Bacherlor Party Rocherster NY

Recommended Posts

I have my bachelor party planned for May 2019.

Looking for a resort that has an all in cost for stay and golf.

12 guys. we like to have a good time and are all low handicaps (10 or better)

Would love a resort with a couple courses that are difficult.

Any suggestions?

From a happy Canadian.

Can you just relocate the whole thing 90 minutes East to Verona NY and do Turning Stone?

We are coming from the Toronto area so we are trying to keep the drive as short as possible. Would we be better to go the other way towards Michigan?

Damn straight you would!

I grew up in Western New York and have lived in Michigan the last 10 years. The publicly available top end golf in Michigan is leaps and bounds better than NY. That being said, most of the good resort golf is in the North/Northwest side of the lower peninsula.

If I were you, I would look at Forest Dunes in Roscommon, MI. Two great courses, but the Loop is reversible and essentially gives you three courses to play. Downside is that there isnt much around Roscommon if you are looking for things to do outside of golf. Perfect buddies trip destination. Other option would be Traverse City, the Grand Traverse Resort has three courses, with the Bear being the best/hardest IMO. You are also only about sixty minutes from Arcadia Bluffs, which if you get that far northwest in the state and dont play, should be punishable by jail time.

Happy to help more on the Michigan front of you need it.

Suck it up and drive farther. You need warm weather guaranteed, grab cheap flights to Myrtle Beach via Spirit Air out of Niagara Falls NY

Outside of Ravenwood(which isn't a resort), I'm not sure there are public courses worth making a drive to Rochester for. That doesn't mean there aren't pretty good courses, but if you drove all the way there for them, you would end up a bit disappointed. Private golf is a whole other matter, but then you aren't getting a bachelor party on any of them.

I live in Rochester, and have played every public and private course in the area.

My first suggestion would be head two hours east and stay at Turning Stone. I LOVE Turning Stone. Three great 18-hole courses, and another 9 hole course. Gambling, golf, accommodations all in one spot. I try to go at least once a summer with some buddies of mine.

If you're dead set on Rochester, then I would suggest playing Greystone (https://www.greystonelinks.com/). It's my favorite public course in the area.

Bristol Harbour is also really nice, and you can actually stay at their lodge right there (https://www.bristolharbour.com/golf/). The front 9 is decent, but the back 9 is gorgeous.

Ravenwood is overrated in my opinion. If your group is a bunch of hackers, then it's probably a good choice since it's wide open. You can spray your ball all over the place there and it won't matter much. It's a nice course with wide fairways, and not a lot of trees, but it's just kinda "meh" in my opinion.

Someone earlier mentioned Oak Hill, which is a great course, but you'll have to find a connection to get you in since it's private. I live less than 10 minutes from there, and I've only managed to play it a handful of times over the past 25 years.

See, and I would say Greystone is is horrible. Different strokes.... but I am partial to courses that you can walk.

I can definitely understand that if you prefer to walk. Greystone is a pain to walk. Of the couple hundred times I've played it, I think I walked it twice. Hole 7 has such an incline that even power carts are a little slow going up it.

My guess is since this is a bachelor outing, carts are definitely in the equation though.

Turning Stone. No question. You have all of the elements required for a great BP; including 3 excellent golf courses.

If you have to come to Rochesterfor family; frietc then Bristol Harbor you can stay and play ... like another poster said, ok front side beautiful backside. Turning Stone is a great option also. The best golf here, like most places, is the private clubs. One poster mentioned Oak Hill.. NO SHOT... besides it being oak hill the PGA Senior Championship is there in May
