Global golf trade-in issues

I recently purchased a club from global golf and traded in some old wedges. When speaking to the rep on the phone he said as long as the condition did not have any blemishes that would impact play they would take them. Based on this convo I sent in 4 wedges. Fast forward to today, where I get an email and the newest/highest value wedge has been determined to be unacceptable. The explanation is excessive wear on the face and sole. I used this wedge for one year and from what I see on their site it should at worst be considered in line with their fair condition wedge pictures.

 

Overall it’s not a deal breaker since the value was relatively low, but I am annoyed that I sent it in only to find they won’t honor the agreed value and if I want it back it will cost me $10.99 in shipping.

 

Has anyone else had issues like this with global golf? I did a search but it was mostly woods being denied due to dents.

They sure don’t mind selling crap condition clubs described as “fair condition”. Seems like they accept and sell just about anything.

About 2 years ago I did a home made hack job grind on a wedge , traded it no questions asked . That was even with a trade in promotion where I got like extra 20%

is there browning on your wedge? Most all shops won't take wedges with browning nowadays. They might take iron sets if a club or two has signs of browning, but not wedges. I've traded in sets of irons and woods, no problems with global. They're usually pretty good about it.

There was some browning on the wedge, but honestly nothing crazy. Still very playable. I think it was on par or better than the value condition representative photos, which i included below. Seems really random with who you get assigned to evaluate your trade in. Pretty unfortunate I think.

So, now the question is: would you buy these wedges for $20 online from someone like Global Golf....or, for that matter, even if you saw them in person.

No, I stick to finding brand new clearance wedge deals like the $38 Wilson PMP from Budget Golf and $45 Mizuno MP T5 on ebay. The only time I check Global Golf used wedge stock is for certain shafts I'm searching for.

 

Must've been OP's first time trading in wedges. I'd hate to see his reaction to iron set values (~$15/club avg). Best trade value for cash sites I've used are Golfclubbrokers.com (fastest payment) and swingemagaingolf.com. Stuff I can't sell here or ebay goes there.

I'd be surprised if anyone paid $10 RETAIL for a wedge in that condition.

I think we got off the intended topic. I just wanted to see if others were put in a similar position where they had paid to send clubs in and then needed to pay to have the returned. If it were a higher value item then the return cost would be an easy decision, but at think point i have essentially paid to give away a club.

 

For this conversation, the value really shouldn't matter, they set the values they are willing pay for a club within their condition guide, so I don't see how its relevant if someone else will buy it or not. If nobody else will buy the club, then they shouldn't offer any money for it - seems pretty simple to me.

 

Its less than $20 though, so its not about the money, but I do think its worth other people being aware that something similar could happen to them.
