How many balls do you carry?

Londoner

Recommended Posts

I probably only use about six, but as I find balls on the course or I decide to try a different brand I don't take the old ones out the bag. I've been known to have about twenty in my trolley bag in summer!

In spring or fall when I'm carrying my bag I'll bring 2 sleeves of new and 2/3 old ones.

In 'winter' I'll have about a dozen - leafs, wet grass and plugged and lost balls, etc,..

In the middle of summer when I'm pushing my cart about a dozen. Funny because in the summer I rarely lose any balls...fear or phobia like some have stated ;P

Two all the time. Then in my golf bag I carry a ball sack with 6 to 12 golf balls.

I was going to say 2 as well....and I keep my golf balls in my bag on the back of the cart

I carry 2 sleeves but usually only use one or two balls at my normal course. I try to keep my bag as light as possible and carry very minimal stuff.

The most you've used is 3.....is that per hole! I call BS.... do you only play on courses with no water, no trees, extra wide fairways, no cliffs, no hills... come on man you're a 14 cap and par golfers can lose more than that on a tough track on any windy day lol!

Yeah.. what he said.

I always start with two fresh sleeves plus whatever left overs are in the bag and as a 15 cap I can assure you that is minimum some days. Not all days but its like bringing tools on a road trip, bring em or your sure to need em. Florida is not England though I will admit. If you miss a fairway or green here your are reaching in the bag.

I concur. My home course is tight with OB or some sort of water on 17 holes. I can go a couple rounds without losing one when conditions are calm and I'm playing well, but it's nothing to lose 2 sleeves when the wind is up and I've got my snap hook going.

There's an urban legend in Australia about a Japanese millionaire who played at a Gold Coast course and went out with about 3 boxes (dozens) of new ProVs. Whenever his ball missed the fairway he would drive to where he thought it went and if not found with a cursory glance would take a drop and keep going. Apparently he was a real hacker and it was a long course and he ran out of balls on 16 or 17. Not sure if it's true but have heard it a few times. Playing behind him would be the one time I'd be happy to be held up on every hole.

If I'm walking I try to carry as few as possible. Depends on course... One course I play you can lose a ball feet off the fairway due to fescue and other garbage. Others are wide open and just have trees separating the fairways so I bring less since I'm less likely to lose balls.

If I'm riding... who cares how heavy my bag is, I'll bring a whole dang bucket if I feel like it.

Two sleeves. And if i get anywhere near needing that i'll be walking in; not finishing-up.

Usually 6 balls (2 sleeves). But honestly, if I'm reaching for the 2nd sleeve my round is most likely in the toilet.

I allow myself 2 new balls for a comp round. Used ones that survive go into the used pocket in my bag along with any decent balls I find. Usually 5-6 there that are the backup or used for social rounds or practice rounds.

If I blow more than 2 balls I'm not scoring well anyway.

Seems like the old blokes at my club lose new pro vs all the time ...

Usually somewhere between 7 and 12, depending on how many lost & found.

I try and start off with about 9. Usually my breakdown is 2 sleeves (6) of "tour balls" and a sleeve of lower-end balls (I've been favouring the Wilson 50 Elite the past couple years), usually in Yellow.

Figure if I start losing the expensive ones, might as well get the clown colours out anyways. They also make for good practice or "second shot" balls when its slow or you have time to hit a few extra. Being non-white, it's easy for me to pick out which ball was my original and which ones weren't.

Invariably i'll find a few balls on course, either keep them in the bag for future use or they end up being bush/range balls.
