IN HAND PICS: Justin Rose's Custom Axis1 Prototype Putter

Recommended Posts

I can't wait to see his full WITB. What's that driver shaft?

I read in another thread on here (can't remember which one) that it's a Honma Vizard shaft. Not sure which model.

Bananas. Changing heads is one thing, but why not keep playing the same shaft.

Vokey 60! Very cool

Lol, suck it Hi-Toe!

I’m kind of impressed by Axis 1. They’ve been out there a while now, getting verbally abused (at least on the Internet) anytime anyone sees them, but they’re sticking with it. This could potentially be huge for them!

Their technology is legit. I can see why Rose wants to bag it. The balance is unique and once you get used to it you can't find that balance anywhere else.

its a stock vizard shaft from honma, they make great golf shafts, didnt know they were good enough to kick the tensei out the bag!

At least Axis1 is doing original-style sticks, unlike 95% of other putter makers.

It's a sweet looking putter (and I know it's a rip-off of a #7).

Either that or the fact that it is sounding like they gave him a portion of the company to bag it. From what I've heard it sounds a lot like the old Ryan Moore / Scratch deal.

The Rose prototype is the first Axis 1 putter that I have seen that I haven't immediately recoiled from. That's saying something.

I also think that they are avoiding copyright infringement on the Odyssey #7 by shortening the tynes and rounding all of the edges - similar but less so than the TM Ardmore. The #7 is so angular and distinct, that I think just softening the contours is enough to argue that it is a different design.

I would encourage any of you to do some research on Axis a bit before you start trashing them...I have checked out their stuff in detail and to be honest, I don't care what I'm putting with if the ball goes in the damn hole!!!

That being said, I think that Rose was under a full bag contract with TMade and one of the reasons he wanted out was bc he specifically had interest in trying the Axis putters. As stated, he even for one tourney said to hell with it and gamed one. At the end of the day, he feels it gives him an edge and that is all that matters.

Hats off to team Axis and if this goes well with him...the sky could be the limit.

My question about axis is, how does this company stay in business. Ive only ever seen some tour players trying them out. Ive never seen them in retail stores, never seen a single one out in the wild (i teach golf, been in the industry for about 10 years), and i dont recall seeing any in wrx member witb

In fairness, is anyone going to publicly admit they actually play one?

I'm sure people had the same reaction when they saw a plumbers neck putter for the first time when everyone else was using 8808 style blade putters.

There is only one rule in putting.... put the ball in the hole.

FWIW they fail to mention that Edel putters are also torque balanced. I love my E3, feels like it swings itself sometimes.

If you sort through the putter forum, you will find that there are a few/couple WRXers who have played or are currently playing Axis 1 putters.

The putter looks exactly like an Odessey from the top. I would love to get my hands on those irons.

You’re dead on w your assessment. I know the founder/developer of Axis1 and he told me that JR was under tremendous pressure to game a full TM bag. Takes some big stones to jettison the deal in the desire to have more control over what putter you use. I really hope Rose performs well w this new proto model and things take off for Axis1 as they have been at it for quite some time and the founder is a great guy.

Be interesting to see how he plays with it. Personally hate the look of it and could never game it myself but different strokes for different folks.

You are correct about the Edel putters being torque balanced...from what I have found and researched about Axis I know they have been around way before Edel and their focus is on the center of the putter face (the striking spot) being inline with the axis of the shaft...if that makes sense. Major science behind it and they I believe own the patent and are the only ones who can claim that.

My point is, don't knock it until you putt with it and give it a try. I think you will be surprised...

while the overall shape of the fangs of the Axis is very similar to the Odyssey #7, there are lot of other differences. The top line of the putter is narrower with more rounded edges, the #7 is much thicker & more angular. The fangs are bolted to the back of an otherwise blade like head. The hosel obiviously! The TM Ardmore is more like the #7 than this Axis is.
