Love my 745's

You did well to find a brand new in wrapper set.

I was lucky for sure. Now i'm just trying to figure out what shafts i want to put in them. Stick with my 120TX or try something else, maybe graphite? :rap:

I guess it's safe to post this now. Winning 2019 irons :pimp:

Srixon 745's - just look at that profile :busted_cop:

They do look great, is that PW? Also what is it about the 745, that you prefer over 765/785? Is it just comfortability with the set, or just not enough difference in the 2 newer sets to go through the whole "getting used to" period?

What options are you interested in, in graphite? I've never seen your swing, but have followed your WITB for quite awhile and it seems like something quite out of the norm for what you've typically played.

Yes that was the PW.

I like the 745's better than 765's because they completely changed the shape, length, and offset. And not in a good way. They basically redesigned the iron completely which is baffling.

I like the 745's over the 785's because they have less offset and straighter lines at address.

Shafts- If you click my instagram link in my signature I have swing vids you can check out for reference. The main reason I'm looking at iron shafts is because of the tennis elbow/ tendinosis I'm dealing with. I'm also thinking maybe the inserts for my steel shafts to dampen vibration. Honestly, at this point, I'll do anything that helps fix/prevent this from reoccurring. It's the most frustrating injury I've ever dealt with.

I know there have been some graphite shafts come out here and there but nothing has really been played on tour other than steel fiber. Due to shoulder tendonitis I switched from the 120tx to steelfiber 125x a couple years ago. It definately helped and the 125x were the best graphite replacement for steel I could find. I think that is probably true today....I am now feeling pretty good and considering dynamic gold 120x100 that I hit at club champion and was honestly extremely similar numbers for me...the i125x have better feel, the i110x you lose more with less weight. Also the 120tx build heavy vs the steelfiber. Pm if you want any more info or if you get to NOVA, come hit my irons to try out...

Thanks for the info and offer. I'm looking at a few options right now and steelfiber is on the list. I'm conflicted between inserts/steel vs graphite in terms of playability and vibration management. At this point my goal is to reduce any contributing factor to my elbow tendinosis.

Sensicore in steel and recoils were both way better for my elbow. After a year or so I was able to go back to steel without issue.

That seems to be what i hear. It seems that everyone goes graphite then moves back to steel once the issue is better. Is that because graphite just isn't as good performance wise? Or just people like the feel of steel?

It depends on how bad it is for you. I also tried inserts and they helped but when I tried steelfiber, I could play or practice 4 times as long as I could with steel to get to the same pain level....

Performance wise for me the issue was spin. Still low, but not dgx7 low...just build up a 7 iron with i125x and make your own judgement, as results can vary.....also the recoil are just a tad more flexible than steelfiber.

Also, midsize grips may help as well, more rubber....

Funny you mention grip size because that's one of the things i'm changing. I"ve always played standard with 5 wraps on left and 4 under the right and noticed that when i use a midsize my hands are much more relaxed when holding the club.

Insert wise i'm looking at those options as well. A friend is sending me a project X catalyst 100 6.5 to try in my 7 iron so once the elbow gets better (even though it seems like it will never improve) i'll give it a shot and report back. I've hit the recoils and they were solid. Steelfibers are good as well it just seems like the flexes are all over the place feel wise.

btw Merry Christmas to everyone :golfer: :golfer: :superman:

Interesting in the podcast that you mentioned liking the shape of the old Razr x forged irons. I have the 745’s and had been looking for a gap wedge to match the shape of the set. There was a Japan version of the 745 A wedge, but that one was more rounded and blade like than the rest of the set. I tried the 765 A wedge, but that was too rounded on the toe and had way too much offset. Years passed and I was walking through a golf shop when something caught my eye. It was a wedge that had a very close shape to the 745’s, only discernible difference I could tell at address was that it had more grooves than the 745. I picked the club up and turned it around, only to be surprised that it was a brand new Razr x forged A wedge. Who knows how long it had been there, as those irons had come out many years back at that point. Fast forward to today and I am still using that Razr x forged wedge as a gap for my 745 set.

Cool thanks for the feedback I look forward to trying it out..

The elbow tendinosis is a severe pain in the a$% but I went to the range the other day and hit a small bucket. Hit a lot of half to 3/4 shots with the bandit brace and it wasn't too bad. Of course, I was striping the ball after not touching a club for 3 weeks. Makes me want to play that much more.

  • 3 weeks later...

As some of the new toys come out I have dabbled a bit despite the tennis elbow. Fortunately, the elbow has actually started healing so I'm able to hit balls at 75-80% speed. Not great for numbers (which in winter is useless anyway) but I'm at least able to get a feel for the club.

Here ya go

Cobra - wow, they did a great job and the shape is perfect. Yellow isn't for me but the white would do nicely. Overall, wow, cannon.

Callaway Apex Pro's - Cally got it right, shape is pretty good to my eye but the chrome looks great and the feel is butter. Well done

Didn't notice any click. I try not to comment on sound until I hit the club outdoors.

Despite me swinging slower than normal (around 105mph) it seemed to jump off the face. And for a quick reference I hit a few other drivers side by side to get an apples to apples and it was definitely a little faster. I'll be interested to see how it performs when I can put a normal swing on it. It's a must try if your looking for a new driver.

Both look nice. Especially if he Apex Pros. Interesting to see how the driver performs

Once it gets warm I look forward to finding out. I really love the shape and feel but the yellow is not good. Sole is ugly while the crown is gorgeous. Beauty and beast all wrapped up into 1 driver.

There is a gray sole version as well that is not as obnoxious looking.

Yeah I saw that. The white/grey would be more my style.
