Bookers is another good bottle but price has soar on that one as well. It was a great bottle at 40 but now it’s in the 80 dollar range.

My wife surprised me with an early Christmas gift.

 

Got into a lottery at a local place and bought these. Super excited. I haven’t seen any Wellers in a store around here for close to 12-months.

I appreciate everyone's comments here. I've drank single malt scotch for several years and only recently started down the bourbon trail after not having any for about 25 years since some bad experiences while at the University of Tennessee :)

 

I've had and liked, but not been able to find for purchase, Blanton's, Eagle Rare and Buffalo Trace, as well as Pappy 15. Other's I've liked and bought are Weller's Special Reserve and Antique 107, Booker's (after finishing an old bottle my dad bought for me 20 years ago), Whistlepig Rye 10 year, IW Harper, and a few others that aren't coming to mind.

 

I've also had Basil Hayden and Four Roses Single Barrel that I didn't care for, though that was NYE and after several bottles of wine and champagne.

 

A good book that helped me understand the history and making of bourbon is Bourbon Straight: The Uncut and Unfiltered Story of American Whiskey.

 

I also found out about tasting using the "Kentucky Chew", which I've found to be enlightening. (Not dissimilar to tasting wine, which I've also collected for several years).

 

I think a trip to KY or WVa may be in order to try to scout out bottles that are in short supply or not distributed in Ohio.

Had another drop off of 8 ER bottles for me today.

 

The 1792 full proof is a good bottle for 45 bucks if you can find it. I saw a couple shady stores pushing it for 79.99 which isn’t the regular price.

had the 1792 full proof some time ago but much prefer the small batch over it. I believe it's roughly $35ish around here.

Same. I just cracked a 1792 FP SP and I’m not a fan at all. Virtually no oak qualities, tastes like koolaid.

Ended up with a nice couple of Willett finds over the weekend

i'm sure its within the thread....but how is everyone drinking their bourbon. straight w few drops water, on ice, chilled stone, ice ball, etc....

 

just curious. i typically had used an ice ball in past but find that if i just want to sip it becomes a little too watered down. i find couple small drops of ice water to be the best lately

Just picked up EH Taylor single barrel and it's terrific. Up there with Weller 12 as my faves.

you may like the EHT small batch also which is cheaper. I prefer it over the single barrel.

I just picked up a bottle of Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit. Anybody ever try it? First time I have ever seen it so I just bought it on spec. The reviews were pretty decent. They compare it to EH Taylor, which is one of my favorites....if I can ever find it.

 

And I agree with the post above. I think I prefer the small batch EH over the single barrel.

I prefer mine neat or with 1-2 small cubes of ice (just enough to chill it and knock a little of the bite off of it if it’s not the smoothest bourbon).

I prefer mine neat or with 1-2 small cubes of ice (just enough to chill it and knock a little of the bite off of it if it's not the smoothest bourbon).

 

I usually go with the ice ball. If I don't want it to water-down at all I just pour a smaller amount so I finish it quicker.

I've been enjoying Forrester's 1920 Prohibition. I was finally able to source some Willett Rye 4 yr. 114 proof and a 1.75 ltr. of Eagle Rare. The Willett is very interesting - tasting it neat after a 15-20 rest in the glass.

 

I generally like a few small ice cubes to take the alcohol down and give it a little chill. I'm not opposed to an ice ball and larger pour in a double old fashioned glass.

I've had 4 different bottles of the Northern Harvest Rye. 1 tasted so different (wasn't good at all). 1 was close but not quite like the other 2. Researched and found out lots of variances in the batches.

 

I hope you got a good batch.
