Cause of broken adapter? Pics inside.

I HAVE seen small rubber/plastic sleeves (1/16" max) at the top of SOME Cobra adapters, but not all of them. Never seen one the size of that thing in the OP's pic. They always come out when the shaft is pulled and I have reused the adapters without them. This could be something someone did to replace the original, but the obvious problem is the bond did not take. Also, Cobra has not made the My-Fly 8 in .350 ever.

I guess I should qualify my statement. There often are exceptions with equipment as it evolves over different years.

 

I have pulled two factory Cobra LTD adapters from the original older shafts from 2-3 years ago and not seen any internal plastic sleeves.

 

Cobra may well have altered the design at some point in the last year or two and then the Chinese knock off factory copied them poorly. I Don’t know about that. I just know my older ones were entirely aluminum.

 

I know After many years of messing with equipment its usually best to not express things as “always” or “never”.

^ from all I could tell when I had these adapters, it was entirely AL inside the bore. That little ring under the adapter looks like a sleeve... I just didn't expect the epoxy to look so perfectly uniform when it broke.

Also, looking at the adapter on the HB... when I looked reaaallly close... it almost looks like there is some kind of collar. Maybe it's just me but if you look really close there looks to be a line or something, almost like an AL sleeve was plugged into a plastic adapter body, if that makes sense. Look at the left hand side on the adapter where it's lighter. Is it just me?

The adapter on the yellow shaft is NOT an OEM from Cobra. Did you buy the FlyZ and shaft new from Cobra or a store?

 

I have purchased several clubs directly from Cobra and every single one has the concave adapter like the first picture. I have also purchased several adapters from eBay (I'm a shaft ho') and they look like the second picture.

 

There is no sleeve. It's just epoxy you are seeing at the top of the sleeve. As I mentioned earlier, the adapters are somewhat oversized at the top. The effect is similar to a coned hosel on a traditional club.

Ah ok so I got it flip flopped. Then it's the 3w I need to be careful of. And that adapter came from a store. Had it laying around somewhere... The two tips for the drivers I got a few weeks ago off eBay.

 

When I go get my lofts done in a few weeks, Ill have the shop pull that tip iff and I'll buy another tip off eBay and install again, making sure to rough up the inside with 80 grit and to roll the adapter around a few times on the shaft once I have the glue in.

It’s a bad adapter.

 

There is no “sleeve” inside a cobra adapter. At first glance I thought you used a ferrule for the installation. If that’s not a ferrule above the adapter body you definitely have a crap adapter.

 

The cobra adapters are solid aluminum all the way to the top. There is no separate piece to “slip” like that.

 

Heat it, pull it, throw it away and get a real one.

 

Yeah it looks like a fake Chinese adapter. I could be wrong, but I don't think any real Cobra adapters go down to 7*.

 

The real F8+ only goes down to 8*

My Bio Cell Pro bottoms out at 7*.

A few things. I also did not think cobra adapters came in .350 until I received the Diamond Golf catalog (sorry Brits that's the correct spelling?) with all of their shaft, grip, and tool/supply offerings. Pg. 104 cobra myfly is available in .335 and .350, both 9-12* loft markings-

 

 

 

I doubt OP's is .350, loft markings are different, in addition catalog pic has silver ring on ferrule.

 

Also, the aftermarket myfly adapter, in addition to being flat (vs. concave) on the end that accepts the screw, is also shorter than the OEM version-
