regarding the 32 Degrees Mixed Media Jacket. I bought one from Costco.com in Medium and was pleasantly surprised by its quality.

The jacket isn't very thick at all (I prefer thinner jackets that don't interfere with a full swing), but its fleece sleeves and its down-filled quilted panels in the chest/back areas still kept me warm on a windy 50° day.

Beware, they run big. I usually wear a size Large in jackets, but luckily I ordered a Medium which fits nicely.

Bonus: these are currently on sale at Costco.com for $17 until Jan 20th. While they aren't nearly as warm as a Ping Norse Jacket, they do a pretty decent job for only $17.

As a follow up. I wore the Orvis as one of 3 jackets the other day when it was 37°F with wind. The jacket is quite warm for its thickness but the zipper is garbage.
