I disagree to some extent, if a Euro captain loses away from home and does a good job with regards to the players then the criticism seems to be far less. For example Faldo vs Clarke, the levels of criticism for those two were miles apart. Lots of leaks to the press about the former being a bad captain not so much with the latter. I think the Euro press is realistic that the US team will almost always be heavy favourites when playing at home.

True but I compared Faldo v Clarke as the matches were very similar - scoreline for example.

For anyone with 90 minutes spare, go on youtube and type in Life on Tour (European Tour video) Paddy Harrington episode. 90 minutes of brilliance. The guy is fascinating, so so interesting to hear his views on golf and his golf game.

Winning away is tough as we all know but I think he'll be a brilliant captain personally.

Great to see him as captain but a really tough job ahead. Only one Ryder Cup has been won by the away team in the last 14 years...and that was Medinah with a miracle comeback/collapse. US team going to be strong.

If you go back to 85 (when the Ryder cup started to become what it is today)

USA home wins 4

USA away wins 1

Europe home wins 7

Europe away wins 4

I reckon Europe has a much better chance of winning away than what the USA does

Do people do that? It's going to be tough for a generation to not pick someone with a losing record, so went the events.

Paddy did stink it up in back to back cups, but otherwise played well and more importantly the team record was 4-2 :)

4-2-0 for the teams he's played on. I guess his points could be further analysed to see how "important" they were but if you play 25 matches over 6 Ryder Cups you are a key team member. The team record is often overlooked in these debates.
