So I've been browsing this site for a while. Quite honestly started here when looking for simulator advice...but now I'm trying to get my posts up so up so I can list something in the Lefty Swap and Shop. Anyway, attached is a photo of my simulator. I would be willing to answer questions, provide feedback etc. Disclaimer: I'm not an expert by any means. (Also...I have no clue how to get the picture to turn. My apologies)

Very nice set up, even when view sideways!

I know it's not a "true" simulator, but I am a soon to be college graduate with a fairly low budget and lack of room to swing a full length club. I've just discovered the Tittle X and soon to be released TruGolf Mini-Sim/Tempo Trainer. I understand the negative connotations of not truly swinging a full length club but this is what my budget and residence currently allows. If anyone has any experience with or a comparison amongst the two, I would be very appreciative.

Driver - Taylormade M2 2017 9.75*

3W - Cobra RadSpeed Draw 14.5*

5W - Callaway Epic Flash 18*

7W - Taylormade M4 5HL 21*

5H - Callaway Rogue 24*

Irons - Taylormade P790 6-PW

Wedges - TM Milled Grind 50* & 54* | Hi-Toe 60*

Putter - Nike Method Converge B1-01

Grips - MCC clone| Ball - TP5

I have no experience with those particular ones, but similar things. If I can offer some advice, you are literally almost better off just playing golf on a Nintendo Wii. In no way, do those represent your actual shot because you aren't hitting a ball. You will be paying a substantial amount of money for something that looks prettier, and perhaps better captures the motion of your swing but without hitting a real ball and it monitoring your actual ball launch conditions, it really isn't much different than a wii for "fun" purposes. It will give you some perhaps valuable data, but knowing what I know about sims and LMs in general, I would never ever buy such a device and instead use a wii.

That is just me though, not trying to poo poo your desire for one, just food for thought from someone that has tested and looked into many things out there. I am somewhat educated on the limitations of these things.

I'm similar to macedan in the lack of room for a full swing but am less constricted by budget. I wish for something like Skytrak, but with better resolution for chipping and pitching, and perhaps putting. I have a practice area in my basement with a mat and a hanging carpet where I hit hundreds of pitches and chips. A device that would give me accurate distance and direction (which the local simulator at an indoor golf facility does quite well) would be worth some investment. I have one of the little doppler SkyCaddie (I think) units that is pretty ineffective even with full swings, completely useless for anything under PW. But if it could be made reasonably accurate with club/ball speed, swing path, launch angle and spin at pitching and chipping speeds, that would be very attractive. Would have considered a Skytrak even though it might not make sense to many, but it sounds like there is a lower limit for its resolution.

I own, have owned several gadgets, as well as read many reviews and unbiased information on many other launch monitor type devices out there. There really is not a good cheap option that gives you what you need besides a Skytrak. Skytrak still does well with chips and stuff, its not perfect, not as good as a GC2 for instance, but honestly it is quite good.

The closes thing I am aware of that is "decent" is a Flightscope Mevo. They don't measure spin axis or horiztonal launch angle but you can get reasonably accurate club head speed, vertical launch angle, ball speed and spin (with the dots on it). I don't know how much room you need for that though. It also does not work with any simulation software as far as I know, but I could be wrong.

It might be a few more years yet before prices really drop and phone sized accurate LMs hit the market. I believe the tech is already there, its just that certain manufacturers have the market cornered. Sytrak's success has been a good market disruptor imo, and hopefully smaller, better and cheaper LMs will come out in the near future.

Thanks! Almost pulled the trigger on a used Skytrak a while back but was under the impression that the short game stuff wasn't great. I'll keep my eyes open. Actually, I'd really like to try one sometime. I imagine that they are like other simulators I've used but first-hand experience would be nice.

Chipping and pitching is fine. Putting, not great. Doesn’t do a very good job with direction (azimuth) with putts.

^^^ Lol. The photos they use in the advertisements for simulators always crack me up. Do you guys really put on full golf attire with tucked in shirts and everything to hit in your basement?

lucky if I put a shirt on. I dress more like john daly if dressed at all.

You’d put a shirt on in my simulator... Minnesota in an unisulated garage, me boy! Going to hit -27* tomorrow. And that is air temperature, not windchill. That’ll get into the -40-50’s!

I haven't read all through this, so this may have already been asked. Is there anything better to run on a Skytrak than TGC?

We currently have a setup using it. I always wanted to get JNPG, but when we built our system it was on the way out.

I don't have any pics of the current setup that I know of. We are planning a remodel this summer I know that.

I don't have much experience with the other offerings from Skytrak but you can still get a Skytrak with JNPG if you really want it. They exist. I sold my Skytrak without JNPG after the cut off date for purchasing JNPG for it, and bought a used Skytrak with JNPG subscription still applied to it. It just depends on how much you want what that software has to offer.

So you can transfer the license between Skytrak's?

You can transfer ownership of skytrak and jnpg license yes but most people just hand over Skytrak account. Guy selling to me changed his password and username to something else to protect his data, deleted information from account he didn't want me to see. I got his new sign-in information and changed username and password to my own and all was good. The license is associated with the Skytrak itself and the account associated with that Skytrak as far as I understand.

This is similar to what I did. The only thing that cannot be changed is the Sky Golf username. My previous owner gave me his username and password. I changed the email address and password to something of my own. Even if the previous owner tried to do a password reset, that would be sent to my email address.

Good thread. I looked into putting together a simulator a few months ago but eventually shelved the idea after costing it out. I figured it would take about $5k to do a respectable SkyTrack setup that included projector and screen. I can rent a lot of time on a commercial system for that amount. Would be fun to build, however. I may still do it.

I look like that 90% of the time when I'm using mine. Get home from work, put on golf shoes, start hitting.

It would look silly if he was in gym shorts and a white tee shirt.

Which is how I look the other 10%, when I roll out of bed on a Sunday and start hitting.

Alright boys, I'm about to pull the trigger on a used Skytrak. Considering it's a lot of cash, I'd like to do my due diligence before sending a random person on the internet $2k. Do these things break? What questions should be asked and what should I be aware of when purchasing?

A brand new one is $1700. Does the 2 grand come with a simulator subscription or screen or something?

A brand new one is 2 grand. https://shop.skytrak...s-packages.aspx

Don't know where everyone keeps getting the 17 number? It comes with an impact screen and fittings for pipe.

and its 1800. Rounded up to 2k for exaggeration purposes.

Gotcha. I wonder if they were on sale at one point for 1700 but are now back up to normal price. The fact that it comes with a screen is nice because those aren't necessarily cheap themselves.

I plan on making a purchase later this year and am on the fence between going with a new or used one. I hope it works out for ya. I know there are other people here who have bought used.

Yeah I'm a little nervous about buying used.. but seems to be a good seller. Just quite a bit of $ to take a risk on. Probably PP goods a services, that way I have some type of insurance.

They have a coupon for $300 off a few times a year.

I saw one place where it said it was active through tomorrow but I tried and it said it was expired.

SKYTRAK300

Or it looks like they currently have certified pre-owned for $1700.

That's what I bought and it has been fine.
