Callaway Big Bertha Fusion Driver- Need Advice

LONGBALL777

Recommended Posts

Hi. The thread on this driver has given me fever that can't even be cured by more cowbell. Just need suggestions on a shaft. This has to be on a budget, so can't afford a fitting.

Driver swing speed- about 85

Biggest flaw- Tempo can get quick

Usual miss- Hook.

Any suggestions?

Thanks very much in advance.

Try the UST Mamiya V2 HL in the current version, or the VTS Red in the old version. Both should do the trick for you giving you what you're looking for on a budget.

The club comes with 2 standard options; a Diamana Red M+ and a Recoil. I believe both of them are higher launching shafts so you could start with whichever comes with it.

I was the original poster on the big Fusion thread.

I’ve moved to. g400 Max, although I’m not convinced it is a real improvement.

For me, the stock shafts were what gave the Fusion the rep as a high spin old folks driver.

I alternate between a Matrix Xcon 6 (which can be found very cheap) and a Hzrdus Black.

The Matrix is longer, the Hzrdus straighter.

I also had good results with a Graphite Design G60.

I have similar swing speed, quick temp but don’t fight a hook. If your on a budget the stock m+60 is good but it’s soft to flex so go stiff. It goes high. Never liked the recoil. Fuji vista pro in 60 gram regular or stiff are new on eBay for $100 with Callaway tip and they will make it any length you want. first if your going -1 short get a heavy 12-14 gram weight unless it already has one in there.

Great driver, I use it with a fujikura speeder evolution 3 stiff as I like medium trajectory and fade.

Stock shafts play weaker. Not normally conducive if you're looking for a high fade. Really depends on your swing though. Weaker flex could potentially make the hook miss even worse. But again depends on your swing. What makes your miss a hook?

I personally didn’t like the Recoil, it felt very flimsy. There was a used one in GG today with a Matrix Red Tie shaft that I hit and liked a lot better. The Matrix White Tie might be an option too. I have a quick transition and like that shaft. I had the Pro Launch Blue before - it’s a good cheap option but still felt a bit flimsy with my quick transition.

The white tie was 1 that came to mind for me too.

Stock stiff Recoil worked fine for my 95-98 mph swing. I got the short version w/12g weight in the head.

Sounds pretty much like me. I have the heavy version (44.5 length) with the recoil es 450 in regular flex. Would love to swap for the same shaft in stiff flex

My buddy has and loves this driver. He's a gear whore, has played Tour AD GP and TP, he's since picked up the newer Srixon, but he LOVES the Recoil shaft that came stock in the Big Bertha Fusion. He liked it so much so he went and picked one up to put in his new Srixon. You may want to give it a shot.

I have two of these drivers and the one with the heavier weight (12 grams)is so much better than the one with the 5 gram weight. I am going to cut the longer one to 44 3/4" long and add a heavier weight. I need to find out where I can get a heavier weight for it?

I cut the other one to 44 1/2" and added the Billy Bob 16(15.5) gram weight in it. It feels great and hopefully I will get to hit it soon. The 45 1/2" stock club was horrible, a few good hits here and there. The 45" with the 12 gram is actually very good, what a difference a heavier weight can make on this club, amazing.

That is because most modern callaway driver heads are way to light usually around 190-193, you need to at least 200 but mostly 205 irregardless if swing speed in my opinion.

Add heavier weigjts and they come alive.
