Rory's bag changes early 2019

Recommended Posts

Rocking a Tensei Pro White in the driver now, i know hes used it in the 3w for a year or two but hes been a KK and PO guy lately.

Also had steel in his 2i now instead of HZRDUS 105.

Interesting...

Btw, he is the worst wedge player i've seen on tour in a decade. :censored2:

I am normally not one to dive into stats, but your post got me interested to see how his wedge game has fared and the result was eye grabbing.

Approach shots from 100 to 125 yards

Rory McIlroy Rank T-163

Number of rounds in 2019 season-8

Average distance to cup- 23' 0"

Total distance in feet- 138.083"

Number of attempts-6

Score relative to par on attempts-Even par

i am going to say this knowing that it really does not compare. but Rory plays the same way i do. I driver the ball really well. i hit a lot of fairways and have a lot of wedges into greens. But, i rarely hit it close so i two putt par, or three putt bogey and move on. Only on those days where i hole a putt or two, or hit a couple closer than normal do i score better than a few strokes above par.

Rory is an infinitely better than i am, but the game style is similar.

No hiding Rory did not have a good Sunday but he was 11th in Strokes Gained Putting at Kapalua. Don't think it was a bad first week at all with the Spider prototype. Was also +2.824 SG Putting thru 3 rounds.

No hiding Rory did not have a good Sunday but he was 11th in Strokes Gained Putting at Kapalua. Don't think it was a bad first week at all with the Spider prototype. Was also +2.824 SG Putting thru 3 rounds.

Numbers didn't do what I saw with my eyes on Sunday, granted I didn't get to watch everyday

I would go with the numbers which cover every shot, over the ones they happen to show you on TV :)

He was -1.4 SGP on Sunday. It wasn't good. But he was + SGP in all three rounds prior to the final round and his stroke looked good. In other words, it wasn't an issue with the putter.

Oh I know it's not the putter, hence why I jokingly said he didn't help sales lol

I saw a pic of his bag with a second High Toe...54 I believe. I do remember watching the PGA last summer and one of the commentators mentioning he should switch to a higher spinning ball.

He switched from the TP5x to the TP5 at the start of the Playoffs or PGA last year, which is a higher spin ball. Not sure if he switched back to the 5x this year or stuck with the 5 this year.

He used the TP5, all of the other tour big names are using the X.

it is amazing to watch him hit driver. it is crazy to think that someone that has that kind of control with a long club is so glitchy with a wedge.

Do you think it's because he plays PX 6.5s (fairly stout) in them? I know it's a flex down from his regular iron shafts, but maybe if he used something with a bit more "feel" like S400 or something?

who am i to comment on what he plays?? conventional wisdom would say yes. but what do i know??

Preach.

Xander plays x100s and is looking like a pretty amazing wedge player

He kept using that putter after the tournament and had nothing but bad putting with it. He was just hot that week, nothing else. It's super frustrating as a huge McIlroy fan. He'd be #1 in the world with 2-3 more majors under his belt if he could putt.

Rory must literally hate golf. All the talent he has but hasnt been able to put it all together for years.

So so frustrating to watch and probably for him

Then again - Im sure the millions of dollars he has keeps him warm at night and helps him forget the shots he throws away each round....

What goes well with a Sunday 72? Tawny port, blue cheese and walnuts of course!
