I actually played some new courses (one actually called that, lol) for the first time in years, and all out of town! Having some coffee and enjoying me a heaping helping of memories right now.

Traigh, Royal Dornoch, Struie, Brora, Crail Balcomie, The New Course, The Old Course

and

Loon Lake Golf Course (a gem of a little 9 hole just across the border into Minnesota) - even took the wife there, she loved it!

Ironbridge, Glenwood Springs CO

Haymaker, Steamboat Springs CO

Eaton CC, Eaton CO

Highlands Meadows will be on this years list.

Highlands Meadows is a really fun course. We played it last January and vowed we’d make it back to play in summer conditions. Unfortunately we didn’t make it, but now with us living here, I will this summer.

I remembered your trip (and all of Argonne’s) when I started the thread this year. Consider me jealous!! (And of many others as well).

Quick tally looks to register 26.

I've mentioned before, that the more courses I see the more I appreciate my regular sub $50 public tracks, that offer a fair bit of the fun these others provide, without needing to get on a plane.

And while it's cool to see new courses, a new course for new course sake really doesn't interest me anymore; hence why I only played 4 new courses in Texas this year, and only one of them was on purpose.

Off the top of my head I think 3 new courses. 2019 gets off to a good start with 3 new courses during a Vegas trip over spring break. Duffer, how did you like the La Cantera? We played it a few years ago and loved it.

It's good fun, with all the elevation changes and well framed holes in and over the valleys. The 36 available there can make for a good day out :-)

I like to walk so I wouldn't get to them often, but once a year makes for a nice treat.

Another solid year for me. I played on 88 different courses in 9 states (Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Arizona, Florida, California, Alabama, and Washington), compared to 84 different courses in 2017. Of these, 60 were first time visits, one less than in 2017. I've now played on 491 different courses.

The top 5 new courses this year would be Chambers Bay, Mammoth Dunes, TPC Sawgrass Player's Stadium, Sand Valley, and TPC Scottsdale Stadium.

2019 is very likely going to be scaled back from the past few years, but I'll be looking forward to playing the Old Course at St Andrews in April, which should be #500.

RE Highland link: course conditions?

Sabram: Thanks for all the excellent photos.

You played Highland Links in Nova Scotia; from everything I have ever read, it is a beautiful routing over superb ground that is always in terrible shape for lack of a maintenance budget. But I have never actually played it. How did you find the course conditions?

I'd say it depends on your expectations and willingness to play a course that's a little rough around the edges. It's nowhere near the conditoning of a typical resort. Having just come from Cabot, there was no comparison. Having said that, it didn't really affect play. There were some weeds and some bare spots in farways, but the greens were ok. I'm very happy to have played it. I was more disappointed in Keltic Manor, which is the resort where zHighlandd Links is located. It needs more work than the course, although it is in a lovely setting. Please excuse typos. I'm on a bus using my phone. Let me know if you have any questions about Cape Breton. It's a great place to visit with or without the great golf. Cabot is not to be missed. Both courses.

WTF did you do? It hurts just to see.Hope you are better and able to play soon

Was backpacking on the Arizona trail on my weekends off. Rolled it really good on mile 18 of 19 on the first passage. Felt fine then a few weeks later it completely gave out on mile 82. Turned out I completely tore my peroneus tendon. Doc fixed it and I now have the 4th piece of metal in my body.
