Yeah, you need to speed up a bit, buddy! Let's get that time from "step-in" to "pull the trigger" down to about six or seven seconds, max! ;-)

Yeah, you can get carried away with that stuff. The thing is, good players and pros who play quickly, do all of that all the time, they just do it quickly. I've hit very few shots in my entire life without assessing the lie before hitting the shot, but it takes a microsecond.

Ball sitting down in a bit of a hole? Go down and get it. Ball will tend to come out a bit low and hot.

Balls sitting up higher will come out a bit higher and softer and you can do whatever you want with the ball. Only thing you want to avoid is getting too steep with a wedge which will have the ball run up the face and you will lose distance.

Etc., Etc.

We should be able to make those determinations very, very quickly, right?

i'm pretty fast, 1 practice swing, up and rip. My gf is even faster, she doesn't even practice swing. just gets up there and rips it. Imagine my surprise when I went to the philippines with her & her family and played with her brothers, and one of her brothers was one of these stand-over-ball-30-40-seconds and it was EXCRUCIATING. Worse because he's been playing his whole life, and really could rip it, but man.....slowed pace down so much.

A few times after setup and waiting, he'd back out and practice/look again and i wanted to scream. I think i cut my tongue pretty deep to not shout at him lol

I think its a fine routine. You never really spend more than 5-7 seconds on any part of the routine. Minus pinning and teeing the ball its about 30 seconds.

5 seconds for practice swing/grip

7 seconds to pick a line and shot

7 seconds to setup

5 seconds to confirm setup and shot

5 seconds to pull trigger

Most good players I play with have a similar PSR. Maybe a little quicker by 5-7 seconds or so.

I agree, if I were playing with you I wouldn't think anything of your routine. Personally I wouldn't be comfortable standing over the ball as long as you do, but to each his own and you aren't anything I'd consider "slow" if I were playing with you. You set your feed at 0:37 and take the club back at 0:55, so only 18 seconds. To me all the stuff before that is pretty standard.

Don't get me wrong though. I don't think there is a ton of wiggle room before I would start getting frustrated at how long it takes. If you took an extra 10 seconds somewhere it would become very noticeable and probably frustrating.

But that is just my opinion.

I play with a lot of different players and adjust to whatever group I’m in. By nature, I play pretty quick. No practice swings, no practice putting strokes, except I do take rehearsal swings on chips to get a feel for the turf.

When I was in my early 50s a friend and I walked 6,600 yards each time out and our record was in 2 hours 18 minutes. We played way too fast for anyone other than a husband and wife twosome to join us. One upside was back then The pro would send us off before the first tee time on weekends because he knew they didn’t have to worry about us slowing anybody down, and funny thing is he actually told us not to go too fast and do not catch up with the mowers on the back nine.

A little studious towards the end there, lol, but not unreasonable - I'd be able to get a few posts read on the forum or text my wife various nonsense while waiting, all good!

Honestly, it's fine, and I'd rather play with someone who has a meaningful and not unreasonable PSR than someone who just takes endless and pointless practice swings and suffers awful results more often than not. Of course, good company trumps a lot of stuff we all think might bug us and bad company magnifies that stuff, lol.

I don't take practice swings so once I get to my ball about 2 seconds. On the tee maybe 5. I play my best golf when I don't think of anything at all. I usually freak guys out a little that have never played with me before. They're still usually jabbering when I hit.

I used to stand over the ball for way too long and I’ve worked hard to shorten up the time over the ball. I used to probably take 10-20 seconds and I honestly had no idea I was slow over the ball until someone told me lol now I’m probably 5-10 seconds from the time my clubhead is behind the ball.

I’m trying to get my PSR like DJ because for me I commit better. Set club get comfortable one look to confirm aim and fire

I'd be drunk by the 3rd hole if I had to wait that long on one person to hit a shot. :)

My PSR before hitting driver:

1. Mentally replay every lesson from iteachgolf and rebuild swing.

2. Take 74 practice swings ingraining new motion while other people are hitting off (I like to play last).

3. Fidget over ball trying to remember swing keys.

4. Visualise shot.

5. Hit hideous double cross 70 yards into the woods.

6. Stripe provisional down the middle.

7. Find ball and punch out.

8. Hit good iron shot leaving a chance to save par.

9. Three jack.

Good times...

I don't mind practice swings as long as that person doesn't back off as a habit. There's always the guy who takes forever getting up to the ball, takes a few swings, then backs up and does it all over again. What was the point of the first iteration? Or the really weird pointless practice swings. Doesn't help them play better. Just helps others play worse.

If I am playing for big bucks I think its okay for everyone to take as long as they want. I really dont mind if the person I am playing against takes their time. As long as it less than 1 min.

Note to self: Never play "Lamb" for big bucks. Anyone who says they are an "18" and plays for "big bucks," ain't no 18.... ;-)

My swing is almost always the same with every club. One waggle with one hand, two with both hands on club, then swing. Probably takes 5-6 seconds

Edit just watched my swing videos. Yes about 6 seconds

You had 3 waggles Sir...the funky one with your right hand and then 2 waggles with both hands. Timed it out at 8.5 seconds. You have the opportunity here based on 36 swings per round to pick up the pace of play by approximately 1.5 minutes here by dropping 1 waggle.

You're welcome.
