What retail wedges get the most spin

The Mizuno MP Forged Wedges have more spin than any other Retail Wedge I have found, especially if you acquired them with the Rifle Spinner Shaft option over the Dynamic Gold Shaft that came standard. There is no club that benefits more from the soft feeling of a forging than wedges, so its hard to understand why so many wedges are actually CAST these days. (So many don't know what they are missing in feel)

 

Furthermore, nobody offers better feeling forged clubs than Mizuno.

I just purchased a 58* X-Tour MD and it has TONS of spin. Good playability too with the cutout sole. Unfortunately, it will absolutely shred the cover off a golf ball.

Of the wedges that I've tried (900 Gunmetal, CG10 Black Pearl, Vokey Black Nickel, Mizuno all finishes, Vokey Spin Milled), I think all but the Mizuno's offer about equal spin. I've had 900s and CG10s in gap and sand wedges that are difficult to use on full shots just because of the fact that they could spin all the way off the green. That was one of the reasons why I went to the Mizuno gap and sand wedge, because the distance was so much easier to control than the Clevelands. You could count on them hitting and stopping in place or coming back maybe a few feet, instead of 15 or 20.

 

I just picked up a new Spin Milled Oil Can and so far it's very comparable to a Black Nickel Vokey I used in the past. I haven't had it in the bag long enough to tell a huge difference, but it definately will stop a ball out of the rough even on the smallest of pitch shots.

I currently use Mizuno MP's and am pleased with them. I do agree that spin is significantly more attributable to the angle of attack rather than the grooves alone. A pitching wedge will always spin more than a lob wedge. I've also used the Titleists and the Clevelands. I think they are pretty much in the same league.

 

Here's a brand from left field though and I don't know if you guys have tried them. I have a set of SMT wedges that were given to me as a gift. These suckers have CNC milled faces and and score lines. The milling on them is insane. It is not an exaggeration to say that you could literally file down your fingernails on the faces. I practiced on the range with them and after about 2 dozen balls, I was peeling a layer of rubber off the club face. I used them on the course and after a round, my pro-v1 does look like it has seen some better days. The spin is phenomenal. Just thought you guys might want to check them out.

Don't forget Ping Eye 2 wedges...go to Ebay. Put a Rifle spinner shaft in them after purchasing. You won't believe the spin on those. Doesn't chew up golf balls either.
