Apex cf16 to Apex 2019 irons - Loft jacking continuing??

Recommended Posts

Interesting point. Plus they can sell more hybrids because 3 and 4 irons are harder to hit.

1988 - 2-PW - 9 clubs - $799 + 2 wedges + 2 woods + Putter

2019 - 4-PW - 7 clubs - $799 + 4 wedges + 2 woods + Putter

They can sell you an iron set with less clubs and then sell you more wedges at ~$130 per wedge.

Probably an unpopular position especially among low handicappers, but I liked the 5* gapping on 8,9,PW,AW . . .

Using the CF16s, I really looked forward to this release, however, regardless of the jacked lofts, to put these in my bag I would have to rethink the gaps to the Hybrids and especially Gap and Sand Wedges, possibly forcing additional replacement.

This year is getting expense...

5 iron, 24° in cf16, 23.5° in cf19.

PW, 45° in cf16, 43° in cf19.

The pursuit for distance has reached a new level. Quite absurd.

See the pictures for all specs of cf16 and cf19.

At the end of the day, if a 7 iron still flys and lands like a 7 iron, why does it matter what loft it is.

Except that it is 10 yards longer than a traditionally-lofted 7 iron. Same for your PW. You suddenly have a 25 yards gap between the new PW and your 51-degree gap wedge. Then what you do?

Then hit a knock-down PW. Every shot doesn't have to be a full shot.

So that is why Xander won,lol

Pure luck with the two chip-ins. I have never seen a pro chunks the driver 200 yards side way to a fairway bunker ...

Xander plays the Apex Pro's so that loft chart doesn't relate to his set. He also said many times after that drive was intentional. He wasn't carrying a 5 wood and he had been practicing that shot during the practice rounds.

I have actually been working to spread my irons and wedges out to cover more ground. My 3 iron is 19 degrees, PW is 48. then its 53, 58, 64 degree wedges driver, and 3 wood. i think it will work out great. i need to bend my 5 iron a degree strong, and 9 iron a degree weak to fix gapping but then i should be set.

Jacked lofts as just part of the distance equation, they have to get the right shafts as well. We all know a 7i today is really a 5i of 10 years ago but in the end nobody cares because when you're at the tee box and you hit your 7i 165 yards to the pin and everyone else falls 20 yards short they ask you what club you hit, not the loft.

The Apex CF19's are long and a lot of golfers will buy them for that reason, just as they bought the P790's and AP3's. IMHO, distance irons will be a huge market because many guys I know refuse to acknowledge the loss of distance as they get older.

The callaway apex 2019 are the best irons I have ever played. I played competition from juniors, high school, college and still as an adult amateur. I could always keep up with the longest hitters. At 37 my distances have declined while the courses have gotten longer. However, these apex 2019s are so good. They are so easy to hit. I track range data. I hit these at same trajectory and distance dispersion as I did with MP18s and XForged18s. However, 7iron is flying 175 rather than 160. Plus these irons are traditional in profile and beautiful. If you have been on the fence about getting stronger lofted irons you need to hit these.

How about the shot making, distance consistentency of the new Apex compared to x-forged 2018 as you mentioned using? How about Backspin number? Those things are what I don’t find in new Apex Pro and why I stick to x-forged 18.

I just bought the Apex 19 5-AW and have played 2 rounds with them. My old irons were Nike Covert 2.0's and the distance seems to be a little bit more with the Callaway's, with the trajectory a bit lower but more spin (they stop great). If have had to adjust the bag though. I removed one hybrid (4) and added a wedge (which I already had).

I had to have my 50/54/58 wedges bent to 52/56/60 and the lie adjusted flat to match. Wow, great gapping and the flatter lie has all but eliminated my left misses with the short irons and wedges.

I love these irons. And the bag appeal is primo.

I plan to go with the combo set, where the lofts have been adjusted weaker and should be a better gap in terms of distance. Also interesting that they developed entirely new tooling and even slight tweaks to the head shape for the combo set vs. the standard sets.

I have the combos on order. I went one degree weak so the PW is 46 degrees. I go 50/54/58 in my othe wedges and got the 19 Apex 4 Hybrid that has been great so far for 2 rounds. Super excited to get them!

I have the 5-GW as well with Modus 105 they felt OK but harder than my PXG and launched lower.
