First of all, let me say that you guys are fantastic. I’m literally laying here reading these responses finally, and laughing my butt off.

We ended up having a great day. I took the overly positive Approach, which is the one I’m most comfortable with, and complimented him on good shots and never went down to his level. It only took about a hole and a half, and he realized that he was looking like an a******. We ended up having an absolute fantastic day. He did end up beating me in matchplay on the 17th green, but I played the best I could within my ability and he got loads of breaks. Such is golf.

The score may have said he was up 2&1 at the end, but I feel in many ways like it was a win. Thank you so much for the excellent feedback!

Since we haven't heard from the OP on what really happened, it's time for us to create a story...here goes...

"I was striping the ball on the range and when we got to the first tee, I pulled driver and proceeded to ______________________________________"

Wrap it around his neck!"

After the police investigation cleared me with probably cause and we continued the round, I proceeded to____________________________________________________"

Come one now, you should have been the bigger jerk and lost 8&7, lol!

Just kidding and glad to hear of the real outcome - bodes well for the future.

A small guy leaves himself wide open to insults, dish it. " I think I saw that shirt in the children's section at WalMart, they have your size!". Of course you can go even lower. But like one poster said, have fun. Exercise your inner Don Rickles.

You sound like the tall morons who occasionally try to insult me in an attempt to make themselves feel better after being thoroughly out driven and whipped by someone who's 5'6. Don't be the guy who tries to make fun of the short guy. That probably means you're the fat guy with very little education.

Trash talking is for competitors of near equal skill level. Don't even try talking trash with someone who is better than you because you'll always look like an idiot.

I could eat soup off the top of your head. Now run along and play with the other children

  • 2 weeks later...

Hey fam,

I’m in a tournament tomorrow, and my pairing all day he’s going to be with a guy who loves to trash talk. In our tradition where I’m from, there’s just not a lot of that, and the last time we played together it was unexpected and it, while within the rules, was just annoying as hell and was unexpected so I got into my head.

Well, here we go again and tomorrow is a somewhat big day, and my pairing is again with this guy who is going to be jawing the entire time. Do any of you out there have any advice on how to mentally prepare before around for this type of eventuality? I’m pretty levelheaded and don’t get hot, but it was so unexpected last time that it threw me off.

Looking for any advice on how to deal with a more vocal adversary.

Pretend you woke up this morning and found yourself a 10 year old wimpy new fat kid in a boston area elementary school. In a matter of weeks, that kid had to develope a sense of humor, a quick wit. Nobody can f*** with him now. Make fun of him and hell undress you. Your shoes. Your stupid pxg clubs, your white belt and jordan spieth pants.

That kid is all grown up. And he kind of thinks you have apparently been living in a bubble eating nothing but triscuits and milk for your entire life.

Grow a pair buddy.

What the hell....

Im sorry. Despite my incoherent post, This guy just needs a stranger on the internet to tell him to quit being neurotic and grow a pair. Thats it.

Perhaps you should have read the entire thread, instead of just the original post from two weeks ago. He chose his own course of action, and did just fine in the match.
