Taylormade M5 & M6 Woods - Pics added page 46

I was fitted for a accra FX 2.0 360 M5 ( low spin, low launch shaft) in an M3 head. I was wondering what options I would have for the M5 and which would be most similar to the accra?

After many custom orders from Taylormade's custom department, I would recommend that if you are considering ordering this way and paying full retail that you go to a reputable clubfitter and have them build you one instead. Quality control, swingweighting, head weighting, etc are just too unpredictable from Taylormade. The whole thing where they just automatically tip every shaft an inch just adds too much uncertainty to your order and if you're going to pay the full retail price, you might as well get exactly what you want/need.

I got fitted at club champion. Which I took advantage of the full bag for half price fitting around Christmas time. Back ground, I haven't golfed much in the last decade and my clubs are from the early 2000's. I'm now 35 and can afford the time and money to enjoy the sport more now. I couldn't justify buying a driver at full retail and then upcharge for shafts I can get direct from taylormade. Ordering from taylormade will get clubs that will be close to ideal for me but also saving $$$$. I can get the irons built to the same specs but probably not as exact as a premium clubfitter. I can get woods shafts that are in the ballpark for what I was fit to. I'm not sure the fitting would have me as dialed in anyways since I was quite rusty in the booth. After a couple years with them, I imagine I can justify doing another fitting and getting clubs dialed in more for me.

I know that Club Champion charges a lot for what they offer. It's by far easier to order direct through the OEM. In the past TM custom shop did not make swingweight adjustments. So if you are fit into clubs that are longer or shorter than standard the swingweights could be off. If you are fit for shafts that are counterbalanced, heavier, or lighter than the stock shafts you may end up with wonky swingweights as well. That bothers some people, it doesn't make any difference to others. Just wanted to make sure you knew. It would be a shame to buy brand new shiny irons and then have to put lead tape on them out of the gate. (My lie adjustments through the custom shop were all completed spot on.)

I was told by TM that they match the standard stock SW but won’t build to custom ones. So for example, if the M5 is D4 stock, they will maintain D4 if I order a shorter driver.

It is possible that this is the case for woods. They would not swingweight irons to match stock SW last season. I purchased p790s -1/2" with Modus 105 Stiff. They came in at c6. I was told through multiple channels that this was standard practice and that they would not swingweight them. Sorry to get off track.

Back to your normally scheduled broadcast about what the bottom of the m6 looks like and why they upcharge for higher end shafts.

TM doesn't SW anything properly if it's a custom order.....You can ask in the notes but it never comes out right. They don't change weights nor do they add hotmelt. If you want SW'ing done right do it yourself if you are dealing with TM.

Man I was really hoping that they would add the PO or PW 80. It’s nice to see that they added the PW 90 though. I might have to look back into getting a gapr low and putting the PW 90 in it since it’s only a $50 upcharge

M5 460. I usually play the smaller head but I am testing the 460 it looks and feels good in the few shots I have hit. Hopefully more today depending on weather.

I am interested in your thoughts on the new TP5 ball. I read a review on another site where the tester found an increase in ball speed with it. Wondering if it's just fluff, or an actual noticeable difference.

I would like to know if you think you are seeing higher ball flight with low spin. Most reviews I have seen show 15 -16* launch with 2000 spin area.

If it is too wet in Napa send it up to me in Eureka....bone dry and 75*…. :D

As many have said previously, the M3 and the M5 adapters are interchangeable and I don't believe anything changed from the M1 to M3 so you should be fine.

No. I tried taking a picture of it next to the M3 440, but I can't get a good shot of it. I have seen some pics of it including mine and it is not narrow. Shape is similar to the M3 440 but a little bigger. The M5 is approx.4 5/8" across and 5" toe to heel (a club cannot legally be wider than it is long even though some may look it especially putters). The M3 440 is approx. 4.5 across by 4 7/8 toe to heel From the bottom with no wrap around. I like the shape a lot. I usually prefer the shape of the TMs over others which many appear to me to be more "bulbus".

I don't have the M5 Tour (435) yet just the 460. I hit some shots on course late today. Actually went on the course and never hit an iron or a putter just drivers a couple of 3wds and a few Hi Toe lobs. Very windy and wet ground. I actually took 7 driver shafts out there more to eliminate a few to better focus and narrow the selections. Next step to find the best set ups with each shaft in the weight adjustments and hosel sets. Then compare to select the best for the most consistency and best performance for both distance and dispersion. Don't know if I will be able to get all of that done before heading to Orlando next Friday. Games Sat, Sun, and Monday before Demo day and the SHOW. We'll see how it goes. I will take the M3 440 with me but I really plan on gaming the M5 at least after Saturday.

Initial NOTES Trajectory is clearly higher without any ballooning even while using different balls for testing. I forgot to take the new '19 TP5X ball out there.

Big difference from the M3 440 is in the sound and feel. The M5 is much more "solid" at impact thus some might consider it more "muted" in feel. It has more of an actual wood sense to it. Therefore less vibration. I really like that part of it. The Twist face seemed to work even better (especially on heeled shots) than the M3 440 which I was happy with last season. Looking forward to really working it out for more than an hour or so.

Much more work to do!

Just received the new M5 9.0 for testing along with the new TP5X ball. Need drier weather. Hopefully a little look tomorrow. I have 5 or 6 Fujikura driver shaft options to try with it. More to come . . .

Is it me or does this shape differ from M3 by being longer heel to toe and less deep front to back?

Any comparisons between M3 440 and M5 430?

This seems to be the finding of the several reviews out currently.....Higher trajectory with low spin. Thanks for verifying this.

I find Ricks review slightly flawed as he didn't hit his gamer at all, just stated his "usual speeds" and then said it was slower than his gamer...even though in testing vs last years product it was faster...

Me too a little. At first I liked the idea of his optimal performance chart or whatever he calls it, but now it seems like he just finds a couple stats to point out that either make it a great driver or a lousy driver. Since that's started, his reviews seem to be focused to much on numbers and having a nice looking video. He says he's going out to the course, then shows some cinematic shots for a couple minutes with music over it. That doesn't help me at all. I think he was his best back when he and Pete both got the studio and when they moved into this one. I'm still a fan of Rick's, but get back to talking about how you like the clubs feel and sound. His reviews for the TM drivers the past couple years haven't made me think any more or less or them.
